Vote, then relax and enjoy the counting

There's not much more to say about candidates and ballot measures that hasn't already been said (read my endorsements if you want my opinions). Get out and vote. If you want to help make "Get out the vote" phone calls, the McGavick campaign is running election day phone banks, details here. Or contact the Reichert campaign, here

Certain King County polling places are at risk of flooding and may be relocated -- check the county Elections website for details.

Vote. Tell your family, friends and neighbors to vote. And then lay back and trust Ron Sims and King County Elections to tell us who won. Relax. It's not as if there aren't any important close races or that control of Congress is at stake, or anything.

1. I have to say--and I don't think I'm alone in this---that I have been MUY impressed with the GOTV effort that the national and local republican parties have put on. I have donated to candidates, but not to the party itself. I think they (fed and state) have earned a donation from me. I hope others who have felt the same will do so, also. Good work deserves to be rewarded.

GOP County Chairman Ross Marzolf even came to my kids' school and talked to the 12th-grade government classes. My daughter said it was a very good presentation. Thank you, Ross!

I was also very impressed with the FULL-PAGE ad put out by the House Republican Organizational Committee in the King County Journal today asking the general public if they agreed with the King County Democrat platform (I have summarized here in my own words):

*Personal income tax
*Forbidding use of local law enforcement for immigration law enforcement
*Allowing teachers to strike
*Doctor-assisted suicide
*Making it easier for felons to vote
*Abolish death penalty
*Canadian rationed health care system
*Gay marriage

I thought it was very effective and I was proud of the republican party for running such an ad. Keep up the good work, GOP! check's in the mail...

2. Sorry about the duplicate and Off Topic post but this is appropriate for tomorrow:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/04/us/politics/04lawyers.html?ei=5090&en=2662d2337c08335b&ex=1320296400&adxnnl=1&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=print&adxnnlx=1162882167-9Qd/sfxPxrI0Gj9ztLSnLw

"Lawyers and voting experts say they are especially watching the states with new voter identification laws, where they expect the laws to cause confusion and possible contention. Some of the new laws, in Arizona, Georgia, Indiana and Missouri, are being litigated. Voting rights groups in those states say they intend to interview people turned away because of a lack of proper identification."

I wonder how many shills will be hired to present incorrect ID at the polls, be interviewed by voting right groups, and suddenly have the correct ID and screaming they were disenfranchised?

3. "And then lay back and trust Ron Sims and King County Elections to tell us who won."

ACK!
It's against the law to use "trust" and "Ron Sims" in the same sentence.....especially in relation to each other....(even in jest!)

4. Right now, King County Elections has some joke election results posted on their website:

5. The Zero in olympia is noting that voters in Thurston are waiting until the last minute to hand their ballots in-

This means either -

1- terrible turn out in an extremely liberal area
2- conservatives like me don't want KCE to know how we are voting until 2 days after the election.

6. My prediction is that the Democrats may pick up a few in the house if they are lucky, but not nearly enough to control congress. The Senate will stay GOP. Nutroots will have once again be shown to have shot their wad for nothing. They will find that influencing adults as opposed to foul mouthed punks from Philly is a not a thing done with bombastic writing and potty words but reason and logic. They of course will think up new and even better conspiracy theories as to why they lost - voters too stupid, rigged voting machines etc.

7. #4 Richard,

Someone needs to investigate the website you've mentioned. If our tax dollars are being spent to promote this type of garbage, then the person(s) responsible need to be terminated! The counts were from 11/6/06 @ 1:54PM. I thought votes couldn't be counted much less posted until the polls were closed. This is WRONG!!!!

But then again, look who controlls the KCR&E department, Dumocrats!

PS-Michelle-

Ross Marzolf IS NOT the KCGOP Chairman, he's the Executive Director. Michael Young is the chairman. But you are right, Ross a very intelligent man who has a passion for politics and what's right. Your daughter was lucky to have an enlightening opinion presented in a classroom and hopefully her teacher didn't mess with everyone's mind after he left.

8. I looked at the site and all I see are blank results. Did this change recently?

Posted by: pbj on November 7, 2006 09:25 AM
9. Polling places closed due to flooding? Gosh, in-person voting isn't so perfect, is it?

10. SexyMama, thanks for the correction. and no, the teacher didn't screw everything up after Marzolf left. In fact, he is teaching a super class and the kids are really enjoying the class. Right now, he's having the kids "play congress" and pass a bill on immigration. He had the kids take a test on their beliefs and assigned them to parties based on their answers on this little quiz. Then he told them to debate and pass a bill for immigration. My daughter is speaker of the house right now, moderating all the goings-on of the bill-debating activity!

11. I thought it was illegal for political candidates to advertise and harass people on Election Day. Oh my, that's what I told my husband, so he's gonna be pissed if that's not true!

I guess we have to wait for the sigh of relief until tomorrow.
