It's fair to say President Bush has got some issues. He needs to figure out rather quickly a better and tougher Iraq strategy than "Stay The Course," and his laissez-faire attitude toward spending bloat under the GOP-led Congress is less than impressive, to put it nicely.
But whenever it seems things look bleak for Bush and the GOP nationally, some numbskull or another has a Bush Derangement Disorder episode in public that can't but help leave swing voters deeply troubled with the vapidity of Democrats and progressives, who fatally offer no real alternative to all that they demonize. Yesterday, as Jim noted, it was Seattle-ite Neal Starkman in a P-I op-ed, reprising his infamous "stupidity" meme with respect to voters who do not share The Left's outrage at Bush and his policies. Now comes news of a brilliant "Yale Shmale" campaign from Lakehead University in Ontario, no less, slamming Bush's education, ethics and performance in a pathetic bid to win new students. They're so unsure it'll work, however, they're also giving away video games and a Smart Car lease. Combined with specious and more localized political gamesmanship from their opponents, such recurrent, variegated and uncivil anti-GOP moonbattery could in the end mean a point or two more for GOP incumbents like U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert (R-WA), U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT), and Washington GOP Senate contender Mike McGavick. Not to mention a bit more still for the GOP presidential nominee, whomsoever that may be. At any rate, Seattle Central Community College, which was Time Magazine's 2001 Community College Of The Year, must be steamed they didn't beat Shmakehead U. to the punch.
Posted by Matt Rosenberg at August 29, 2006 06:36 PM | Email ThisYears ago, just after I figured out that Democrats shared nothing of my values, I went on a right wing rant against the left to most anybody who would listen. They didn't. BUT by being measured, moderate and patient I have turned more to the policies of conservatism than any amount of ranting could do.
Look at the lefty ranters that drop by here. No facts or reasoned argument. Just screamed word bites right from the latest DNC press release. We've all heard it a thousand times. "killing innocents for profit." "war for oil." etc. etc. Nobody believes it but them. It's made logical to them by that famous liberal feedback loop.
But don't get me started . . .
However as Maria Cantwell and Queen Christine have shown us, when campaigning, claim to be working hard at reducing taxes on the citizens of their state.
That is until they are elected. Then they are on the royal take.
Posted by: GS on August 29, 2006 09:42 PM"The Pew Research Center's annual poll on religion and politics, released last week, shows that while 85 percent of voters say religion is important to them, only 26 percent of Americans think the Democratic Party is "friendly" to religion. That's down from 40 percent in the summer of 2004 and 42 percent the year before that--in other words, a 16-point plunge over three years. "
" Even the party's own may see talk of faith as pandering. Two years ago, half of Democrats thought that their party was friendly to religion. Now that number has dropped to 39.6 percent, with a 12-point decline among respondents who aren't affiliated with a religious tradition. These Democrats view the party's interest in talking to religious voters as a sure betrayal of the party's principles. "
" Another big drop--14 points in two years--surfaced in the percentage of black Protestants who see Democrats as religion-friendly. That's a sure sign that despite their outreach efforts in black churches, Democrats aren't necessarily listening to the folks in the pews. African-Americans may still be the most reliably Democratic constituency, but they are far more socially and theologically conservative than gauzy references to the bygone civil rights era reveal. And they're still not finding a lot of room to talk about those views in the party. "
" Finally, Catholic voters are increasingly skeptical. Support for Democrats' approach to religion dropped by 10 points among Catholic Democrats, 16 points among Catholic Independents, and 25 points among Catholic Republicans, including a 9-point decline just in the last year. As the party hemorrhages Catholic support at the polls,... "
Posted by: howcanyoubePROUDtobeanASS on August 29, 2006 09:49 PM1. The Iraq war is over. It ended with the toppling of the Saddam government. It's now a peacekeeper operation engulfed in the real war; the war against Islamic Fascism.
2. Democrats can stop anything they want in the United States Senate by refusing to allow cloture, a Senate rule that requires 60 votes to end debate on any bill before a final vote can be taken. There are 55 Republicans, 5 short of controlling the Senate, with a handful of Liberal Republicans that futher increase the difficulty in winning cloture.
Like Reagan in the 80's, I suspect that much of the "bloat" described is the cost surrendered by Bush in exchange for acquiring the Defense and Homeland Security funding that Democrats would rather abandon if given the opportunity?

Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 29, 2006 10:24 PMIt's one thing for a columnist to write that stuff. That's all she is. A columnist who writes to piss you guys off (And she does it well doesn't she?). One thing is sure, I've never seen her at a GOP function.
BUT when you have leading lights of the Demorat party (Teddy, Dean-O, etc.) reciting Michael Moore's fabrications and giving him a prominent seat at the DNC convention, YOU guys have a problem. Your party is WAY out of the mainstream and is embracing those that are also WAY out of the mainstream. Just look at moveon.org. They are so deep into the DNC they're fighting for control and are winning. Read what's happening over there. Mainstream? I don't think so.
Once again, you guys are all caught up in that liberal feed back loop and can't stop. Looks good in there doesn't it? Don't peek outside though. You might not like what you see.
The US electorate is slowly maturing. More of us are educated in liberal values (the Bill of Rights, due process, the Establishment Clause, war as last resort).
Of course, a jihad is a jihad (regardless of the dead, irrelevent prophet) so it is difficult to shake thousands of years of dogma.
There IS hope for the political right - education and reality.

Yep. Keep repeating the same slogans long enough and they magically become real. The pseudo-intellectual equivalent of endlessly repeating, "I do believe in fairies!"

This means that Matt Rosenberg is calling 64 percent of all Americans moonbats. I guess that's fine for your little ever-shrinking right-wing cult. After all, it's classic cult behavior for you to keep propping yourselves up, but the rest of the citizenry isn't buying what you're selling.
Posted by: ivan on August 30, 2006 09:04 AMWhich would certainly explain the majority in the US House of Representatives, the majority in the US Senate, the White House, a conservative SCOTUS and the majority of the nation's governors, right? That's quite a cult.
Contrary to what you 'think' Ivan, if Bush were to embrace actual conservative philosophies and ideals, his numbers would be between 51 and 60 percent. In fact, if he got tough on illegal immigration alone, his numbers would dwart anybody on your side of the aisle.
Tell me again what the Democrats' plan is. We hate Bush and the GOP sucks so vote for us? Yep. That's a winner. You notice it didn't work so well for the GOP against Clinton, so why do you think it's going to work now?

Be competent. About what? Be specific, please.
Fight corruption? Okaaay. Are you going to start with your own first or do crooks like William Jefferson and Alan Mollohan get a pass?
See? You have no plan. Your congressional leadership is supposedly talking about a 'plan' to come out after Labor Day, but they still haven't decided on what that plan will be or if there's even any internal support for it.
You simply cannot be "I'm not the other guy" and expect to win.
(whistle) Ivan? What's your plan, buddy?

My older brother was a lifetime democrat until I turned him on to www.democraticunderground.com. He voted for Bush (and republicans) for the first time ever during the last Presidential election cycle, and this is after DECADES of debates with him on the whole repubican versus democrats subject. I could never sway him, but the leftie loonies repulsed him.

Organized labor--from unionfacts.com we find:
Government employees are more than four times likelier to be unionized than their private-sector counterparts. Taxpayer-funded jobs are the only sector of the economy where unions have consistently grown for several years. And taxpayers are left with the check, rung up by government employee union officials and the politicians all too eager to appease them.""""
No Democrat politician votes against public unions, because the unions make the contributions.
Private union membership is down, down, down.
I submit that proves the majority view of unions.
Hate for America is found in John Kerry's speech
on 22 Apr 1971 in front of the Senate Subcommittee on Foreign Relations: """""""""""" I have been to Paris. That action is covered under the US Constitution. Article III Section III.
But Moonbats are indeed the GOP's best friends. I'm continualy impressed by the bile that comes from people like David Goldstein. It's very juvenile. It's impossible for Goldstein to appear to the average Democrat as a credible voice when he then goes and writes the things he does on his blog. To me, that's the definition of a moonbat. Someone who wants to appear as a credible political voice, but then goes and displays some kind of completely unhinged and socially unacceptable behavior.
Want another example? I've got a relaitve that is absolutely convinced that George Bush purposely blew up the World Trade Center Towers on 9/11. That's a moonbat. Despite rigorous and highly detailed engineering studies and infomration that meticulously debunks the 9/11 myths, this person still believes that the towers were purposely destroyed. An unwillingness to be even flinch in the face of reason. That's another defition of a moonbat.
Again, I do not believe that most Democrats are moonbats. Certainly my above mentioned friends would never ever agree to the crazy 9/11 myths about the towers. But, Matt is right. There's a willingness amongst a relatively large and vocal portion of the left, to go completely off the deep end into profanity, or mythology or whatever, as long as it's irrational. And the moonbat Left gets a large amount of media coverage to air their unhinged views, assuring that a lot of people get to compare their antics with those of most normal and generally rational people. These moonbats are definitely impacting the Democrats in a very negative way. They are constantly opening the door to quick marginialization and affiliation with lunacy for mainstream Democrats.
You can't buy this kind of marketing and support. God love moonbats. I hope they keep it up.

Along with "Blacks can't swim" and "Macaca," Sen. Burns' recent comments are definately going to benefit democratic campaigns nation-wide by driving moderates away from the GOP.
So yes, this phenomenon takes place on both the left and the right. Clearly, the only people qualified to judge which side is worse are genuine swing voters. We'll see what they decide in November.
Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 31, 2006 12:48 PMOr Charlie, it could have the opposite effect. Depends on how sick swing voters are of political correctness and it's one-sided enforcement by the leftie media.
