The Seattle Times Co. and Hearst have settled their dispute over the Joint Operating Agreement such that we'll still have the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to kick around for the indefinite future. Oh well.
This also means that Darcy Burner will have to find something else to pad her resume with.
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at April 16, 2007 01:03 PM | Email ThisTake a look...I'm paying $615 for a micro- one bedroom in Kent. What can I get in Memphis, TN?
A 2 bed, 2 bath home, for $135,000. With a down payment of $27,000, that's a monthly of $648.
So, a complete home for the price of a rabbit warren.
And what's the weather there?
Sunny and 70 -- all this week!

Posted by: John Bailo on April 16, 2007 01:13 PMI loathe everything about the dump: the crappy weather, the mouth-breathing liberals, the stupid drivers, the mind-destroying public school systems, the farcical brain-dead socialist government, the unconscionable housing prices, and the horrible roads. Everything about Seattle sucks.
All things considered, the entire state of Washington pretty much sucks, too, for the same reasons. Even your college teams suck (I'm a native Gator).
The only reason I have stayed in the area for so long is that the only family my wife has lives here. And they're liberal nutjobs who can't stand my family's conservative values. However, I am gradually winning her over to the charms of a warmer and cheaper climate.
How happy the day will be when I finally woo my bride away from this poorly-schooled, liberal-infested, moss-covered hell.
Posted by: NurseWilliam on April 16, 2007 02:53 PMWhen it comes to the "liberals" around here, give them a break. They live in the real world. Not a fantasy world.
As far as the schools go, I think Washington's schoolkids smoke the crap out of Floribama's schoolkids. There is more to life than just football....
Posted by: Facts on April 16, 2007 03:20 PMHe is right about the schools, the socialists running (ruining)the state, the horrendous roads, the worse drivers and the out of control housing and college costs.
I do disagree with him about the weather... yep it drizzles, but we consider it MOISTURIZER!
The problem is where to go that has the mild climate we appreciate, that does NOT have the moonbats/socialists/power hungry dicators we suffer, that has the beauty of our corner of God's green earth...
My kid left for Nevada for the reasons Nurse listed and mostly because they are a 'hands off' government, with a populace that holds them to it... also because this area is a horrible, miserable place for a new young lawyer to find interesting, challenging work without being a thankless grunt for years...
Posted by: Ragnar Danneskjold on April 16, 2007 03:21 PMGo Gators! Me too :)
However, I have no desire to move back to Florida. I came from the southeast of Florida, which is a cesspool of blue hairs, rude New Yorkers, Canadian snow birds and the worst sports fans in the nation (except for maybe Atlanta).
Posted by: Palouse on April 16, 2007 04:29 PMAs an ER nurse, I am one of the fortunate few who can punch his own ticket. I have enough experience to teach, and I also have enough clinical experience to make me valuable anywhere I want to go.
On the other hand... the things I have to put up with (as described in my previous post) make leaving here all the more attractive.
And as for warmer, more hospitable climes (in all respects), Florida is not the only candidate.
Posted by: NurseWilliam on April 16, 2007 11:19 PMI agree. I am here for the same reasons. I can't wait to leave. This state is in a downward spiral.
Posted by: Jeff B. on April 17, 2007 08:52 AMWe actually accepted a job that would have transferred us back to the FL east coast... unfortunately that was after H Andrew: it was impossible to get homeowners insurance and so one was forced to get it through the Florida Joint Pool. My sister lives in Tampa and her HO imsurance just doubled. The public schools are horrendous and private school tuition is outrageous: it maked Seattle private tuition look reasonable. BUGS... Snakes... Humidity... Less than industrious immigrants... In Tampa, it rains EVERY AFTERNOON... no active, vital "downtown" ... we looked at beautiful homes with pools in gorgeous areas with terrific play areas for kids... yet no kids to be seen outside:in every single home that had people present the kids were in their darkened rooms playing video games, movies, computer... I refused to raise kids that think they are delicate hot house flowers.
