Heat from the Left for Darcy Burner's 1st Ad

I was left unimpressed by Darcy Burner's 1st ad for this campaign season. It seems someone on the other side of the aisle agrees. Matt Stoller at MyDD complains at length here, essentially wanting a harder edge to the Burner message, bashing Bush and the Iraq war. I don't know if I agree that's the best tactic for a bio ad out of the gate, but it certainly symbolizes what the netroots will be demanding from their candidates this year...and that can only serve to help Republicans.

1. As I recently wrote on the Public Blog, Burner has to be one of the most underwhelming candidates the Democrats have fielded in recent years.

If you want to sit through 9 minutes of the most un-inpsiring, sullen dribble from Democrats, watch Darcy try to rally the troops at the recent DNC convention.

2. If you read through the comments at MYDD, you find quite an interesting discussion. Toward the end, darcy's campaign manager weighs in. What this indicates is that the burner campaign is heavily influenced by netroots, partly because this is where her money is coming from.

The netroots want negativity. It will be interesting to see if the campaign toes the line. More interesting is whether it will work. Doesn't seem to have been a winner for Lamont.

3. I love that still photo on Stoller's blog from Burner's campaign ad.

Across her picture:

Darcy Burner

Improve Education

Same old same old. "Improve Education", "protect Social Security", "affordable health care", blah, blah, blah.

Expect Bush bashing in her next ad. Don't expect any substance as to what Burner or any other Democratic candidate will actually do.

5. Interesting seeing the innerworkings of the left. They seem to think everyone agrees with their perspective.

I wonder if the influence of the extreme left would have such a stranglehold on the Democrat party if Dean was not chariman?

7. I'm not sure which analogy would apply more here...
But if you give these folks enough rope, they'll certainly hang themselves with it.
Looks like they'll find a way to be hoisted with their own petard.

9. Blah--LOL!
Burner's first ad was flawed, but I won't say why. don't want to help the campaign.

10. The more I learn about Darcy Burnher the more I dislike her as a politician! She should go back to Microsoft or find something she would be good at! She is wasting her time and Democrats money :) Which I like!

That is not someone I would want representing me, but I don't live in the 8th!

Again she was running for Congress starting last year.......against a freshman congressman??? With very little credible expierence! That against an officer with more than 30 years at the job serving the public!

IMHO Mrs. Burner will do anything to get the job and this campaign will get ugly not because of the Netroots or outside pressure, but because the only thing she gives a S@#T about is her stature!
