Swing and a Miss

Behold, Seattle P-I editorial board weighs in on John McCain's sinking Presidential hopes.

Amazingly, their list of possible wounds to his candidacy includes mention of the Beach Boys-style "bomb Iran" diddy but omits immigration reform. They seem to think McCain is struggling because of Iraq.

That may well be true with the independents who McCain appealed to in 2000, but Iraq is mostly definitely not one of the issues where McCain has crossed swords with conservatives. Yet, the P-I says "the Republican base is starting to consider" another option.

"Starting to consider"? Where have they been the last several months...or years? Even McCain fans know there are robust segments of the Republican base who have long harbored deep antipathy towards him for years for reasons that have nothing to do with foreign affairs.

1. Something about Hollywood on that editorial board- they live in the Land of Illusion.

Like my brother-in-law on the 4th who matter of factly stated that the US was at war with everyone. There was no seems like; it was straight up. I was too shocked and incredulous to respond. I mean how do you talk to people like that? This editorial board is the same way.

I sure like McCain on Iraq, and if he were nominated, I could go with him for President. In fact, there aren't any Rs I wouldn't go with against the crop of weeds the Ds are putting out there.

Eric, I also read an article this a.m. about how all the frontrunners are spending more money than they are taking in.

2. For all the time you spend bitching about how much the PI sucks you sure do read/link to it a lot.

3. Just curious Cato... Would you estimate it's roughly equivalent to the time you spend reading and posting here? Or doesn't it quite measure up to that?

4. Hell, the P-I Editorial Board thinkls Darcy Burner is qualified. How out-of-touch-with reality can you get?

So did nearly 50% of the BDS-inflicted electorate in my district that voted for her - sad, very sad.

6. John McCain is struggling because he's John McCain.
Doesn't help that ever conservative talk show host in the nation doesn't like him either.

7. Swatter, the article I read the other day had Giuliani spending only $17M of his $32M raised in 6 months, and Romney spending only about 32 of his $44M in 6 months (most of his difference is what he loaned to his campaign). I'd like to see that article, did it have numbers for the Dems in it?

8. hmmm.....McCain/Feingold anybody.

He lost me forever there. As did the pres. for sign that POS.

9. The Pee-Eye like all ms news outlets fail to understand why McCain is sinking. They are still stuck on Iraq when if they'd check the facts the latest thing to sink McCain is immigration. Mccain is toast. Burnt toast. Set-off-the-smoke-alarm burnt.

10. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0707/4804.html

I thought I had already given a link, but here it is.

Confession here: I read the headline and didn't click on the article. There is not much substance there, but Politico is a left wing, but coherent, rag.

Does it matter? I like posting here, at least I listen to the other side rather then telling them to F**K OFF and 'go post somewhere else' every time I see something posted here I disagree with.

Democracy can not exist without differences in opinion.

12. I like your postings Cato and agree with them most of the time and 98% of the time, I respect your thinking.

13. My own personal views on McCain: I thought he was a viable candidate I might possibly support last year. I said to myself, Self, I disagree with him on campaign finance reform, but I love his spending record, his strong pro-life record, his view on judges, his ability to deal with Congress ... but if he blows it one more time on immigration it is all over, not just for me, but every other conservative who may consider supporting him.

He blew it one more time on immigration.

14. Don Ward: It does not help that he is pro war, pro big spending and anti free speech. More and more conservatives are beging to support true small government politicians such as Ron Paul. He now has more cash on hand than McCain!

15. Mr RCGuy:

I agree, McCain-Feingold was a total POS bill. What candidate(s) have your support?
