Gossett elected King County Council Chairman
Former Black Panther Larry Gossett has been elected Chairman of the King County Council
The P-I reports:
Gossett said he will work readily with the GOP minority.

"I think people will be pleasantly surprised with how collaborative and transparent and involving we will be," he said.

Gossett is my nominal representative on the Council and his office has yet to return a single one of my calls or e-mails. Maybe he'll be more gracious now that he's Chairman. And if he fails to live up to this promise, he will undoubtedly welcome aggrieved citizens to hold sit-ins in his office.

1. Time to down size the King County Council to Seven.

2. Next time I talk to Larry, Stefan, I'll congratulate him. By ignoring you, he demonstrates that he has more sense than I do.

3. ivan - you capsulated the libs view of their constituents - ignore any of them that have questions that might be difficult or counter to your thoughts!

Thanks - couldn't have said it better myself!

4. What's wrong with the Black Panthers? They did more for the poor than Regan ever did.

Posted by: Cato on December 12, 2006 11:22 AM
5. Cato - I assume you think UBL is a hero too, like our distinguished Senator, as he did more good for Muslims than the US.

6. Cato @ 4...

I didn't know Judith Regan tried to do anything for blacks! She SHOULD be ashamed!!

7. Good for Gossett to ignore Stephan and his Don Quioxte complex. It was only the other nuts in the assylum like the minnow minions at (U)sp that paid any attention to that windmill tilter.

8. Oh... and to Iban @ 2...

So... Tell us...

What DID Larry Gossett have for dinner last night? Can you taste it, yet??

Apparently, Mr. Gossett is as much of a coward now, as he was back when he was running around with that glorified street gang known as the "Black Panthers".

"If ya can't face the heat (or the tough questions), stay the HELL out of POLITICS".

9. Hey Stephy;
Your a little quiet on the "War on Christmas" You afraid to insult your minnow minions? But don't worry, there will be a place for the well behaved, propaganda pushing jews, in their new world order. Can you say Crusades(XVI)? I know you love your Roman numerals. Why can't you just use english numbers when your in America. Why do you hate the troops?

10. GOOD GOD, PEOPLE!!

Can't ANY of you loony leftists put together two coherent sentences that aren't rife with spelling and grammatical errors?? Just goes to show that the Publik Skrool system is working SO well in this state. (Either that, you guys were too busy smoking dope and listening to Jimi Hendrix records to care about learning ANYTHING...) The trolls on this site are getting to be like reading the comments on the Olympian's website. There are just SOOO many examples of "higher learning" (pun intended) that you can't read through a whole thread without getting the munchies.

11. Danw at #10. No anti-semitism in your comments at all. And just why are you so angry?

Posted by: Bill Cruchon on December 12, 2006 12:34 PM
12. No problem, Ivan... you need not go to any further effort to prove how senseless you are to us. We've known that from your first post.

Wish you had your Burner money back for Xmas? Still singing that idiotic song?

Still banging money and raising doors? (Aharyuk!) Are you thrilled that the people of the 8th want to continue the Bush Administration's policies?

13. People who spew anti-semitic slurs as a result of the airport controversy make as much sense as the posters on this bb who equate (pre-Christian, druid-inspired, germanic, and zoroastrian) evergreen trees with Christianity.

Sheesh. Get a grip.

14. danw: off-topic, but I expressed my opinion on the seatac christmas trees in a comment on matt's post. look it up. And as stupid as those King-5 commenters might be, their comments doesn't belong here either.

15. Hinton @ 12:

We stomped your butts all over the state and all over the country, and came closer than we ever had to winning in a District that had never elected a Democrat to Congress. So Merry Christmas to you.

16. I do believe that even Woody Hayes was more gracious in victory than you, Ivan.

17. As the saying goes Leopards don't change their spots.

Think about that next time you see a panther.

18. Bill Cruchon @ 16:

Pot, meet kettle. Funny that you should mention Woody Hayes. I like to think of him in defeat. I was at Penn State in 1964 when we went into Columbus to play the 7-0, #2-rated Buckeyes on Band Day, where the bands spell out O-H-I-O in cursive and the one lucky little guy gets to dot the i.

Woody had vowed to crush us because we had beaten them 10-7 at Columbus the year before. We beat them 27-0, and they didn't even cross the 50 till late in the second quarter.

Woody came unglued, threw his hat, stomped on the sidelines, screamed at the refs, his whole act. We laughed at him all the more.

The 2006 election was your 1963 game, and the 2008 election will be your 1964 game. Payback is hell.

21. cato 4--

are you obviously younger and have not reviewed your history, despite your historic name? check the paper archives.

"...by any means.." ring a bell? "armed resistance" ring a bell? ask some older cops/their families from Chicago.

Panthers weere not known to carry water pistols or paint ball guns. They usually did not march for global warming or 'no fur clothing.' wake up. ever hear of snipers in the 'projects?' i thought not. more convenient to forget the nasty parts of history that fit your the pc agenda.

not to say current folk still support their former ideas, but it's relevant for figures in and given the public trust, don't you think? after all, everyone gets their skeletons exposed by the libs & conservatives. fair is fair, right?

Posted by: jimmie-howya-doin on December 12, 2006 03:46 PM
22. Right on, jimmie! And let's not forget his other membership: SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee). "Nonviolent" was a total lie, these guys were second only to the SDS in campus and antiwar violence.

Of course, being a liberal Dem, he doesn't have to apologize any more than Robert Byrd has to apologize for his high rank in the KKK all those years ago. Or Trent Lott for saying nice things about Strom Thurmond... oh, wait a minute...

23. How in the world did Gossett ever get the nomination to head the County Council? He must have threatened or promised something in order for the rest to go along with such a travesty.
Whatever can those Council people be thinking?

It's a mockery of the system to put this type of political nonenity in such a position. They sould be ashamed of themselves for even nominating him for the position.

"It's a mockery of the system to put this type of political nonenity in such a position. They sould be ashamed of themselves for even nominating him for the position."

They haven't apologized for John Kerry yet. In fact, I'd bet ivan still thinks he's a viable candidate.

25. Q: "What's wrong with the Black Panthers?"

A: Criminals like
Huey Newton
Bobby Seale
Eldridge Cleaver
Kathleen Cleaver
Raymond Johnson Jr
Bunchy Carter

For starters.

27. I retain a certain amount of doubt about the charges that were leveled against the Panthers in the late 60's and early 70's.

The black community was justifiably pissed at the establishment after the assassination of MLK and the Panthers arose as a result of that rage.

Many of the charges in the Bay Area resulted from unprovokes raids by CA officials when the Panthers armed themselves in accordance with the 2nd amendment.

I would remind you all of the outrage that emanated from the conservative movement when the Clinton Administration began using the same tactics Ruby Ridge in Idaho and in Waco. I'm not convinced that the Panthers were treated in a very different manner.

28. This article doesn't seem to mention Martin Luther
King. But it sure seems to display a lot of anger,
and Al Farmer appears to be serious about the plan.

30. I think sleeping pill sales are going to take a hit with the election of Gossett to Chair. This guy could put the whole county to sleep with one of his speeches.

Clean house, Gossett was elected because Phillips was going to go for a third term as chair and some of the Dem's where growing weary of him in that capacity. What will Gossett do as chair?...nothing significant, just expensive.

Posted by: Smokie on December 12, 2006 06:14 PM
31. What does the chairman do? Call role? I think 'ol marble mouth Larry can handle that. It's the meetings that he misses, when the VC will slur her way through the docket, that will be the most entertaining.

Note to Phillips: cut back on the sodium (or the sauce)--your head's about to explode.

One more Stroke from the stress and you will lose the Senate.

Keep it up!

34. Larry Gossett is Ron Sim's man on the Council-

What happened to Larry Philips? And how did Gossett get the nomination? I heard Julia Patterson, Bob Ferguson, and Dow Constantine were all considering a bid to replace Philips, but the Republicans were balking at replacing Philips. (With Ferguson maybe, but the other Dems were unwilling to support him).

What the heck is happening at the Council?!

35. I notice that Patterson got a Policy Vice-Chair. I think that makes it obvious she is trying to position herself to run for County Executive.

Meanwhile Jane Hague has once again secured the Employment position, where she makes sure the actual Council runs smoothly. (And also give herself leverage over the Council Staff, and over all the other council members).
