Animal lovers should vote for I-25

"Report: County animal shelters "deplorable""

The animal shelters run by King County in Bellevue and Kent are "deplorable," with dogs and cats suffering from high rates of disease and inadequate housing, exercise and social contact, according to a report today from a citizen advisory committee.
Responsible is Sherril Huff, best known as Elections Director, but whose purview also includes Animal Control (along with "Marriage and For-Hire Driver Licensing", etc.)

It's senseless to lump important but distinct functions like Elections and Animal Control under the same administrator. That's why I-25 would create a stand-alone Elections Department, separate from R.ALS, so that dogs and voters both get the attention from county government they both deserve.

Animal lovers should blame Bob Ferguson and the Council Democrats for delaying I-25 and the urgently needed reforms it would bring to both Elections and Animal Services. But do vote for the version of I-25 that's on November's ballot. Better late than never.

6. You know half of these dogs in the shelter are results of poverty. People in poverty cannot train, control, or provide a good standard of living for these animals especially the dogs and thats why they are here. My idea's for the king county animal control. Ban the sale and breeding of pit bull's (1/3 of the dogs at the shelter). If you are to own a pit bull you need an income of $40,000 plus and insurance to what damage your animal may cause. Rebuild one animal control facility at the Kent location disband the Bellevue facility. Then i can see conditions and care for the animals increasing.

Sounds like a good Idea, I mean it worked out well for me.

8. Hmmph, just gas them after 72 hours, you don't your dog up, its obvious you don't want it. No need to spend money on a "feel-good" agency. People in this area think dogs are people.

9. As a matter of interest, the job of elections in all other Washington Counties (county auditors) is combined with records and licensing. Only animal control is located elsewhere, usually with the sheriff's office, since it includes law enforcement. Try to palm that one off on your sheriff. It got included with licensing because of the licensing of the animals. Go figure.
