My endorsements for Supreme Court: John Groen, Stephen Johnson

I mostly concur with Jim below to throw the bums on the Supreme Court out. The two worst incumbents are Gerry Alexander and Susan Owens. I expect challengers John Groen and Senator Stephen Johnson to do a vastly better job defending our civil liberties from government excess than the incumbents will. (Incumbent Tom Chambers has been much better than Alexander and Owens about property rights and open government).

Three reasons to elect John Groen and Stephen Johnson:

1) Alexander and Owens are behind some appalling decisions that have eroded our individual rights. I've posted many entries about these in the past -- Hangartner, Yousoufian, Monorail, Sane Transit, Miller. The list goes on. I'll post a summary tomorrow.

2) Alexander, in particular, has conducted a reprehensible dishonest smear campaign against Groen. In a recent press release, the Alexander campaign described a perfectly legal campaign activity by an independent PAC as follows:

It may be legal, but it is entirely unethical and consistent with Mr. Groen's attempts to avoid compliance with any law he does not like."
I spoke with Alexander's campaign chairman at length yesterday to try to understand the basis for this allegation. There is no basis. It is unjustified. More details tomorrow.

3) Finally, it's about the robber and rapist vote. The Supremes have heard arguments, but have not yet ruled whether to uphold or overturn the lower court decision which allowed certain felons to vote. Until the Supreme Court rules, the lower court ruling stands. Felons who have not yet paid off their debt to society or their victims can now vote for the first time in a statewide election, conveniently when the incumbent justices are up for re-election. Had the court ruled one way or another in time for the primary, the voters could make up their own minds whether the ruling was good law. Instead, the incumbent justices have tacitly re-enfranchised the robbers and rapists.

1. That's who I voted for....that is if my vote counted??? Hmmmmm. I also vote Chambers, mostly because there are too many questions about his opponent...Burrage? And that was through very limited research.

2. Wow Stefan,

What an open minded man you are to accept Chambers into your graces. Can't quite make the full change on the court?
Just info for all of you waffling conservatives.

Chambers believes he is above the law, by fleeing the seen of an accident two months ago.

Ruled in favor of tax money being spent on benefits for homosexual couples. Heinsma vs. Vancouver.

Ruled to allow a non-custodial lesbian couple custody of a child. Sue Ellen ('Mian') Carvin v. Page Britain.

Ruled in against the Defense of Marriage Act

Chambers endorsed by National Abortion Rights League, Marriage Equality (Gay Marriage Group), Unions & Trial Lawyers.

Sounds like a real winner. Don't let your greed blind your morals.

3. The Olympia star chamber is long overdue for a much needed overhaul.

Very interesting to see the new TV ad denouncing Alexander for his support of Bobbe .22 Bridge. Won't be long until the moonbats start pulling their hair out screaming "MEAN SPIRITED!" for using the drunk driving card in an election. What goes around comes around.

4. This was helpful. I have trouble making sense of the judicial races at the local level.

Keep your endorsements (and the underlying reasons) coming. Since I do not spend much time on local politics, I find them valuable.

5. I hear there's going to be a TV interview with Burrage Wednesday on one of the local stations (I forget whether it was to be KIRO or KOMO). Should be interesting.

Also, KCGOP has issued an endorsement of Jeanette.

7. One thing folks should keep in mind about the current group on the Supreme Court is that they are biased in favor of governments. Moreover, they act in furtherance of that bias by ignoring the actual legal claims raised by citizens challenging government overreaching.

In a lawsuit challenging two local taxes that was decided last year, these justices abused their position of authority. The majority opinion contains a handful of spurious legal arguments that were attributed to the appellants in order to engineer a win for the governments. Instead of addressing the actual legal arguments raised against these taxes, the majority made up weak claims and falsely stated the appellants made those claims. It did this to give an unjustified victory to Sound Transit and Seattle Monorail Project.

Some details of this can be found here:
http://soundpolitics.com/public/2006/09/alexander_owens_and_chambers_a.html

This lot refused to vindicate the rights of citizens because that would have meant refunds of some of the car tab taxes these governments had collected.

8. Interesting:

I check this site out at around 5:30p, and there is a vigorous conversation going on with many posters criticizing your choices and your logic.

Two hours later, and all those critical posts are gone.

Really says something about the kind of person you would support as a Judge, when you think of it.

Really says a lot about you, when you think about it.

9. Correction to my previous -- The interview will be on KIRO radio. Not sure of the time. Also, she has agreed to a phone interview with KUOW.

10. JDB@8 -- I think you were looking at Jeff Miller's post (which still has all the posts from Ivan et al), and was originally posted early enough to actually have "vigorous conversation" going on by 5:30....

(nice try)

You are right. I got the threads mixed up. I apologize and retract my previous comment.

13. Alexander, OWens and chambers are corrupt beyond redemption; and I will prove it in court.

14. And one might also keep in mind how they voted on the issue of taking our land from us through imminent domain:

Those who voted to take our land (Bye Bye):

Authored by Mary Fairhurst
Concurring: Barbara A. Madsen
Bobbe J Bridge
Charles W. Johnson
Susan Owens

And those who dissented from taking our land (Good):

Dissenting: James Johnson
Gerry L Alexander
Richard B. Sanders
Tom Chambers

15. Don't you think Janette Burrage is more apt to vote with Richard Sanders, John Groan and Stephen Johnson, than not?

16. I liked the ad that described Alexander as negligent about crime - as demonstrated by letting convicted murderers out on the street again. This ad cannot play enough. That should be enough to get any law bidding citizen outraged and by this action, Alexander has shown to be an endangerment to society - get rid of him !

Vote John Groen !
