Mike McGavick has a relatively new radio ad (the 4th option under "ads" here) up with is worth a listen. The ad hits Congress, and members of both parties, for lack of spending restraint in Washington, DC. It also opposes tax increases (including presumably opposing efforts to keep the Bush tax cuts from being made permanent).
It's an effective ad for several reasons. One, despite the value of the civility theme in an anti-incumbent year, we're at the point in the race where candidates need to be talking about issues. Two, the ad hits on an issue where there is cross-party consensus: federal spending has run amuck. Third, it touches on an issue that stokes the Republican base: protecting the tax cuts which are actually lowering the deficit and stimulating economic growth.
In short: more please.
Posted by Eric Earling at September 13, 2006 09:30 PM | Email ThisOur local newscorps was pulled into the cult of personality politics overnight, mouths agape that McGavick would be so ballsy--I mean, a late afternoon confession on his BLOG?!?!? No conveinent press release emailed to us?!?!? Argh...Argh..Argh...etc.
Well it's time to get away from personalities, and get back to the issues. If we can help McGavick get his ideas out there, then perhaps that will change the discussion.
I think Cantwell's camp doesn't want to match McGavick pound for pound--that would mean articulation of their own, failed positions--and so they are trying to BLOCKADE his message until election day.
What McGavick needs to do is DEBATE Cantwell as many times, and as publicly as possible--televised or other broadcast medium. If he does that effectively, Cantwell is toast.

McGavick playing the nice guy in the middle of the road is just gonna get himself run over.
I did like his ideas about Welfare reform and the pay cut for Congress however...

#1 Comment Eric, thanks for the link to the RoadMap.pdf file
#4 Comment John425, Yes McGavick should play hardball. I have listened to his ads several times while checking the Video quality.
Yes they seem to be feel good, without much
point. Wonder if his campaign manager/advisor is
directing him to use this type of TV ad for King County (as #6 alphabet says, "perfect for the average Seattlunatic")
I thought Mike should make a 5 point contract with
Washington ( like the 1994 10 point contract with America that brought the GOP into control of the
house of Representatives )
Post what you think the 5 points should be!
#5 Comment Ferrous, what is "DH" Democrat Helper?
Maybe you could download, burn a VideoCD, and give to DH.
Anybody know how to setup a Bittorrent? I am trying with Linux and reading documents, but not finding the magic incantation that makes it work.
Test out http://VCD4MIKE.sytes.net:8000 this might work with your bit torrent client. I need someone to try from outside to verify that it is working.
