Fighting democracy with everything they've got

King County Executive Ron Sims is on KUOW Weekday today in the 10am hour. The web page lists other topics on the agenda, but the on-air announcements implied that the main topic is whether to elect the head of the county elections office.

Judging from the reaction of the King County Democrat chairwoman to the I-25 petition turn-in -- "we're going to fight it with everything we've got." -- I can't imagine Sims will be very supportive of a democratically elected elections director.

UPDATE: Sims didn't discuss I-25 until the very end, when answered a caller question for 52 seconds and then changed the subject [audio at 48:53]. (Part of Sims' answer was "All the major urban counties of our size in the United States have appointed professionals". But even that is not true.).

1. Democrats DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

Thus they are typically anti-initiative or referendum (unless, of course, it's a union-shilled issue... like the WEA foaming at the mouth to get rid of the super-majority. THEN it's OK....)

Thus, the fact that they intend to ignore that will as expressed in the primary.

The loss of the Soviet Union has not ended the political concepts of democratic centralism that helped spawn it... nor has it done much to modify the perspectives of the Soviet Unions followers and supporters.

Just ask Fidel Pelz.

Here's a guess... the STATE democrats will come out against this common-sense effort as well.

Gee.... one can only wonder why.

2.
The real question is: why do we need an Elections Director anyway?

It seems to be mainly because the whole state of Washington is a corrupt morass.

But then, now this office has fallen into it.

So now, we will need a Meta Elections Director.

And a Meta Meta Elections Director.

Who watches the watchers....?

3. When is it illegal for Sim to push the anti-initiative?

4. After the way the Democrats have been bungled the past elections, I would think they would keep quiet and let things play out a little before popping off like she did.

5. if the liberal/dem solutions to problems were so good, why would they fear the bright light of scrutiny and transparency? what are they afraid of if they have such good solutions? let the people speak & vote.

the proof is in the obfuscation. a confident/honest party or elected official would welcome scrutiny and challenge--no matter the results. bunch of chicken-shyte weenies. take your lumps.

6. Isn't that a virtual admission that there is election fraud going on?

Why else would *anyone* oppose more independent election staff?

7. I called in to ask Ron he sidestepped the question with a random answer. I did not get to talk since I was on my cell and the reception was terrible.

8. Democrats just hate it when the electorate goes off on a tear and actually wants--to vote.
They ran an end-run around the SCOTUS verdict against WEA and voting rights, They hate I-25 and in D.C they are trying to subvert the secret ballot in union elections.

Democrats- last of the Totalitarians!

9. King Sims and his band of council bandits have to go. A good start is to replace District 8
Dow Constantine, D with John Potter, R
Dow Constantine is the prime sponsor of the legislation. "Passenger-only waterborne transit
While the law that allows counties to create ferry districts gives them the right to impose a property tax of 75 cents for every $1,000 of assessed value, with out a vote of the people.
This will be implemented next year, of course after the November Elections.
Back to King Sims who is on a mission since he lost the Governors race wants to run the County like his little State getting his hands on everything possible to control the people and their assets.
I-25 petition "we're going to fight it with everything we've got." King Sims should not use tax money for his fight.

10. The "fight it" comment was the least of the chairdork's spew:

[Quote]
SHEARY: "Uh, we're going to fight it with everything we've got."

SUSAN SHEARY IS CHAIR OF THE KING COUNTY DEMOCRATS. SHE SAYS THE ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT HAS MADE HUGE IMPROVEMENTS SINCE THAT BUNGLED ELECTION 3 YEARS AGO.

SHEARY: "There's a disgruntled group of people who refuse to move on, from 2004, and they are going to keep crying and whining until they get their way."
[Unquote]

"Improvements"?? "Whining"???

To paraphrase SNL, "Susan, you ignorant slut..."

11. #9 - I agree with everything, except Mr Sims seems to have the ambition of ruling King Count like is own country. The one that comes to mind is Zimbabwe. He even *looks* a lot like Robert Mubage.

#8, I wish I could agree. The Democrats aren't the last of the totalitarians, but just another group of Kleptocrats, common in the world. Rob from the "rich" (everybody) and give to... themselves.
