Candidate filings are in

King County has posted what appears to be the final list of candidate filings.

Updates since this morning:

* Jim Nobles is Republican candidate for Assessor
* Richard Pope is running against Jane Hague (as a Democrat) [hint: Richard, you're a better researcher than you are a candidate]
* Dow Constantine finally got around to filing this afternoon.
* John Potter is Constantine's Republican challenger
* PDC-challenged Bill Sherman filed for Prosecutor
* A few more longshots and/or perennial candidates filed for Seattle City Clowncil. Sadly, neither Rasmussen, Godden nor Clark have credible challengers.

2. So...can we expect to see Pope at John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama campaign events? Will Pope and Dwight Pelz now take warm showers together? Will Pope, Ron Sims, Larry Gosset and Larry Phillips vacation together? Will Pope lead the way in the next amnesty for illegals or gay pride event? Will Pope pine longingly for the return of Dean Logan to KC Records and Elections? Will he? Huh? Will he???

Isn't this de riguer for Dems to do??? And, like all good little Dems, will he start bashing our soldiers and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Well...now he belongs to the Dems, and I say...the deserve each other.

5. This is the second time Mr. Pope has run for office as a Democrat. I look forward to the next time he attacks someone else's loyalty to the GOP!

Posted by: Chris Vance on June 8, 2007 06:35 PM
6. Pope isn't a good researcher.

Posted by: Don Ward on June 8, 2007 06:41 PM
7. Sorry I was only able to get three identical posts up. I wanted to get one for each office Pope as asipired to and FAILED MISERABLY to attain.

Anyone care to make book on how low his ultimate vote percantage will be? I'm guessing it won't crack double digets.

8. Nobles (R) vs Noble (D). Brilliant! Right out of the Demorat playbook.

9. Perhaps Pope got tired of the neo conservative koolaide.
Perhaps he wanted to do more than hang out in front of the churches and the Safeways to gather signatures for Eyman intiatives.
The R's have nobody to blame but an anal retentive neo conservative platform that only wins a majority with the pitchfork and shovel church folk crowd.

10. Richard Pope is showing his true colors. I've often suspected that he was a democrat plant. This is his last party switch - he will NEVER again be believed in his assertion that he is a Republican.

Bye-bye Richard. Good luck in your new party!

11. VOTE for rhe Republican candidate in all races.

And what the heck is a DOUCHE anyhow?

And is Richard Pope really a DOUCHE-O-CRAT?

15. Hey! Anybody notice the 'strange' smell in the 8th Council caucus at the KCGOP convention last Saturday? THAT was coming from our illustrious candidate for 8th R Council Candidate against Dow Constantine. John Potter was wearing a hawaiian shirt and shorts and had VERY obnoxious BO!!! Phewww! In the morning no less!!! What's the matter? Doen't he believe in deodorant and proper attire for a Council Seat? I Googled him! He has run for something every year for the last 7 years! He runs and does not file with the PDC. Then he gets fined! He seems to have some obsessive NEED to run over and over so he can get attention, thumb his nose at the government and make the Rs look ridiculous. I wonder if he goes to newspaper interviews with body odor? Talk about you UNQUALLIFIEDS!

16. Eunice: Pope is no Democrat. However, while he is conservative, he has no party loyalty, and never has as long as far as I can tell. His PDC complaint against the King County GOP showed that, too.

Not that we should be blindly loyal, of course, but he has no loyalty whatsoever.

17. Mr. Pope.

As someone who previously has supported you, campagined for you, and voted for you, let me tell you what you will surely find out at the polls...

NEVER AGAIN!

Your actions this past year have been in-excusable and I for one will campaign for ANYONE that you are running against from here on out.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

18. Richard Pope is a political opportunist who only cares about getting elected to something (anything!). That's what makes his career (can you call it that?) so comically tragic.

Pope ranted extensively on here about Mike McKay's alleged disloyalty. Where is Richard now? He usually posts a few moments after his name is mentioned. We know you're reading this Richard! :)

19. Hey Inquiring Mind, don't through stupid accusations that have nothing to do with anything at people. What point does talking about Potter's hygene have? (And I question that greatly, having been in the same room and spoken with Potter frequently.) Yes, he may be a perennial candidate but he doesn't do it to get attention. He fills the R holes on the ballot in districts that we can't completely give up yet. Plus, he's got good ideas and, unlike Pope, he is not an opportunist.

20. Hey Pope, going to resign as GOP PCO now?

Posted by: WarmFuzzyPuppies on June 10, 2007 08:23 PM
21. WarmFuzzyPuppies: I don't think it is possible to run as a Democrat and be a Republican PCO. He should either resign, or be removed.

22. DINO vs RINO

Richard Pope is more Republican on a bad day than Jane Hague hoisted on Chris Vance's shoulders (yes, in a skirt).
Just one issue: Hague is rated 100% by Gay Rights Watch and they believe in Man/Boy relationships. David Irons, by comparison was 0%.

This had to happen sooner or later. A Democrat in Name Only. It's only fair. He could form a new "Mainstream Democrats of Washington" with Brad Owen and claim that true Democrats are "pragmatic" and work behind the scenes against socialism and sexual license.

The real, behind-the-scenes, story is that as part of the deal to replace conservative Steve Hammond with "progressive" Reagan Dunn in 2005, The Repubican Left (Hague, Von Reichbauer and the Young/Sotelo administration) agreed to a "safe districts" re-districting plan that satisfied the immediate political amgitions of all the liberals (from both Parties). In addisiton to protecting both sides' liberal incumbents from any serious opposition, gerrymandering Dunn into Hammond's District, and eliminating Irons' District entirely, it froze in place a long-term Democrat Majority.
Protecting this deal, King County Chair Michael Young has literally stood on his head breaking Party Rules and abandoning ethics to prevent any oppostion to liberal incumbents ON EITHER SIDE OF THE AISLE. No opposition to liberal Republicans is allowed. No opposition to protected Democrats is allowed either.
The only way anyone was going to get rid of a pro-abortion, gay-rights, tax and spend environmentalist radical like Hague was to run as a Democrat....
or do what I recommended...
Replace the Youngsters.
Richard's response was typically (for him) lone ranger stuff and perhaps self-destructive. But if you think this is disloyalty, what is McCain/Feingold? McCain/Kennedy? McCain/Lieberman?
How is the whole history of "Mainstream" liberal republicans voting against the will of their party, once in office, better?
The issue is quite clear - which is more important the ideals or the name?

And Don, if you seriously don't think Richard can do serious research I think Michael Young could have used your testimony at a recent hearing...

23. I hope this doesn't disappoint anyone but ... I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN PCO. I did not run for this office, nor was I elected to it. Please look at the official King County PCO election results at:

http://www.metrokc.gov/elections/200609/pcos.asp

(For the EXCEL challenged, I live in Precinct BEL 48-0140)

I did see that Keith Ervin put that in his Seattle Times article of June 9, 2007. I have no idea where he got that from. He didn't talk to me. Obviously, he didn't get it from the King County Elections website.

However, Keith Ervin did talk to King County Republican Chairman Michael Young, who is mentioned in the paragraph after where I am claimed to be a Republican PCO. I assume that Michael Young could have provided this erroneous information to Keith Ervin.

If Michael Young did this, it was probably carelessness on his part. Just like all those carelessly filed (or not filed) PDC reports over the last two years that his organization has been fined $40,000 for. But who knows his motives?

Posted by: Richard Pope on June 10, 2007 11:23 PM
24. Hey Warm & Fuzzy,
You need a reality check. Anyone who files every year for something, never wins, never turns in reports, and never does anything to advance the party, dresses like a pig and smells like one too has some serious issues. He does this to get attention. He seems to be a very needy person who cannot do anything productive, just file and run and garner some attention. Think his ideas are good all you want, but tell me - what good ideas does he have, since you seem to know. It looks to me like he just likes to get attention by making a fool out of himself and the R party. I bet the media think he is an obsessive attention getter. Maybe he, like Pope, is a D in R clothing.

25. No, YOU need a reality check. Pope is the one running to get attention, filing dressed up PDC complaints against the KCGOP and, in general, just acting like a complete douch-o-crat. He (and you, it appears) come from the same nutroot wing of politics as Doug Parris, Brian Thomas (not the esteemed erstwhile legislator, but the aggresive and infantile erstwhile senate candidate from the 37th LD). Not a whole lot of people outside of the 11th who aren't interested in politics know who Potter is simply because what you say is untrue. He doesn't particularly toot his own horn and when he has run he has been little more than a place filler and issues he has raised have been intelligent and meaningful. Unlike Pope, Parris and you he does not resort to character assasinations and slander (again, what does his fashion, which, I will give you is a bit on the non-conventional side) have to do with his politics?

And Doug, you miserable little pissant, if Pope is such a Republican then why doesn't he challenge Hague in the primary? Oh, what's that? Don't have a good answer for that one, do you? Why don't you and your ilk just take a hike; go start your own little commune in Bruce Craswell's backyard and leave those of us who'd like to be productive members of society to do exactly that.

Posted by: WarmFuzzyPuppies on June 11, 2007 04:59 PM
26. Richard has the courage to post, but ignores the main question. If one vocally criticizes Republicans who he deems are not loyal enough to the party, wouldn't it be hypocritcal for that same person to run for office as a Democrat?

As it stands, Richard, you're not a PCO, but you ARE a full-fledged hypocrite. That's what we're looking for an explanation about.

Posted by: AD on June 11, 2007 06:45 PM
27. Warm Puppies,
Beyond your "production" for society of hate-filled and meaningless name calling, you have also managed to make a substantive charge.
You have accused Pope and me of "character assassination and slander."

I ask but two things:
1. Publish any single example of any alleged slander attributable to me so that we can examine the charge on its merits: to be factual or itself a slander, and,
2. Post under your real name,
COWARD.
