Happy New Year!

As the sun sets over Seattle.

Sunset over Seattle, October 2007

Cross posted at Jim Miller on Politics.

(The picture was taken October 28th.  But Lake Washington will look about the same in an hour or so.)

2. I'm looking forward to a new governor who is actually "green" and doesn't take a chauffeur driven, state-provided car the 75 yards to work each morning...

3. I'm looking for a governor who represents the PEOPLE's interests over the Government's Interests!

6. Ah, the sun setting on the American Empire...

Or, since we have over 700 bases in about 130 of the world's 190 nations, perhaps the sun never sets on the American Empire...

Pax Americana. Courtesy of the US taxpayer and liberal/Wilsonian foreign policy.

7. Jim,

Beautiful photo. Where was it taken? Along Lake Washington Blvd. somewhere?

Thought I'd drop in to wish everyone a last minute Happy New Year! :)

8. Hey, I didn't know that Sound Transit was in charge of the Space Needle fireworks!?!? Or was that the WA DOT?

Happy New Year!

9. The picture was taken from Marina Park in Kirkland. (You can see a bit of the public dock on the left. The gazebo is just to the right of the picture.)

Interesting what commenters see in the picture. For the record, I picked a sunset picture because that's a good metaphor for the end of a year. I picked this sunset picture because it included the silhouette of the man and toddler on the right and, of course, because the two ducks in the foreground were in almost exactly the right place. But feel free to see whatever you want to in the picture.

(Photographic details: I took it with a Panasonic KZ8, probably using the default "P" mode. The original is 3072x2304 pixels. I cropped it a little and reduced it to 600 pixels wide, including the border.

The picture might have looked little fancier if I had used the sunset scene mode, which increases the saturation, among other things. A little fancier, but a little less true to life.)

OK, sorry to interrupt. I'm not trying to blog-jack this thread or anything - just thought y'all would like to know.

11. Beautiful picture, Jim. A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all, regardless of political affiliation.

And, although I hate to ruin these perfectly benign posts by making them all political, Bruce, I usually agree with about 80% of what you have to say and that even what I disagree with what you have to say I still respect it because you care about the facts. I do have to call BS on your comment though. The United States Military has permanent military installations in only 17 countries outside the US (ones you could fairly call part of the "American Empire") and only has another personnel attached to foreign bases in another 25 countries bringing the total to at most 43. Where are you getting 130? (and the fact that we station Marines at our embassies doesn't count).

12. Despite the overwhelming urge to hijack this New Years post at #6 by our relentless Ron Paul touting friend Bruce Guthrie, Happy New Year to all.

14. Happy News Year to all.

A special thanks to the Sound Politics bloggers who provide so much of their time commenting on important Puget Sound and WA issues that otherwise see the light of day in the biased MSM.

New Year's Resolution: Take back the Governor's office in 2008!
