The Columbus Dispatch reports:
Workers paid by [liberal Democrat voter registration group ACORN] to register voters in Franklin County [Ohio] have turned in more than 500 forms with nonexistent addresses and potentially fake signatures, elections officials said yesterday ... Elections workers verifying new-voter forms discovered signatures with the same handwriting, addresses that were for vacant lots and incorrect information for voters who already were registeredACORN was one of the plaintiffs in the federal lawsuit which struck down Washington state's ability to toss out fraudulent voter registration forms. (As I noted here and here the ruling was itself based on fictitious voter information).
ACORN has been implicated in voter registration fraud in several states, including Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at August 13, 2006 11:23 AM | Email ThisACORN's accomplishments include successful campaigns for better housing, schools, neighborhood safety, health care, job conditions, and more.
From their web page:
ACORN members participate in local meetings and actively work on campaigns, elect leadership from the neighborhood level up, and pay the organization's core expenses through membership dues and grassroots fundraisers.
ACORN has constantly challenged the traditional notions of what a community organization is, and its family of organizations includes two radio stations, a voter registration network, a housing corporation, and several publications.
Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 13, 2006 11:44 AMOn Tuesday, Aug. 8, ACORN members and partners in Ohio and Missouri turned in a record number of signatures to put the minimum wage amendment on the November ballot in those states.
Ohioans for a Fair Minimum Wage marched in with 16 boxes filed with 765,000 signatures – double the amount required and the most signatures ever turned in for a ballot initiative in Ohio’s history -- for the Secretary of State to certify.
Meanwhlie, the Missouri minimum wage ballot initiative was officially certified. Give Missourians a Raise gathered more than 150,000 signatures – 42,572 (45.6 percent) more than required -- in six congressional districts throughout the state to allow voters to decide in November.
The Ohio ballot initiative seeks to amend the Ohio Constitution to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.85 per hour, beginning in January 2007.
Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 13, 2006 11:48 AMI can hear them now: "we're not socialists, we're community activists".
Shocking, shocking that these people would participate in voter fraud.

Billy when you say that registering voters = socialism you are all the way out of the mainstream. Have fun in wingnut land!

People have stopped trusting republicans to run fair elections.
Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 13, 2006 12:06 PMBe careful what you ask for ACORN-heads - you might just get it (and once you do, there's no going back)...
Posted by: alphabet soup on August 13, 2006 01:31 PMACORN Socialists. To them, this is all just a typical day at the office. Fake signatures, vacant lots, same handwriting, non-existent addresses. Why act surprised? This is just the Democrat entitlement mentality in action.
The ends justify the means. Any and all activities to increase the Dem vote are justified in their eyes, legal or legal. As long as they are fighting the good (illegal) fight against "Neocon Wingnut Oppression," they feel all warm and fuzzy.
I heard someone once say something like, "conservatives understand liberalism, but liberals do not understand conservatisim"
A general statement to be sure, but I believe there is a lot of truth to it.
Posted by: Bill Cruchon on August 13, 2006 02:33 PMThey did this in FL in 2004 through their local affiliate Floridians For All, and copy of the campaign plan, interestingly enough, talked quite a bit about increasing Democrat turnout, and how an initiative campaign -- such as to increase minimum wage -- would be just the thing for that.
Posted by: TB on August 13, 2006 03:40 PMYou missed a BIG ACORN connection. Chad Statton, the fellow who Democrats in Ohio paid with crack cocaine to falsify voter registratgions, was hired by ACORN.
Posted by: pbj on August 13, 2006 05:53 PMBINGO!!!
The infamous George Soros is indeed the founder and chief funder of ACORN. David Horowitz details ACORN in his new book, "Shadow Party."
Posted by: concerned on August 14, 2006 07:59 AMReminds of a union story I read this year where the union had hired people to picket a business for not paying the kind of benefits the union thought they should be paying.
BUT GUESS WHAT?? The union wasn't paying the sign=holders any benefits! And with a straight face, too! It always pays to question what these people are doing. This kind of thing happens far too often.
