Seattle Times: "Survey: State still falling short in foster care services"

P-I: "Foster care survey 'good news' overall, says DSHS"

When in doubt, I always believe the government. And the P-I.

2.
I don't know about the others, but we go through agency and with our newest addition, a third agency. Those people are all over us meaning we have plenty of contact, which we like. The agencies seem to care more than the State.

I recently read an article about the pay of foster care parents. My mom grew up with foster kids in her home, had foster kids of her own and advised us of ours. With respect to pay, she remembered getting about $300 back in the 50s and early 60s for care. Today, the pay is about $400. However, child care is paid for if the provider accept the reduced payment the State allots.

No wonder there are issues. Well, enough for now. I hope the papers stay all over this issue. I see several articles and awards for these reporters if they give the big picture.

3. ..that is, hilarious that the papers can't agree on whether there's good news or bad news in this story. Don't want anyone to think I've made light of inadequate DSHS services to kids.

6. The P-I is disinclined to cast a bad light on the Locke/Gregoire administration.

7. When in doubt, I always believe the government. And the P-I.

And, by extension, the contumelious columnist Joel Connelly...

NOT!

9. As usual, Pee Eye reporter John Iwasaki doesn't ask the hard questions.

They are:
Who did the survey?
Who paid for the survey?
How did the data, which is supposedly non-disclosable get to the authors of the survey?

And last I heard, reimbursement for foster kids slides, due to age and "difficulty". I know a guy that has three foster kids, and that is his job, so it must pay at least in some cases.

The sad thing seems to be that they take the wrong kids, and leave the wrong kids. Ah, but for perfect knowledge.

And removing tongue from cheek, I would still take the Pee Eye over the Gub'mint, if I had to pick (Save for Joel)

The Geezer has spaketh.

11. The less the government does the better!

12. Again, evidence that the "For the Children" democratic party is talk not action.

The two agencies that are designed with children in mind - the school system and DSHS - are the two worst in the state. (And given the transportation department, that's saying something.)

If our Republican party in this state had two brain cells to rub together, they would demogogue this issue, but i just get the feeling they gave up a long time ago. So by extension they are just as guilty as the people in charge.

How sad.
