Israeli Flag Prompts Tacoma Vandalism & Cross-Burning

Paul Sand of the Tacoma News Tribune reports today that the Israeli flag flying with an American flag outside the home of Rebecca and Keith Yale of Northeast Tacoma, has prompted malicious harrassment.

Monday night, a rock labelled "Jew" broke one of their windows (left), calling attention to a burning cross in their yard.

Several days earlier Rebecca was dealt an anti-Semitic slur and spit at by a passenger in a passing vehicle as she retrieved her mail. The couple's son is a veteran wounded in Iraq.

I'd like to report this is the first time recently that the Israeli flag has sparked ugliness in Puget Sound. But I can't.

1. When I saw this disgrace reported last night on TV news I couldn't help but remember the guy in Shoreline that has his house similarly trashed because he had pro-Bush and pro troop signs prominently displayed.

Watch the media try to blame the "religious right" for this. I suspect the cross burning was done as a deliberate diversion.

2. So, so sad. We are fighting a War on Terrorism with only one leg. We can't possibly attack the problem- Iran- with the left on opposite pages. The world better wake up quickly.

Matt, my initial reaction is why would someone fly the flag of Israel unless they wanted to invite some reaction and why wouldn't they just want to get along?

But, I quickly realized my type of thinking was the reason we are in this situation anyway. Bury our heads in the sand (Buchanan and his wing of the Democratic party- isolationism) is not going to help. We need to confront the enemy peacefully as the brave soul did. On second thought, then, kudos to Rebecca and family.

4. It never ceases to amaze me how much anti-Semitism is alive and well in the good ol' U.S. or A in the 21st century. When I recently expressed this thought to my liberal, Air America listening neighbor, his response was: "At the risk of sounding like I'm an anti-Semite, they do bring a lot of it on themselves." I was struck speechless. I really did think at one time, not to many years ago, that our generation (as opposed to our fathers, the WWII generation) had sidestepped that kind of stupidity. Sadly not.

I will also say this: Although not an exclusive purview of the left (can't forget those nice guys in Idee-ho), most of the Jewish hate that I see & hear comes from the leftists among us.

It seems to me that somebody with a proper education wouldn't be susceptible to it. "Proper" being the operative.

5. I'm just suprised that the Tacoma P.D. didn't immediately send officers to protect the Mosques immediately after they got this report.

7. What a strange web we weave.

The Jews vote Democrat, but it is the Democrats that want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

Yes, that was a broad brush, but if you take the Ds view on the War on Terrorism, it isn't that much of a stretch in logic.

11. As a resident of North East Tacoma, I too was appalled at this incident but not surprised.

We live in the 27th, the leftist leaning district in Washington if not the country. Tacoma is welcoming home to the Homeless, Welfare Moms, Meth Labs, Open Prostitution, Pimps, Drug Dealers, Pedophiles, Gangsta's, Raise our Taxes Politicos, Token Black Employment, Viva La Rasa Hugging, Potholed Streets, Broken Bridges, Graffiti Art, Child Molesting Cop (name redacted), LESA 911 Porn Swapping Operators, Child Porn Loving (law rnforcement official, name redacted), Police Chief Brame, Police Chief Javonovitch, New Horizon's Swinger Club Members, Gay Bathhouse and Hotel for 12year old boys across the street from City Hall, Nude Hot Tubing (former city employee, name redacted) with Subordinates on City Time, City Council Members that change Spouses more often than their underwear, all sought after and prized residents for the City of Diversity...ERR...I mean Destiny.

Defend Israel...BLASPHEMY!

Remember, if you dial 911 in Tacoma, they only respond if it is a sexual emergency!!!

12. Did I read that wrong? What parallels with 1938, Libertarian? Anti-semitic violence in 1938 Germany was government-instigated. The beginning of a long downward spiral to unspeakable horror.

The Bush administration (and previous Republican administrations) have been consistent and strong in their support of Israel and it's right to exist. IIRC, the majority of the time the U.S. uses its veto in the UN Security Council is to block anti-Israeli resolutions.

While the Tacoma (and other) incidents are sad, they are by no means common, much less committed at government behest.

What parallels?

13. The Dems of today, with their kissing up to Islamists and their disdain for Israel and any Jewish person who doesn't toe the liberal line 100% would probably be better classifed as anti-Semicrats (credit to Rush Limbaugh for the term).

14. G Jiggy,

You should have said back "At the risk of sounding racist, blacks do bring a lot of it on themselves", and see if his understanding for that kind of statement holds up.

Another shining example of tolerance from the left!

The Pierce County Sheriff in question was convicted and removed from office, why are you blocking his name???

17. Stephan...

"The City Official" was "retired" with a $109,000 a year pension and the Hot Tube incident came out in court documents...why redact his name???

19. Ah, yes...northeast Tacoma--home of million dollar (and more) houses, an old private school, lots of rich people who love their quiet, tree-lined "diverse" neighborhoods, and a whole lot of Maria Cantwell signs.
Of course, there is NO WAY that *anybody* in NE Tacoma would have thrown that rock...nope, musta been a yahoo from out in Puyallup, or Lakewood.
All those folks in the Northeast are too progressive, too enlightened, and too tolerant to do such things. Why, they probably even think that they aren't terrorist targets! (unless, of course, they're one of those violent, genocidal, baby-killing Joooos....)

20. hoplophile:

I'm mainly referring to the "peace at any price" mentality in the West, coupled with a striking rise in the apparent acceptability of anti-Semitism.

21. pacific at 11: exactly--I stand with the victim. They need 'nosy' (concerned) neighbors (or volunteers) who watch & record.

Then, a touch of Charles Bronson neighborhood policing would suit the perps. Take the perps 'aside' BEFORE the police come. "well...he/she must have slipped on a bar of soap..!"

22. OK, Libertarian. Insofar as modern-day western Europe is concerned, you're spot on. I was looking at it from a Western Washington perspective.

I could tell you stories about overt anti-semitism in modern-day Chermany. Who woulda thunk it 60 years after the Holacaust?

Posted by: Hoplophile on August 16, 2006 02:27 PM
23. I'm going to admit my ignorance and state that I don't understand anti-Semitism in modern day. What have Jews done to earn this continuing hostility? How can a world condemn and blame a religion so harshly and broadly that even the harrassment and killing of their children is excused as understandable frustration with Israel in particular and Jews in general. How does that fly with our enlightened society?

24. Elaine, welcome to the new adult education system... the internet. Keep on reading, you will soon understand modern politics. Somewhere between the daily kos and little green footballs, with a smathering of frontpage mag and jihad watch, you will catch on. It's amazing. It's corrupt. It's insane. And, also read the Bible. The old testament prophecies are coming to pass before our eyes. I know many deny this, but it's happening anyway. We're in for quite a ride.

25. LJM, your not the only one watching in amazement. You must be a good non-church-going, Bible-reading Christian. Wait, can I say "Christian" on the internet?

26. my solution to this & graffiti & vandalism in general--

a vice, a workbench & a garage; perp gets caught red-handed; taken to neighborhood garage (before police come); hand/fingers in vice; turn, turn, turn till whine & crack & pop; tossed back in street; end of problem; cheaper and more effective than 'community service' picking weeds;

sounds medeival, but after you've cleaned up your own glass and damage, you will agree--

27. #2 above (Swatter) says "We need to confront the enemy peacefully as the brave soul did."
That sort of response didn't work out too well for the European Jews in the 1930's. A somewhat more vigorous response may be necessary. Hint - one of the Third Reich's first laws was registration of personal firearms - followed of course by registration of Jews, and then confiscation, followed by extermination. We can learn from history - or repeat it.
