I'd Like No Sense of Humor for $400, Alex

Dan Catchpole, intern reporter and contributor to the P-I's Strange Bedfellows Blog evidently thinks cracking jokes with a Biblical reference isn't funny.

Um, if a former Southern Baptist minister - typically considered one of the most fundamentalist denominations in the country - isn't allowed to get off a good line using the Good Book then who is?

1. If I may, I think it's part of modern liberal orthodoxy to believe that Christians have no sense of humor. So discovering that Huckabee has a sense of humor and can even use his own religion to make a light-hearted point makes their Christian hate meters crash.

They want everyone to believe Christians such as Huckabee and Bush are Spanish Inquisition types that are on a mission from God to impose a Christian theocracy on the country and re-introduce the dunking stool in order to root out non-believers.

Liberalism is a sinkhole into which really unhappy, pessimistic, unpleasant people fall.

2. What is funny is that Catchpole then wasted time by getting Fuiten on the horn in order to get a local quote on whether the joke was funny or not. A process that either takes a couple minutes or hours depending if you have to slug your way through the flacks and PR people.

3. Its combo of innate anti religious bias by left, but then also stupidity of that guy commenting...Huckabee was really sort of making fun of his perception, his religious persona....his joke was actually tailored to the left.

In same way, i recall at a debate, he was questioned about some religious angle and he wondered why he's the only one who gets the religious questions...plays right to this quip, where he's just playing off his media persona (that is, they had to categorize him as the right wing Baptist guy)

4. It's refreshing to see a candidate with an actual sense of humor.
Of course, if McCain-Feingold passes, humor will also be outlawed. At least for religious conservatives.

5. He is just offended because left is, even in a joke, labeled unwise. Like most liberals, it is simply unacceptable to be called out on their mindless following of the liberalism.

6. Eric, this reminds me of when Schram said 9/11 should not be the subject of humor. He said to me in e-mail, what are you going to make jokes about next, the Holocaust? So I sent him a link to my song "George Bush is Hitler." :-)
