An update on the Secretary of State's response to the ruling which prohibits the state from verifying the identification of a voter registration applicant --
As I reported earlier this month, the judge issued his fraud-friendly injunction because of the "irreparable harm" he believed was caused to two voters who claimed the state had denied them their right to vote. (I showed this was bogus -- both voters were ineligible to vote anyway because of where they lived).
* The Secretary of State has now filed a motion to update the record showing that these voters were not denied the right to vote by the state (see Reed's Motion and declaration from Clark County election official)
* In the meantime, the state is still enjoined from rejecting registrations whose identifying information does not match other government records, but mail-ballot voters with non-matching registration information will be required to present a copy of their ID before their vote can count (see new WAC rules)

Posted by: swatter on August 29, 2006 01:21 PMhow about over 90+ 'emergency' bills passed? in-state tuition & other benefits to illegal aliens? 20 years of failing audits from Transportation Dept? union strangling business like recent concrete strike? the regressive B&O tax? crushing L&I micro-rules? King County land grabs reminiscent of Kelo?
who the hell do you think is the REAL victim?
Posted by: Jimmie-howya-doin on August 29, 2006 03:21 PMSilly, heartless conservative, you just don't understand. "Irreparable harm" is the stress of having to respond to a letter informing you that you left half the blanks on your voter registration blank, and would you please call the elections office to straighten this out? And you only have 45 short days to do that or else you'll have to fill out another registration card.
Richard,
Given that this lawsuit was filed by the Brennan Center, and given that it was Brennan himself who was credited with originating the phrase, "chilling effect," I'd feel cheated of my daily dose of Liberal Predictability if they didn't make that very argument.
TB--what I've noticed about illegal aliens, recent immigrants, bums and "no-speekee-eenglish" types is that they damn sure know how to fill out the charity, food assistance and housing assistance aid forms perfectly & to a tee; somehow they're all dialed-in on that stuff yet bitch about voting 'disenfranchisement', lack of diversity and harm;
the same 'helpers' helping them to jump on the freebie wagon can support them, not me--and--help the LEGAL ones vote;
