Reckless Plan Update

Jason "Zappini" Osgood continues to do terrific work exposing the astonishing senselessness of Sherril Huff and Ron Sims's "very, very good plan" reckless plan for mail-only voting in 2008.

After the County Council received strongly negative assessments of the Sims/Huff plan from both the Citizens Elections Oversight Committee [here] and from its outside experts [here and here], the Council directed King County Elections to shelve the plan to purchase brand new untested equipment and to run the 2008 election entirely by mail using existing infrastructure, which the Elections Office says it cannot do.

So the Elections Office is marching ahead with its universally panned plan anyway, Osgood reports at Washblog (read both):

1. Just par for the course in Ron Sims' "democracy". He blows our tax dollars to hire his best cronies for all the jobs, he blows our tax dollars "fix" all our processes, and he spits in the face of his own party's comrades on the King County council so he can decide how we should vote, and of course with the help of disgraced Dean Logan's mentor now in charge of Elections. Who can complain?

4. Um, isn't this illegal? I am no expert on King County, but ... um ... is the County Council directs Elections to not do it, then how can they do it?

Hm, looks like they in fact were NOT directed to not go ahead. The Council only said they "prefer" Elections doesn't go ahead.
