Danny Westneat reports hundreds of readers responded to his recent column on the Seattle School District's obsession with race.
Be sure to read public school principal Chris Drape's response. And also this one:
Elliott Bronstein, who is white and works in the Seattle Office for Civil Rights, said my column was a galling insult to many parents with school-age children."we as white people"? and "they [as black people]"? Sheesh, how racist. And he's the spokesman for Seattle's Office of Civil Rights and on a task force "to end institutional racism within City government". Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at April 08, 2007 10:44 AM | Email This"They have endured a system run mostly by whites and on white terms," he wrote. "And for them to be told, 'Oh, it's the District, they're obsessed with race over there. They are driving us farther apart.'
"Yeah. Right. Because we as white people have worked so hard to make things okay."
Bronstein is merely a White Jesse Jackson...a pimp of poverty.

Posted by: WVH on April 8, 2007 08:30 PMAnd what about poor white folks? I bet they would love to get some of that automatic priviledge associated with their color that so many Seattle Public School racists describe.
Earth to Seattle, what happened to Dr. King's words. You know, he's the guy for whom King County was reassociated as bearing his name. Were his words about judging people by the content of their charachter meaningless? And yeah, the Seattle Public Schools is "working so hard to make everything OK."
List of what constitutes working hard:
* Framing everything in terms of race.
* Pitting races against each other.
* Turning a blind eye to defective culture.
* Focusing on feel-good bromides instead of solid educational fundamentals.
* And all at the low, low price of $12,000 per year, per student.
Yeah, White People working hard to make everything OK.
What a bunch of disgusting, racist liars. Too bad the public can't get a refund on their purchase and shop elsewhere.

Posted by: dcat on April 9, 2007 06:25 AM"Racism:
The systematic subordination of members of targeted racial groups who have relatively little social power in the United States (Blacks, Latino/as, Native Americans, and Asians), by the members of the agent racial group who have relatively more social power (Whites). The subordination is supported by the actions of individuals, cultural norms and values, and the institutional structures and practices of society."
If Caprice Hollings wrote that, then I would say that Caprice Hollings is the problem, not the solution.
I hope I live long enough to put away enough money to keep my grand children out of the Seattle Public School system.
Posted by: NW Denizen on April 9, 2007 08:53 AMWill the liberals in the area sit by and watch as M.L.Kings image on the new King County flag is burned, deficated upon and otherwise abused like what happend during the anti-war protests in Portland? Or will they cry "Racism" and file charges? Would Gossett blow a Gasket? Would Sims squeal?
Posted by: Smokie on April 9, 2007 03:52 PMI point out the disgusting racism leveled in very public statements made by Seattle Public School leaders, and he says that is hatred. Disgust with policy is a lot different than hate. I don't hate these people. I am sure that some of them are nice people, just very misguided and racist in their policy.
Further, the statement that I am trying to start a war. War? What does the word war mean? A disagreement does not mean war. War would be advocating taking up weapons against those with whom I disagree in Seattle Public schools. That's obviously very far fetched. But that's the emotional rhetoric from dcat.
Instead of arguing based on the facts of what Seattle Public School officials have actually said, dcat turns to an Appeal To Emotion, and uses fiery rhetoric to imply that I want to start a war.
These are logical fallacies, I conclude that dcat has no valid arguments to refute the policy on institutional racism as proffered by Seattle Public School officials.

Jeff tells it like it is - nice job!
