Good News, Bad News Week for Boeing

A big order from Aeroflot is the good news, though it's more political than economic in benefit.

The bad news is the revelation a major supplier for the 787 has issues. It's a reminder that the spreading of capital risk that is part of the 787 business model also means there are more cooks in the proverbial kitchen capable of burning something important. That being said, the news doesn't appear to indicate the broader 787 program is at risk of falling far off schedule.

And given the above news about Vought's work for Boeing, is there anyone who wonders whether Airbus will have trouble matching Boeing's partner-heavy business model that it intends to pursue with its own 787 competitor, the A350 (which did recently win a very important firm order)? If Airbus's performance getting the A380 in the air on time is any indicator I wouldn't put any money on the company getting the A350 rolled out by 2013 as promised.

1. Eric and other naysayers--you doth worry too much, methinks.

There will be a plane rolled "out" (actually, it will be rolled by, not out) on the 8th of July.

Now, will it have red parts, sure. Will it fly, nope, not yet.

But it will be a complete plane.

Bad parts? Well, how aobut rough, not bad. New technology yaknow. Struggling partners? You bet, always have had that at the lazy "B". The B sends piles of managers and operatives as they always have, and helps the parter get upright.

Will it be a kick-butt airplane, yuppers!

So I know it is fun to write about, but kewel yer jets. It will happen. Remember, the first seven are test planes, anyway. #1 and #3 will be broken, or stressed to the point of unusability anyway.

The worst thing about it is they won't let the Geez come and play at the rollout.
