That Was Brave

I attend a pretty laid back church where the emphasis is on the spiritual, not the ritual. We pretty much try to avoid the modern, negative stereotype of a stuffy, mainline church at all costs. As such, sports apparel at Sunday service is not unheard of, with a couple fellows sporting Seahawk garb of some sort today.

Ah, but there was also a fellow boldly sporting an Oregon Ducks cap, an Oregon Ducks jersey, and Oregon Ducks Nike shoes. Unlike Seahawks blue these are not shades that blend into the crowd with much subtlety. Clearly, he's celebrating Oregon's beatdown of Michigan yesterday at the Big House. Yet wearing Ducks garb in what is largely Husky country in the greater Seattle area is a bold step. The University of Washington may have an even more bitter rivalry with Oregon these days than with WSU...though no doubt that's debatable.

Either way, it's a bit like wearing Steelers garb to Qwest Field. Of course being at church, the odds of a random cup of beer being dumped on one's head go down immeasurably, but you get my point. When the Oregon marching band played at halftime of a Seahawks game a couple years back they were booed. Lustily. And this was just the marching band!

This is not friendly territory for the Ducks.

Something fun to consider in what was a glorious first major weekend of football in the Puget Sound area. Oregon coming to town on October 20th might be kind of exciting too.

1. Underwear Sunday??? That's a first.

Well, Huskies won. Hawks won. A great weekend all around, I'd say. Go Dawgs; go Hawks!

4. Eric,

Who the hell do you think gives a flying rip? You wouldn't allow comments in the thread about Clintons giving away our military secrest to China during their last reign of terror, but hey, a thread on your church and sports wear is absolutely pertinent.

Hmm, let's see. The blog is called Sound POLITICS. There is a thread about Bill Clinton selling secrets to China. Fast forward to 2007 and Hillary and her Chicom Hsu money funneller. Nope, no nexus here. Totally disconnected, unrelated...move on folks, nothing to see here.

Christ, I can see now why this country is going down the tubes if your poor prioritization is any indication.

Do you realize that the Chinese now have AEGIS capable guided missile cruisers thanks to the last time the Clinton's were in the White House????

Count me disappointed in you Eric.

5. Well, pbj, the masthead says, "Sound Commentary on Current Events in Seattle, Puget Sound and Washington State." It's a slow news weekend and all work and no play makes jack...and the readers of Sound Politics...a dull boy. Besides, no one is making you click on the "Read the rest" link.

Also, a correction, you said "You wouldn't allow comments in the thread about Clintons giving away our military secrest to China during their last reign of terror." I don't recall saying anything about that in any thread I've posted, nor can I imagine myself doing so. I delete comments on a very rare basis, and really only from two selected individuals at that. You must have me confused with another contributor.

7. Eric,

Looking at the thread, it was Jim Miller. I was WRONG. I apologize.

The Clinton/Chinese connection is one of my hot buttons. It is like reliving a car wreck from the past.

Again, I apologize, you are an excellent tipper and your well mannered child is a pleasure to be around. I will not be working in the food service industry any longer...

11. "....a random cup of beer being dumped on ones head". Now that would really be something to see. How about a cup of coffee??

The Donald Ducks(they have abandoned the cartoon character as their mascot)do not even measure up to our beloved Huskies.

12. I personally was amazed by Jim turning comments off. Here was chance to allow SP readers to take cheap shots at the prior administration. What kind of site you guys running here? HA would have no trouble allowing those sorts of shots at Bush. This site getting a conscience or something?

13. It would be impossible to take cheap shot at the previous administration....When facts are presented...ie massive amount of chinese/asian monies flowing into the clinton coffers, the sale of missile technology to the communist chinese...more communist money flowing to Hilaries campaign.....it does make one wonder what else they (communist china) expect from their fellow marxist in hrc. But then, left wing/socialsts never ever worry about the truth. They use the Goebbels mantra...lie often enough and people will believe it..eventually. If we wish to remain a free and sovereign nation, socialist/communists must be defeated by any means necessary.

14. more communist money flowing to Hilaries campaign

I thought it was all going to Dennis Kucinich? Hsu is a communist, sure looked like a capitalist businessman to me.

They use the Goebbels mantra...lie often enough and people will believe it..eventually. If we wish to remain a free and sovereign nation, socialist/communists must be defeated by any means necessary

We are a free and sovereign nation and that's not going to change anytime soon no matter how much money China gives the Clinton's. A free and sovereign nation includes diversity among opinions (something China lacks). Apparently you are looking for some sort of Conservative haven where differences of opinion are shouted down, leftists are jailed, and we can declare war on whomever we determine is a pre-eminent threat.

Seriously that's the farthest thing from a free and sovereign nation I can think of. Freedom depends on natural discourse and the ability to legislate for different points of view (be it Left or Right).

If Clinton gets money from the Chinese, I would think Bush gets money from the Saudis (who's Govt. structure is not much better than the Chinese).

15. Interesting response. I hope that you know it is illegal to take money from foreign government to influence any elections. It is also illegal for any foreign government to give any political party. It should also be noted that socialists/communists want a world order with our country be subjugated to that entity, ie un style mandates, etc. While I don't wish to see political opponets jailed, I do wish to see traitors dealt with. You cannot have a Representative Republic government by communists/socialist. The two are totally divergeant poloitical philosophies and by their nature cannot work in a coexistant fashion. One is dictatorship while our Republic is freedom....I have no trouble helping those who desire communist/socialist rule relocate to countries that espouse that dictatorial style. We true American will prosper very nicely without these taritors.....and still allow plenty of political discourse of ideas. I would assume that you would like to see a criminal investigation of foreign money, such as mr. hsu, that corupts our electoral system...regardless of party affiliation. Dem or Rep....if laws are broke, prosecute, fine and jail the offenders. Let the offending countries that there will be consequenses..such as limiting trade, removal of/ cutting the size of their diplomatic presence, banning their student from our colleges/universities by limiting student visas to the non-hard sciences. These actions could get their attention that further interference in our political system will not be tolerated.

16. Go Ducks, and I am moving to Portland where people are civilized and appreciate the arts and we can ride the bus or train and all sing "we are the world", and have peace and love!

17. Mssrs. Cato and Rothlisberg:

Stop hijacking the frigging thread, you snorks.

Besides: where else should a Seahawk and a Duck go than to a place where they can receive God's much-needed mercy and cleansing?

And Washington has a football team? Who knew?

Gators kick ass.

PS: CHOMP.
