WA Conservative Blogosphere Update

It's nice for some folks to imagine that conservatives are mostly angry humorless dweebs with few animating interests other than work, family, guns, stock car races, Flatt & Scruggs, and parading around with posters of aborted fetuses. Uh, not quite. So forthwith, some of our recent additions to the Sound Politics blogroll.

First, some notes. 1) please click on "Full Blogroll" at the end of our abbreviated main page blogroll to get the whole flauta, and see below in this post for some of the new links added there; 2) send blogroll suggestions to soundpolitics_tips at usefulwork dot com - and include "Sound Politics blogroll" in subject line. Our criterion: WA or NW-based, usually moderate conservative to conservative, and at least some state, regional or local political content. But - as you'll see below - we're also attuned to WA bloggers with other (non-political) interests who turn out, if you scroll down a bit, to also be politically engaged and lean libertarian or conservative.

Below are some of the sites I added yesterday. Some are more purely political, some less so. Give 'em a spin.

Matt Jones of Bellingham - "Random Acts of Verbiage."

The blog of the Federalist Society, University of Washington Chapter.

Clark County Conservative.

Unfit For The Internet.

Nurse William. I really like this guy, even if we may not necessarily agree on everything. Also a (sometimes flame-throwing) contributor to the Sound Politics public blog, he describes himself as a "conservative alpha-male committed to excellence in nursing through evidence-based practice, the continuous purposeful learning process, and critical thinking." I sense that if I were in trench in Iraq or Iran or say, Fremont, I would be very glad to have Nurse William at my side.

My Sandmen.

Seattle News Blog (a conservative-friendly compendium site).

Jonathan Gardner ("Federal Way Conservative" blog). A Sound Politics commenter, with his own political blog. Untimid, promising. More links and a blogroll would help, tho.

Mark Gardner, Whacky Nation (politics, politics - WA and national). Well-written, quite worthwhile. Any relation to Jonathan?

NW Bloggers. A new group blog from some capable, established NW bloggers. A worthy venture, but ramp it up some, guys. More umph, sass, bite, n' steroids. OK?

A Skagit Valley College Alumnus' Blog.

Terrible Swift Sword. (More, Kenshi, more!).

2. Matt, have you thought about removing some of the inactive blogs from the blogroll? Or perhaps putting them below the "full blogroll" jump?

I'll check out the new sites!

3. You may blithely make fun of people who "parade around with posters of aborted fetuses", but you may not know of the numerous women who comment that if they had known more about how developed their babies were (even at 7 weeks, with arms, fingers, legs, heads and eyes), and what the abortion procedures actually involved happening to the babies, they never would have done it. You would be shocked to know how many women are walking around so emotionally wounded about what they've done. More women than I think any of us could ever have imagined are walking around in abject pain about what they did/were talked into doing. I was surprised how many. It's a huge tragedy. They are very consistent in their comments after they see photos of aborted babies: "If someone had only told me the truth of this, I never would have done it and then I wouldn't be drinking, completely depressed, etc. like I've been for years. Not a day goes by that I don't think about it, etc." Yet they were often coerced by parents, boyfriends etc. to do it when they really didn't want to. Others were told by Planned Parenthood "counselors" that it was their best option, but the moment it was over the awful realization that they literally had just killed their own child takes over and they are an emotional mess. Not just for a day, but for years. It was supposed to be the easy "Fix" for all their problems, they were told.
That turned out to be a lie for far too many. A lot of people, when shown a photo of the truth of abortion, would rather laugh it off--probably because it's easier than admitting how truly ugly the whole thing really is.

In another post, I mentioned silentscream.org, where one of the founders of NARAL shows a video of an (via ultrasound) in utero baby trying desparately to get away from an abortionist's suction tube. It is violent-looking and heartbreaking to see. The NARAL founder (now NOT a fan of abortion) tells the viewer how the abortionist upon seeing the video of what he did to the baby (this abortionist had apparently performed 1,000's of abortions) never did another abortion.

4. That's funny Matt. I think that of the posters and bloggers of the what shall we say- "the liberal" slant.

5. Me (#3)

Thanks for your reply! While I can't totally say that I like the idea of the posters outside the clinics (simply because it tends to give people an opportunity to stereotype Pro-lifers as "religious nut cases"), I agree with everything that you said in your post. I am in my mid 40s and I can't count how many women I know who are struggling with drugs, alcohol, depression, lousy relationships (with men or with their children) and almost without fail, I find out that they had an abortion in their past. It is tragic that so many women have been lied to and I hope and pray that we can get the truth out, despite the media's refusal to touch the subject. Abortion is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and we need to stop denying the long term emotional and physical ramifications!

6. Ditto on me's post. Too bad those pictures aren't more readily available for people to see. It would affect their PC opinion that abortion is a "woman's choice". Some of the pols stance on abortion shows no class or understanding of what an abortion is.

7. I think, in addition, women opting for abortion ought to be given more chances to hear from people wanting to adopt. If they realized how happy their children could make childless couples, then they could see that what to them is a problem may prove to be a blessing for someone else.

9. swatter, you can go to abort73.com for photos and enlightening info. Also, abortionno.org

The interesting thing is, once people see these photos, they very quickly make up their minds on the subject.

11. Matt,
You might want to run the blogroll through the W3C Link Checker from time to time. It will find broken and re-directed links for you.

12. NurseWilliam is an excellent choice, Matt! And yes, we should all be glad to have him by our side in the trenches!

14. Something wrong with Flatt & Scruggs? Bite your tongue, Matt. Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are Gods.

15. Thanks for the mention! I am going to figure out how to use the blog software better. I just discovered today how to find link to the blog and posts.

I really don't have enough time to write posts. I am trying to get some of the great conservatives in Federal Way to start contributing so we can all have something to read besides the Mirror.

No, Mark is no relation that I know of (but you never know until you compare pedigrees.)

16. Jonathan@15: a conservative group blog on politics from S. King County/Federal Way - especially one that included a healthy sprinkling of link-y local and regional political commentary, would be a GREAT idea. I hope you can get a few more contributors. Be sure to e-mail us if and when you have the first few posts up from new contributors, I'll be very happy to give another plug to the site here at that time.

Metronatural Rube@11 and Patrick B.@2: thanks for the helpful suggestions.

Nurse William@8, Another Matt@10, and SVC Alumnus@1: You're welcome!

AND STU@14: Hey Bro, I LIKE Flatt & Scruggs - they certainly are bluegrass gods. Have you heard Jerry Douglas play the dobro, BTW?
