It's on the P-I

I should read the P-I's group blog, Strange Bedfellows, more often. Joel Connelly posted a worthwhile write-up of Monday's Johnson v. Empty Chair debate that Connelly co-moderated. I regret I didn't see the post earlier.

Today Daniel Lathrop looks at Dave Reichert's and Darcy Burner's latest FEC filings and declares that Reichert is ahead by only $961.58. I think he understated Reichert's lead. Lathrop only counted contributions made directly to "Friends of Dave Reichert". He overlooked Reichert's $271,539.86 share of the receipts from the Bush/Reichert fundraiser (officially collected by an affiliated entity, "Reichert-Washington Victory Committee" and reported here as "Transfers From Other Authorized Committees"). C'mon. If the P-I gives Reichert grief for that Air Force One photo with the President, it should also give Reichert credit for the cash Bush helped raise for his campaign.

1. The fringe left has proven time and again that facts make no difference to them here, or on Postman's blog, for that matter. So does this deliberate oversight or failure on the part of the PI surprise you... or anyone else?

2. Worth Repeating: "The ability to deliver your message before a hostile audience, and to win it over -- or at least win its respect -- is an acid test for an office seeker."

3. Rambling Jacks Restaurant, Olympia at noon Today!. Johnson Vs. Owens in front of room full of lawyers a "public forum". Maybe the "public" should crash the party with Handheld video cameras and actual questions for the "Empty Chair".

4. Conservatives and pro-lifers. Are you really going to vote for a guy who voted to allow the starvation and dehydration of a helpless women permanently brain-damaged to death? All of this over the wishes of her parents who took care of her, paid for her care, and wanted the best for her? Are you really going to vote for Dave Reichert, who would vote to end this life, yet supported the preservation of life of the worst mass murderer in the USA.

What will you say when you stand before the judgement seat of Christ on this vote? How can you ever condemn the horrible things you witness in life when you vote for the very person who brags about doing the thing most abhorrent to you?

A cup of cold water giving in his name is one of the great symbols of Christianity, apparently Dave Reichert never got that lesson in Church. I wonder what Dave Reichert will say when he stands before the judgement seat of Christ and Terri Schavio and her parents are standing in the host.

5. "Are you really going to vote for a guy who voted to allow the starvation and dehydration of a helpless women permanently brain-damaged to death?"

Don't you mean Brian Baird's vote?

Oh... that's right, Baird's a democrat. And when they do something like that, it's somehow "different."

Thanks for asking, John.

6. "John McDonald": I wonder what Dave Reichert will say when he stands before the judgement seat of Christ and Terri Schavio and her parents are standing in the host.

I think he'll say: "Hey, do you know that John McDonald guy who keeps taking your name in vain?" And they'll respond: "Yeah, what an asshat."
