Not Exactly a Tidal Wave of Support

How bad is the proposal in the state Legislature to put limits on the initiative process that that we discussed last week?

Joel Connelly finds much not to like about the measure, in his own way of course.

When Sound Politics, assorted editorial boards, and Joel Connelly agree about the ultimate poor quality of a bill there just might be something to the idea that it isn't very good.

1. I wrote to my three representatives last week. I am happy to say, Al O'Brien and Rosmary McAuliffe have both responded that they do not support HB 2601.

2. The Connelly piece was badly disconnected and barely readable. The P-I should retire him early to save some money that they will need to fight the continuing decline in circulation.

3. What I don't understand is the schizophrenia of the WA state voters. Why vote in socialist Democrats to the legislature, then pass initiatives that go against the legislature the just voted in? Hardly makes any sense to me. It can only make sense for people like me that vote GOP and vote for conservative initiatives.

They vote for the candidate with the (D) next to their name. For whatever reason, the voters don't connect the actions of their legislature to the results of the election. It's part of the liberal condition.

5. Perhaps it's as simple as:

"My" representatives are all decent folks who would never vote for stupid things.

The biggest problem with our republic is that I can't vote out "that other guy's" representatives for voting for all the stupid stuff.....

6. Go ahead and pass it, and get the Governor to sign it.

Maybe THAT would wake people up.

7. FreedomLover....it's all about money. "My" legislator brings home x amount of dollars. What they don't tell you is that "My" legislator also voted to spend y amount of dollars in order to get the x amount of dollars in the home district.

This spiral only leads to massive spending where every legislator gets x dollars to bring home. But then the people see the total bill and say, "wait a minute, I'm being taxed too much" and vote to reign in spending.

It's the liberal mindset that all the money brought home is good, but all the money to send away is bad...not realizing their tied to each other.

8. Since stefan disabled comments to his post- I'm going post here.

Yes- obama's messages are total sesame street platitudes---and the "dancing with the stars and american idol demograhic is eating it up.

I stop short of calling the voters dumb- everyone is entitled to a vote- no matter how uninformed they choose to be about issues.

9. I e-mailed my representitve about this bill. He's a "D". Big surprise. He never responded. I wish we could vote this turkey out, but this being Washington I think I am stuck with guy for years to come.

10. drw:

I've learned that 99% of liberals can't reason their way out of a paper bag. They're literally dumb as rocks.

11. RJK:

Blame your "dumb as rocks" liberal neighbors that out-number you 6:4. Of course them being "dumb as rocks", you can't possibly show them the error of their ways. Makes me wonder just how long WA state has before it all implodes like Michigan.

12. Let's remember--
Joel Connelly has 4 people registered to vote from his 700 sq. ft. Island County vacation shack.
His Gardner, himself and a couple that didn't even live in Washington!
Are they still registered at Connelly's Stefan??

Joel is hardly one to comment on what is fair & honest.

13. Perhaps it is not surprising that Geoff Simpson is a co-sponsor of Washington House Bill 2601.
