1. The "Unemployment Benefits" for a union self-imposed walk-out is an absolute outrage. Did this piece of self-centered, "I want to walk off and suffer no financial consequences" junk pass??

Posted by: Misty on February 14, 2008 12:38 PM
2. ..come to think of it, did ANY of these pass? (with this legislature, anything is possible)

3. The stupid bill of the year is clearly the transit bill that voters thankfully rejected. Misty's example is also a good one.

Hey, why isn't Stefan taking comments to his posts?

4. Darn, my nomination didn't make the list.

Putting Serial Numbers on BULLETS has GOT to be the stupidest suggestion I've heard all year.

5. I'm curious, but what exactly is the problem with HB 2945? "Creates a cause of action for the wrongful injury or death of a companion animal." Trivial, maybe, but it doesn't seem particularly rampant for abuse. Someone with better law knowledge might want to help me out on this one.

6. Benjamin: dunno, I had the same thought. My only concern is whether it is NECESSARY, because why would this need a special law?

7. I voted for the unemployment benefits for striking workers. That is just unbelievable.

I agree with #3 on the Prop 1 though. Also not on the list was the $62 BILLION (over just 7 years) state healthcare giveaway bill.

8. Bananaland

Don't know why he isn't,(Stefan) but a few people here are freaking out about it.

9. So much from which to choose.

I chose the last one, that would turn neighbor against neighbor based on what they beleived to be environmental abuse.

Like the case in Sunnyvale - an environmentalist planted evergreen trees ten years ago. His environmentalist neighbor is suing him because his trees are blocking the sun from the neighbor's solar panels. The environmentalist neighbor wants the trees topped to 15 feet or totally cut down.

This law would create that havoc up here.

12. Gee that's strange. I just cast my vote and it tells me that there are only 5 votes cast so far.

13. There are so many we should just vote for stupid legislature of the year. They are driving you off the road to your work, daycare, living and shopping.

They are driving you out of your homes.

They are spending like drunken sailors.

14. How about voting for delegates to choose the stupid bill of the year.

Posted by: Publicbulldog on February 14, 2008 10:46 PM
15. You'd have to pay them like the 890K Obama and Clinton are shoving into the delegates pockets. Talk about buying an election

You beat me to it! Hopefully the worthless Democrat that propsed this gets thrown of a pier for this ridiculously stupid and un-needed idea. WTF are we paying these f*&!in people for?!

17. 5. I'm curious, but what exactly is the problem with HB 2945? "Creates a cause of action for the wrongful injury or death of a companion animal." Trivial, maybe, but it doesn't seem particularly rampant for abuse. Someone with better law knowledge might want to help me out on this one.

6. [#5] dunno, I had the same thought. My only concern is whether it is NECESSARY, because why would this need a special law?

This is the need for the additional statute:

Right now, pets are considered just property, like a garden gnome or a windowpane, and any cause of action would be limited to damages equalling the replacement cost of the "property".

The bill under consideration would allow for additional damages for pain and suffering both of the pet animal and of their family in certain circumstances.

I don't see this as stupid at all. While an animal's life should not merit the same kind of damages as a human being's (a human is worth on average about 2 million in wrongful death cases curently), it still seems that if the neighborhood unemployed drunken slugabout comes over and beats your new puppy to a bloody, gruesome death in your driveway in front of your five year old (who will now likely have nightmares for a good decade), that being able to recover a few thousand dollars (or slapping a lien on everything he owns) for the pain and suffering the puppy and your child endured should not be out of the realm of reasonable claims.

This bill elevates pets to somewhere above regular inanimate property, which pets ARE, while still not equating animal life with human life.

It's a fair bill, and I'm surprised at EFF for including it in the list of otherwise silly bills.
