Kitsap County Commission

Larry Coppola writes that Kitsap County Commissioner Chris Endresen will resign on June 28 to become State Director of U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell's office.

In March, two-term Republican Commissioner Jan Angel announced she wouldn't seek a third term. With Endresen out of the picture, 26-year old Democrat Josh Brown will become the county's senior commissioner. Angel and Brown, will appoint Endresen's replacement within five days of her resignation. If they can't agree, the appointment will be made by the governor.

1. Fortunately, I don't live in Kitsap. If I did, I'd break my arm to get my "for sale" sign up.

2. A partisan Democrat counting the votes, now moving on to a blatantly partisan position? Who'd a thunk it?!?!

3. Bush can't even appoint non-partisan lawyers...why should this state act any differently than the federal govt?

4. Hinton, just what does your comment imply? I do live in Kitsap and would like to thank her for her service to the county. Let me know if there is anything I do anything to help her resign any sooner than June!!!

5. Bush can't even appoint non-partisan lawyers

Yah, and God knows, that's what he's suppose to do, right? I mean, the President's appointees aren't suppose to be political at all. /sarc

Your ignorance is stunning as always, Cato.

6. A partisan Democrat counting the votes,

Followed by...

The President's appointees aren't suppose to be political at all

Why then do you seem so surprised a Democrat is going to fill this position? Seems to me that you're the ignoramus here.

7. Cato,

As usual you can't follow a line of reasoning. Go back and play in your sandbox and leave the adult stuff to the adults.

8. Now the gentle readers of Sound Politics may have forgotten some of the facts about the players in this unfolding drama.

Commissioner Joshua W. Brown fought back a court challenge to his residency for running for his position. While he did dodge the bullet -- metaphorically -- and kept his job thanks to a ruling by Judge Verser saying the plaintiffs' impressive case did not rise to the bar set by Verser, Brown still faces Class C felony complaint. Brown is the candidate for office who filed false voter registration (admitted to in court and signed by his own hand) and the matter was filed in a complaint. The complaint went to Kitsap Prosecutor, who predictably by the complaintant, recused Kitsap Prosecutor, investigators and courts from the felony inquiry.

The matter now resides before Pierce County Prosecutor Horne who is (supposedly) examining the case. If Brown's matter breaks for justice and against him, we would conceivably have two vacanies to fill.

If you want more details on the matter of the Class C felony, contact Pierce County Prosecutor's office for details. Perhaps you will have more luck getting answers than I did after filing the matter.

Kitsap County is getting to be quite the political pot boiler.

9. We should be a little worried over here in Kitsap land. The idea that the 26 year old newbie being the "senior" commissioner does not bode well for us.
Chris did work hard for the county and is a pretty smart lady. Same cannot be said of the two commissioners that are left.

10. Endresen is an intelligent, hardworking commissioner. Her ideology and mine are very different, but I can respect her opinions and decisions most of the time despite the differences. (Once in a while, she exhibits a closed mind, so it's not possible to respect her decisions or opinions all the time.)

What's worrisome is the absence of any name to fill in this blank: "Oh, how I wish they would pick _____________ to serve the remainder of Endresen's term in office."

Does anyone know of a good carpetbagger who wants to move to North Kitsap to fill the void left when Josh Brown "moved" to Central Kitsap?

11. The cynics/realists here on Bainbridge believe the sitting Commissioner Joshua W. Brown will get a "get-out-of-jail" card from the dealer on his false voter registration card. I called Pierce County for an update. No answer since the very seior lawyer handling the case had just left for vacation. Hmmm !

However local minor press reporter found this.Central Kitsap Reporter update on Joshua W. Brown Class C felony issue before Pierce County Prosecutor:

Charlie Bermant's article (www.centrealkitsapreporter.com) (5/5/07) in the CK Reporter "Legal case against Commissioner Brown Continues." Mentions Morgan's filing a complaint for perjury. Hauge's reference to referring case to Costello in Pierce Co. "Costello, who just finished a lengthy murder trial,is on vacation until May 21.He said he expected to determine the cases shortly after his return."
That is the essence of the story."

The wheels of Justice grind slowly . . . .
