Dog Days of Summer Political Fix

If you join me in being bored with the slow pace of political news this summer, check out this site from an outfit based in Seattle. It allows you to self-select issues of import in the Presidential election, assess whether you agree or not with assorted statements by unidentified candidates on those issues, then ranks your score. As the site developers describe, it does take roughly 15-20 minutes if you take the time to do it seriously.

For what it's worth, I picked Health Care; Taxes, Spending, and Fiscal Policy; Trade and Globalization; and War on Terror and Homeland Security for my issues - a mix of personal interest and what I expect to be top tier issues in the campaign. Also for what it's worth, I agreed with Mitt Romney the most (11 times), Mike Huckabee & Fred Thompson tied for 2nd (9 times), and last among major Republican candidates was Rudy Giuliani (5 times) . My highest ranking Democrat was Barack Obama with 4 agreements. 0 for Hillary Clinton & John Edwards. Stunner.

Given the variables of which issues one selects to screen the topics it's tough to compare results with other survey takers. But it'll kill a few minutes of your day...or night.

2. Summer reading list (and bookmarks):

TechRepublican.com, a site about new media and web 2.0 tools available to the GOP.

Gopful.com, a small teaser project to the forthcoming, and much anticipated, econservative.org (coming in late summer, early fall '07).

And finally, the conservative answer to digg: Gophub.com.

Enjoy!
