Why Thank You, Sir

A free-spirited soul, who I can speculate without fear of contradiction is not a reader of Sound Politics, was handing out the following flier downtown yesterday; and I quote:

Your human worth is NOT rated by:
How much money you make
The car you drive
Your job
The clothes you ware
Your bra size
Your waist size
The size of your penis
Your gender
Your ethnicity
Your sexuality
Or your age
You are beautiful just as you are
I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH

Thanks for clearing all that up.

1.
Oh, great. Now I'll have to be nice and do good things for people to raise my human worth. Just when I thought I had it all going for me. Thanks a lot, "Free Spirited Soul", you just made my day -- MISERABLE.

2. Sorry to hear that John. Its a shame that someone else's joy at life does that to you.

3. I prefer a message I found posted in Ballard:

You're a beautiful soul
But that's an unforgivably ugly shirt

4. In some Seattle neighborhoods, a person is judged by the size of his penis AND his bra size.

5. Your "human worth" is also not determined by self-righteous sactimony or moral exhibitionism. Or by what you hate. Or by how much you want to force others to conform to your standards (or lack thereof).

The clothes you ware

But it is determined by your ability to spell correctly.

6. I guess no one should wonder why I never find the need to go to Seattle.

7. Well, the "free-spirited soul" MUST be pro-life right? After all, the free-spirited soul claims "human worth" is not rated by "... your age".

8. That's nice.

I agree with everything he says, I just can't figure out exactly why it matters.

True family or friendship requires a whole lot more then merely saying you care, or even caring. It requires trust, honesty and sacrifice. He doesn't seem to be sharing any of those things with me.

9. Granted, beyond a certain threshold what you're paying for clothes and your car is essentially good marketing suckering you into throwing your money away instead of putting it somewhere that will get you a good return.

10. Madison Avenue really has no use for this guy's message, do they?

11. ya, ya, ya, We should all join Sims commune, wear a toga, don't shave, use one square of TP, and walk trails all day.

This guys brain isn't worth much, so I suggest he donate it to the King County coroner. LMAO.

12. I say clone him. And salute him.

Much nicer stuff than I usually get from strangers downtown.

13. This reminds me of the classic bumpersticker...
"Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks your an A-hole."

14. 11: Please don't donate Sim's brain to anyone, it would be a sad thing to have that one continue on in this city.

16. Eric,

Did you think this a controversial flier? Imagine that, some nut on the street telling everyone he loves them just the way they are. There was this one other nut that said similar things. I wonder what you'd tell the other nut if he handed you a flier.

17. pbj -

Well, first, I'd be pleased to know that Jesus isn't going to judge me by the size of my penis.

But on a more serious note, since you asked, there's just something comical about the flier being handed out just for fun. Perhaps you had to see the fellow to truly get my point...beyond the fact that passing out a random flier like that really serves no point.

But no, I don't think it's controversial. I totally agree with the contents actually.

18. "I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH, GOD BLESS YOU"

"I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH, MERRY CHRISTMAS"

That would have caused much controversy and consternation!

19. I don't know why you assume this is not a reader.

Sounds like good common sense conservative values to me.

20. I'd say it serves a purpose, Eric. Who knows how many people he handed that flyer to who were feeling a little down that day. Maybe they were working in the food service industry and some self important exec had yelled at them and told them how worthless they were. Maybe they were an old man who had just been forced to retire because he was too old. Maybe it was a young girl who, seeing all the images of what is beautiful in department store windows was feeling worthless herself. I applaud this guy and feel grateful, as you should, that I'm not someone who has issues with my job, car, age, etc. that I "need" a pick me up in the form of his flyer but who knows how quickly that may change? As pbj said above, sounds just like something Jesus would say.

21. The only thing that I would disagree with is the assumption that "You are beautiful just as you are". It's a good assumption to start with till proved otherwise but it's not always true. Charles Manson and Jim Jones come immediately to mind.

22. Did the guy handing out the fliers look like this?
