Update on Darcy Burner mailer with unauthorized Michael Yon photo

Update to last night's post on the Washington Democrats Darcy Burner mailer that misappropriated Michael Yon's photograph of the American soldier carrying the Iraqi girl.

I spoke with Yon's attorney/spokesman John Mason, who confirmed that Yon did not authorize the photograph to be used in the mailer. Yon is travelling and a statement will be forthcoming.

One would have thought that after the TVW screw-up, the Darcy Burner Democrats would be more careful about such things.

UPDATE: Postman has more:

"It's a copyright infringement, it's a legal matter," D.C. attorney John Mason told me ... Mason said that Yon turned down a request from the Republican Party to use it in campaign literature this year.

"Mike's not a political guy. Mike does not want the photo used for any message. He wants it to stand alone."

1. As I have stated before, you would think that a former law student would understand at a minimum the basics of coyright infringement.

2. TrueSoldier - You forget, she wasn't going to law school to learn about the law, she was going to learn about how they make laws - or at least that was the reason she gave at the beginning of all this. Of course, the fact that three hours on the internet would teach her more about how laws are made than a full year of law school would is not germain to this discussion ...

3. Yet another example of a very rookie mistake. That anyone is taking Burner's campaign seriously is a wonder. Even the Nutroots idiots should be aghast at how many gaffs this cadet has made. It just goes on and on.

When the dust settles next week, it's not going to be pretty for Burner. I'd love to be a fly on the wall during the election post-mortem call with Rahm Emmanuel. Think of how much money the DCCC blew on this Darcy-come-lately. That they could not find a more experienced candidate anywhere in WA to go against Reichert is telling.

4. It's hard to believe she is a real candidate for office. And that it is even close.

5. Kudos for the GOP seeking permission to do same and then RESPECTING his "NO".

6. Incredible!

Burner has done it again?

I understand she's a rookie and all....but....she's going to launch the Dems into some serious litigation!

Oh well.

7. Ya know Palouse, that's exactly what has been running through my mind. She is just so incredibly weak and has made so many blunders (liars resume, etc.) that it's hard to believe she's only 17 or so points behind.

I think her saving grace is that the national machine is really devoted to unseating Richert.
