Snow Day

We have a foot of snow where I live in North Bend and it's still dropping. Yes I'm bragging and rubbing it in. If there was a good time for an unexpected dump of the white stuff on the Puget Sound region, this weekend was it.

The wolfhounds are loving it, the level is up to their bellies. Tyr, the cat, not so much. The little guy was having the darnedest time trying to keep all four paws in the air and dry all at once.

Best of all, this December vintage has the perfect weight-to-moisture density to make the best snowmen, snow forts, snow machine-gun nests... or whatever lawn art strikes your fancy. Just don't offend the neighbors with your snow political statements.

Enjoy the weather. For those who know how to drive in it - raise of hands - you gotta dig the hopefully empty roadways. Take lots of family pictures.

Oh... and go Hawks!!!

1. I don't believe it to be politically correct in referring to snow as 'white stuff'. :) Enjoy!

2. Starting to melt now - the rain has started.

I blame GW Bush.

3. Lots of nice powder here in South Everett. Our back yard is a winter wonderland. DOT traffic cams show I-405 clear south of the Swamp Creek Interchange. Whee!!

4. Don,
How did the cat get out in the snow? Normally, they get to the edge of the snow and stop. What did you do?

One, we have a kitty leash that he's put on during the summer time. Today we put him on the leash and just plunked him down in the snow. As you said, he tried to skirt the powder, along the house but we just picked him up and set him down again. That way we could get humorous pictures.

Tyr got revenge by taking a chunk out of me afterwards. Never name your cat after the Norse god of war and justice...

6. No snow but lots of rain in Federal Way

7. Oh oh Don, re #5, Duffman's gonna call the ASPCA on you for torturing cats.

But seriously, we have about four inches on the lawn here in Sammamish. It's great watching my 100-pound Alaskan Malamute (for those who don't know--looks like a Husky but only bigger) just calmly laying on the snow with her head up looking around, as if to say "well this is pleasant, not cold in the least; doesn't everybody lay down and relax in the snow??"
It's wonderful to observe an animal so made for these kinds of weather conditions. (sorry, Tyr!)

8. I LOVE SNOW!!!! :)

I grew up in the Chicago area, where the snow "stuck" from the end of November through mid-March. You never saw grass in between.

Here, if you don't make your snowmen (I guess the PC would be "snow-people") while it is still snowing, you've missed the window.

It's all runny and melting here in Wallingford. The only snow left is on the windshields.

sigh.

9. Yet another sign of global raining.

10. C'mon, guys, I know this is a political site, but do we really have to ruin the snow day vibes with rehashed global warming jokes? Where's your childlike sense of wonder?

The snow started when I was looking out to W. Seattle and downtown from the 12th Avenue viewpoint on Beacon Hill. After all of it had fallen, I got to take the 594 bus south and see the snow-covered pines on all of the hills around the city. This is really a damn beautiful part of the country.

...For those of us who don't drive.

11. My kitty, Tikvah, definitely thought it was a nonevent. Usually she'll watch it come down for awhile, but not yesterday. She pretty much thought the day was made for napping. I, on the other hand, was out and about for a couple of hours and found driving, at least between Northgate and 164th on I-5 and 99, was a little slow (55-60 on I-5) but otherwise fine. I suppose it helped that I knew it wasn't freezing and was pretty relaxed about getting my chores done! All in all not a bad way to ease into winter driving. And of course, as others have mentioned, absolutely beautiful!

12. Boy, are my girls P.O.'d. They were hoping for a snow day or two. Right now the snow here in S. Everett is melting pretty fast. Enjoy your school day tomorrow, kids. ;-)

13. It worked out great for us. We were trimming the tree, listening to Christmas music, etc. and then it started snowing. The kids went wild. It's a great time of year. And Crystal opened Saturday. Yes!

14. When all was said and done, I think we managed about 4 inches in Redmond where I live. Some people in a neighboring apartment built a snowman on Saturday night, but it was pretty much a small pile of snow on the ground by this afternoon. The higher temperatures brought in by the current system (mid to upper Forties) melted whatever the rain didn't get pretty quickly.

15. 5" in Duvall. Yesterday morning, woke up @ 6:30 to the sound of things shutting off. Apparently, the snow had changed to freezing rain. Shorted out a power line. Spent about 45 minutes mucking around with the generator - have a greenhouse filled with plants that we've had for a few years... Finally got it running and was able to keep the greenhouse warm, while keeping the food cool.

This morning, all the snow was gone. Current temperature is around 58 degrees. Almost about to open the windows and hook up the fan... ;-)
