Judicial Integrity (or lack thereof)

I've heard Susan Owens's radio ads claiming she has support from Democrats and Republicans, and is endorsed by newspapers around the state. [ I'll post audio when I can]

But Owens' partisan supporters are so overwhelmingly Democrat that it is misleading to claim that she is non-partisan. Her endorsements page lists 39 elected officials, including 37 Democrats and one, Everett Port Commissioner Connie Niva, who is either Democrat or Communist. Only 1 is Republican (Whitman Prosecutor Denis Tracy). She also lists endorsements from 24 Democrat organizations and 0 Republican organizations.

Steve Johnson, however, has endorsements from both Democrat and Republican statewide officials and legislators and 8 daily newspapers to Owens' 4

And in the hottest district court race, check out Richard Pope's website and his opponent's alleged improprieties.

1. Aah, I think now that some more Republicans are realizing there is a Democrat playbook.

Connie Niva is not a Republican. She was on the State Transportation Commission for six years, I believe.

As for Democrat or Communist, I can't answer that one.

2. Johnson's backers are pretty overwhelmingly Republican as well. Brad Owens and Sonntag are the only D's I recognize, plus a lot of R's.

Where did Richard get that terrible picture of La Salata? He looks like the Family Guy.

3. Tim Sheldon is a Democrat as well.

4. Owens is as partisan as they come. Steve Johnson understands the over-taxation and property rights issues we face in this state. That's where this family's votes are going.

5. Wayne: Sen. Marilyn Rasmussen is a Democrat, as is former Sen. Mark Doumit.

6. Wow. I wouldn't want Richard Pope after me... but the information he presents is definitely relevant. Good luck, Richard!

7. What I love is Owens claim that she is for protecting our rights. So why is it that she sided with the minority in the DOMA case? Did the people not say this is what they wanted? I guess she means she is for protecting certain special intrest groups.

8. Maybe Pope can tell us who Susan Owens and Frank LaSalata voted for in the primary elections...

9. This website is useful for voters looking for
info on job Owens has done thus far, compiled by a Clark County resident. www.marleneadams.com

10. Where are Stephen Johnson's radio/TV spots ? They have been missing - Susan Owens is a judicial activist through and through, although she seems mainstream in an area like this with a femanized electorate (i.e. Seattle). Did Johnson run out of money or what ? He had better heed the message below;

"Evil occurs when good men do nothing"

11. #2-

I'm getting more of a Louie DePalma/Taxi from the photo of LaSalata.

12. 10. Don't know about radio spots but Stephen Johnson has a load of yard signs on the Eastside. His name is everywhere.

Re: Owens radio spot... anyone who would sign off on such lame piano music in the background deserves to be defeated :-)

13. Looks like Johnson is bought and paid for by the building industry; Rape, Pillage and Plunder Inc. What a guy!

14. "... the building industry; Rape, Pillage and Plunder Inc. "
You're so right, Asclepias. Builders are evil. Let's outlaw buildings and live on sidewalks.

15. OK milkweed, who would you rather be "bought & paid for" by?

Did you have a point (besides the one on top of your head)?

16. Dang, looks like Pope's got my vote. Hold on--gotta grab the phone. Probably another inane political survey...

17. So very typical of the left wingers thought process.
Cry about the homeless, demonize the home builders.

Cry about the unemployed, demonize the companies who are hiring.

Cry about hunger, demonize the food industry.

Their solution is always a bigger helping of the problem.

18. Elaine, don't forget to add:
Cry about disease, demonize the pharmaceutical companies.

Posted by: Stefan Sharkansky on October 17, 2006 08:20 PM
19. Cry "it's for the children", demonize the people who try to ensure the children are born.

Cry about foreign oil dependence, demonize US oil drilling and refineries.

Cry about recycling, demonize wasteful water use.

20. Cry about the enviroment and burn down a house. Cry about evil corporations and riot
Cry about wanting a Choice and not letting anyone else have one.

Elaine that is fun.

22. 12. I hope that the signs offset those blasphemous ads for Susan Owens. Steve Johnson is the great hope for straightening out the WSSC. Owens is a shill for the Democrats and special interests and a review of her judicial decisions show that she disrespects the State Constitution.

I hope the remainder of the state (outside of corrupted King County) votes for Johnson. I am just concerned about the lack of Steve Johnson ads - hope they show up soon !

23. It won't be "former" State Senator Mark Doumit for two more weeks...

Senator Doumit represents a heavily Democrat- and rural- district; State Auditor Sonntag comes from a heavily Democratic family with a long record of public service going back over half a century. Senator Marilyn Rasmussen has represented a rural district in the Legislature for thirty years. That they would endorse Steve Johnson is telling.

24. I'll bet they tore down trees to build Asclepias' house.

Anyway, I have to say, that Pope is one tough bugger! But I guess I'll vote for him again in the general.

25. Elaine and Stefan, how about this semi-related point: The left angrily rails against "rich white guys" while holding out one hand for George Soros to pour millions into their campaigns, and with the other they cast a vote for John Kerry!

Posted by: Michele on October 17, 2006 11:11 PM
26. Postman may not like it (from a censured post), but the building industry comprises just about all of the work force outside of government, schools and airplanes.

Just about every private job and trade is involved in the construction industry. To demonize the building industry means you are demonizing all of us.

Plumbers, electricians, concrete, you name it have owed their success in the past few years from the building industry. And then that translates to cars, attorney, schools, etc. We should be praising the builders instead of demonizing them.

27. Her adds are playing nonstop on the talk radio stations, trying to convince listeners that she shares their values.

It's an amazing display of deception.

29. Haven't heard Owens or Johnson ads yet here in Clark County. Just lots of tv ads for both Cantwell and McGavick as well as ads for Oregon governor and a couple of their initiatives. Also, just a minor correction to the newspaper endorsements, Columbian has endorsed Johnson for the General election now, that voting for Judges site said just the primary.
