October 21, 2006: "Registration forms' late delivery makes 1,100 ineligible to vote"

About 1,100 King County residents are not eligible to vote in the November election because a box containing their voter-registration forms was sent by UPS rather than U.S. mail, election officials said Friday ... "They didn't have a U.S. postmark that was posted in time," Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Janine Joly said.
The registrations were collected by ACORN, which has been implicated in numerous incidents of voter registration fraud around the country.

My reaction at the time was to criticize ACORN for disenfranchising 1,100 voters. But as I've been hearing lately from a number of sources, a very large number of those registrations appear to be fraudulent (multiple registrations in identical handwriting; few "voters" who can be reached for confirmation; purported voters who deny having completed the form). Stay tuned.

5. I cannot wait until we see the MSM reaction to this deveopment.
Here is my guess..............
The Seattle Times will do a reasonable job of informing readers what information they have.

Vs.

The P-I will ignore the story or whitewash it.
Joel Connelly will certainly ignore this story....especially when you consider all the "voters" Mr. Connelly is harboring at his Island County weekend retreat.

How will the Public React???
Remains to be seen.
We will see the Left immediately shift the focus to Florida & Ohio....ignoring ACORN's ugly track record....blaming Karl Rove & Bush. Some sort of "justifiable fraud" if you will.

Republicans will be completely outraged.
It is a PERFECT opportunity to re-energize a tired, almost non-existent base. ACORN is trying to hijack our form of government.

Moderates????
I predict many will be outraged.

The Democrats will be flailing around trying to distance themselves from ACORN.
Republicans MUST make the tie stick.
MUST. MUST. MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. I agree.
The Republicans must absolutely tie ACORN to Democrat money.

Posted by: dude on February 22, 2007 01:14 PM
7. And were it not for sites like SP and others, ACORN would be getting away with it, no questions asked.

You mean spirited right wingers are at it again.

9. The "Registration forms" were most likely sent United Parcel Service rather than United States Postal Service to avoid MAIL FRAUD charges should the project go south.

Using United Parcel Service for shady deals is common.

10. Maleng won't touch it. If pressed he'll claim there's no fraud because the documents weren't filed.

11. >United Parcel Service rather than United States Postal Service to avoid MAIL FRAUD

The mail fraud statute, 18U.S.C. Sec 1341, was modified in 1994 to include carriers such as UPS. A good question for professor McKay at SU Law School would be "Sir, do you think the feds would touch the ACORN registration scandle? If not, why?"

12. Watch for Dem sponsored legislation that will sheild voter registration drives from public records requests, or consequences, if the drives were done primarily to support Democratic efforts to increase Democratic power anywhere. Also expect to see the emergency clause used.

13. ...the famous ancient story (not taught in schools today) shows the lone man with a lantern looking for 1 honest man...

jimmie's fable upgrade:

he is now looking for ANY leaders, ANY testosterone, or brass round orbs in today's (yes, gender-adjusted & symbolically-sensitive) voters & legislators.

help!

14. I've HAD IT with ACORN'S fraudulent registrations. bust these people! KC did us all a service by following the rules on delivery of registrations. I'm shocked they even followed the law that time, because they seem so unwilling to in other cases.

15. Michelle-
Hypothetical Question----
What would Dean Logan have done???
I'll bet those registrations would have been processed Michelle.....which begs another question-
Did ACORN do this BS in the 2004 Governor's Race???

16. Cynical: Gosh, that's a hard one! I wonder if any of those 176,000 names removed from the voter data base could possibly be part of ACORN's 2004 registration drive? Oh, say it ain't so!

17. Someone given our authority via election (were they really elected?) take some action and arrest and charge and convict and imprison these chaos makers for a long time.

Or are you cheap cowards that helped to steal a nation and are leaving one hell of a mess.

Can you see the HOWL if one girl scout had filled out one fake voter registration.

Remember they are Trading (y)our liberty for their security.

19. Voter fraud?.......in WA ?.....This is what happens when socialist are in power. These peolple want illegal votes counted so they can retain power. Remember motor/voter ?....the ethics challenged sr senator from MA had a big hand in crafting this bad piece of law. If various states would just say NO to this law we could take one step for clean and honest elections. I doubt this state would ever have the balls to do it since they (socialists) would probably lose power. This state has too many good people to allow this to happen, but thses good people must not only make thier voices heard but must take action as well.

20. What I found interesting in the PI story is they focused on the signature gatherers being paid, indicating a correlation between getting paid for signature gathering and fraud.

Only at the end of the article did they mention that they were paid by the hour which our legislature wants to go to.

Also missing was that the registrations were in a county that is pushing vote by mail, which is harder to track for fraud and much easier to abuse.

21. They also didn't mention that ACORN is a very liberal group supported by Moveon.org and supports only very left candidates. So who would have benefitted from this if it had not been caught?

Next question, how many were not caught?
