Credit where credit is due

The AP reports:

More than 176,000 names were removed from the state's voting rolls last year under a new statewide voter database that was developed to help counties find duplicate registrations and dead voters, Secretary of State Sam Reed said today.
The Secretary of State and his team are to be commended for their welcome progress on the statewide database and cleaning up the voter rolls.

But the Secretary and/or the AP reporter are also presenting a rosier picture than circumstances merit:

Reed said that just because a high number of names were removed doesn't mean that there is anything fraudulent going on -- its just that cross-database information makes it easier to quickly catch duplication registrations and voters who have recently died.
Nearly 40,000 duplicate registrations were cancelled. Many if not most of these were intra-county duplicates that should never have been entered in the first place and should not have required a statewide database to detect. I have no evidence that any specific ones were created by voters with fraudulent intent. But that doesn't mean there was no fraud. Indeed, what else would you call it when potentially outcome-altering phenomena like tens of thousands of duplicate registrations before the 2004 election, which led to documented double voting in numerous cases, were well-known to elections officials but were not promptly disclosed before the contest trial? If that's not official fraud, what is?

1. 40k dead voters and 4.5k felons removed. What are the Dems going to do without those votes?

2. Stefan,

What is this the third purging since the recount? Didn't Logan and Co. do at least one or two just at the county level after the "04 disaster? Is anyone keeping a running total?

3. Just want to assure election officials that all the names registered at my one room cabin are legitimate voters. Johnny Walker, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, and W. Turkey are all good friends of mine. Although I am suspicious that the Kentucky Gentleman who lives next door might be registered in two states.

4. Whiskey Dick? Joel..Joel Connelly is that you? One room cabin, multiple register voters. Ezra Williams called from Buffalo Trace, he left his Makers Mark at your place on his way to the Bakers.

5. Whiskey @3--LOL yep;
'Just because your wallet is gone, does not mean we aren't concerned about crime!"
It’s a start--late, pizz-poor, but a start. Throwing raw gas down a slow-starting carburetor;
Perhaps a placating symbolic gesture for the "Little People" of the "Leona Helmsley" days.

Call me back when you REALLY mean voting reform!

8. Republicans are lucky to have Sam Reed as one of our few state-wide elected officials. He is a standard of integrity in this Democrat cesspool, and I for one am proud of him. Maybe if he keeps whittling away at the phony voters roles we can win a few more. Thanks Sam, don't listen to all these Dem complainers around here!
sincerely, Melvin Dootson, Snoqualmie.

9. You crazy right wingers. There is NOTHING fraudulent about having mutliple voters at my cabin address. I myself take up the space of three people, so there are three solid Democrat votes right there. You right wingers are mean spirited.

10. For Christ's sake, Stefan, stop beating this tired, dead ass horse.

Your repeated, ill-substantiated allegations of "voter fraud" are utterly laughable.

Rs regularly beat this dead horse in order to supress voter turnout. Remember Strom Thurmond, Lee Atwater, Jesse Helms, et al.

I cannot understand how you manage to look at yourself in the mirror in the morning with a straight face, having thrown your name in with such a bunch of foul, racist scoundrels.

I hope you guys have a very long and vigourous shower this morning. You shall need it to scrape all the foul, viscous mire off your flesh.

11. bartleby, it was proven that people voted twice, and dead and you STILL hope people will buy the "there was no fraud" thing. Why???
And exactly HOW does Stefan try to "suppress" voter turnout by reporting this????

12. @10: more for the libspeak dictionary:
"dead horse"--something that we liberals think should properly stay in the closet.
"public's need to know"--anything remotely scandalous regarding a conservative or the opposition.

13. 1) I hope to learn how citizenship is determined. The government needs a central registry, like the corporations (e.g. ChoicePoint, Lexus/Nexis) already have.

2a) During the last CEOC meeting, Paul Guppy expressed concerns about the signature cards sent to all poll voters in preparation for the upcoming March 13th forced mail voting election. He asked what steps is the county (and state) taking to verify the identity of the signature. No one present knew.

2b) On that point, I received a letter for my former roommate. He moved EIGHT years ago. Out of state. What's to prevent me from signing that form, returning it, getting that new signature on file, and voting on behalf of my former roommate?

3) How is it that junk mail follows me around? What services are they using that our county (and state) not using to keep up on people's current addresses?

14. Bartelby:
How was it that the dead were able to walk into voting places in Seattle to vote? The zombie vote in Seattle had to go for someone. I wonder who. Let alone how could people stand the smell of the dead walking among them as they voted.
There are many levels of fraud. One of the biggest my friends talk about is KC Democrat activists hand out absentee ballots to thier friends who are not citizens telling them to vote. Because you think the right way. This fraud I know has been reported to the State and they said dont worry about it. Though my knowledge is hearsay and can not be used in court. There are times I wish I had money to hire a PI to investigate these activists activities and take them to court. Fraud is Fraud and my friends have talked about every election since 2000 they have been offered ballots from briefCases. Cleaning up the voter rolls is nice but it still does not work with non citizens allowed to vote.
Oh yes when Stephen looked ballots marked as these are not registered voters by voting officials. Clearly Marked do not count. Had their ballots removed and added to the count. The corruption for power is strong in this Democrat run state. And now hold on to your pocket book.
Just like every political plan to fix the issues loop holes will be made to ensure that the corruption can continue under a new ideas. I found it interesting the corruption in KC has spread all over the US by Activist democrats.
I love it when Micky Mouse, Donald Duck, are added to the voting lists. Fake registrations are hard to find if they use John Smith. or Jones. Easy to catch with uncommon names. I want honest elections.
This is only the first step. But they have to work harder at voter fraud. And hold election officials responsible for failures to keep high standards to ensure not voting fraud. But our Election officials are appointed so no accountability except to those who appoint them.
Selective use a rules by those same people because they know if they dont perform to expectatations of the Democrats they are out of a job. So no real reform can take place as long as political cronies run the joint.

15. Consider Sam Reed's new "Data Integrity Program". His database filtering came up with 60 potential voter fraud cases and closer examination produced 1 out of those 60 that was an actual case worth forwarding. Now consider the court case and injunction placed on that database method and we have the makings of huge 2008 litigation that will make 2004 look tame. Sam better get busy, because the other side is licking their chops. Does the Supreme Court sound familiar? See you in 2008.

16. Slightly off topic, but I saw a PI article about a Braziliam man working at the DOL issuing bogus licenses to 156 Brazilians from Boston whose visas had expired.

Do you think any of them would have registered to vote using the moter/voter program at the DOL? Any way to find out? There could be a lot more of them.

17. Yup.
They are investigating 1 (one) potential case of fraud.

Yippee!

18. bravo for the effort. hey--our WA state relief supplies for the 1900's SF quake just arrived.
math quiz:
500k+ illegal alien voters flooding our results
less: 170k voters purged
equals: (?)
