Karl Swenson says that Darcy Burner's TV ad falsely plants the impression that she is an "Air Force Veteran".
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at August 11, 2006 10:38 AM | Email ThisReichert inflates his resume as well.
He is no conservative as he tries to protray himself as.
Posted by: Sam on August 11, 2006 11:01 AMSo it's okay for Darcy Burner to lie because Dave Reichert portrays himself as a Conservative?
Just checking your logic here......
Do you tell your kids that it's okay to lie?
Posted by: Larry on August 11, 2006 11:06 AMRemember the issue is not just what it says, it is the contrast between the voiceover and the pop up caption.
Way to go sam~I~am!
Posted by: alphabet soup on August 11, 2006 11:14 AMIn her ad, she talks about "keeping our promises" to our troops and veterans. How about the promise that, once we put our troops in harm's way, we give them everything and every bit of support they need to succeed in their mission?
Posted by: SouthernRoots on August 11, 2006 11:19 AMConservative is a subjective term, Air force Veteran is not.
Posted by: kevin on August 11, 2006 11:27 AMIf I ran for office, I suppose I could get away with "professionally acclaimed engineer" fading in just as a shot of MY dad faded into the background, eh?
I guess the question to ask is; would you allow that bit to run in your ad if YOU were the candidate?
Falsely claiming to be a veteran is beneath contempt. And in some cases, it's a crime.
Posted by: Dan on August 11, 2006 12:04 PMIs the politician just talking the talk without walking the walk?
No, it's not subjective. Not at all.
Posted by: Sue on August 11, 2006 12:35 PMWatching the video thrice, she does play up the whole "army brat" issue which has been one of the three key components to her campaign since its inception.
I think some of the confusion comes from the fact that she is pictured twice in (I'm assuming) her Junior ROTC uniform. I'll let you all debate if this confusion was intentional or not.
The main theme of the advertisement I got was "I'm Darcy Burner...Perhaps you have heard of me?"
Posted by: Reporterward on August 11, 2006 12:42 PMThe ad and her web page state "a successful career at Microsoft". The word "career" would give me the impression that she had spent a considerable amount of time there.
I was born on a Navy base. My father and Uncle are Vietnam vets. My brother is a Navy vet. My brother-in-law is an Air Force veteran. I grew up around military bases. Went to public schools. Went to college. Worked at a single company for over 20 years (is that a career?). My sister-in-law worked at Microsoft for more than ten years. I've had involvement in my community.
It is a rather simple ad that doesn't really say what qualifies her for the position she seeks.
Posted by: SouthernRoots on August 11, 2006 12:44 PMWatching the video thrice
Careful there! If we all did that, by next week she'd have 800,000 views and then conclude she has 123% support in the 8th district, and the MSM will trumpet that she has the 8th - and a chunk of the 4th distict as well - all sewn up...
>55 percent Reichert.
Posted by: jimg on August 11, 2006 01:47 PMDave Reichert doesn't seem to know anything about the war:
"I put my trust in the President."
Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 11, 2006 04:02 PMThe Bush Administration plans to underfund the VA by $6 Billion for the next five years.
Meanwhile Democrats are planning to do three things: repeal the Disabled Veterans Tax, seek to fully fund veterans' health care and pass a GI Bill for the 21st century.
Thousands of vets will vote for Darcy Burner because she grew up on bases and has dealt with their issues her entire life.
Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 11, 2006 04:11 PMAnd we know this how?
I have been hearing this crap for years now, how he cut funding to the VA, and yet today the VA has the highest level of funding in its history.
Either pony up some hard references to back this up, or go peddle your lies elsewhere.

This is about as weak as the little tempest in the teapot surrounding the GW Bush ad in the 2004 election that showed the word "rats" for a split second when a new photo was overlayed on the word "Democrats."
Look at the picture in the ad. Is the little girl supposed to be an air force veteran? No, it's her DAD that's the veteran...
Much ado about nothing.
From now on candidates should stick to wild distortions. Reichart should claim to have won a Nobel Prize in economics.
Posted by: Sstarr on August 11, 2006 04:29 PMVA operates the largest health care system in the country, providing care to about five million veterans at more than 800 facilities. But budget constraints over the years threaten to undermine the whole system. In fiscal 2006, for example, facilities in half of 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks reported budget shortfalls, some as high as $30-40 million.
What about that is hard to understand?
At VA, budget shortfalls mean fewer healthcare workers to care for veterans, longer working hours for employees, longer waiting time for veterans to receive services, delayed facility construction and repairs, and closing of facilities. A VA hospital in Alaska, for example, had to turn away more than 600 veterans last year. Waiting lists for veterans to access care are as high as 1,600 in Boise and 700 in Minneapolis. It takes six to eight months for veterans in Central Texas to get specialty care. Veterans are not the only ones who suffer. VA workers are pressured to work prolonged overtime, causing stress and burnout. The VA hospital in Seattle, for example, saw 93 nurses leave the agency last year due to chronic short staffing and pressure to discharge patients sooner. The problem will only get worse because half of the work force in many VA hospitals is eligible to retire in the next few years.

Posted by: Sorry Charlie on August 11, 2006 04:45 PMWhat about that is hard to understand?
Nothing at all. We all know that "budget shortfall" is liberalese for "we wanted a 30% budget increase but only got 20%."
Posted by: Michael on August 11, 2006 08:01 PMThere is something Al Gorish/I invented the Internet about this. Oh, I know what it is, they are both taking credit for someone elses work!
Posted by: Elaine on August 11, 2006 09:01 PMWell since George Bush has felt the need to totally ignore his conservative base due to his fear of what Democrats might think, he'll get to be investigated up the wazzu for the next two years as his base puts those Democrats in office because they are too depressed to vote.
Rep. Darcy Burner (8-WA) is as good as done.
Posted by: John McDonald on August 11, 2006 09:22 PMI don't think this blog has to bring Burner for another month and a half. Let her incoherent and short on substance campaign ads speak for themselves.

One thing I will admit is; it's real difficult for me to keep calm at this exact moment. I try hard to keep the venom out, but I know I fail on this point, so sorry. Right now I'm perfectly incensed at the sell out against Hezbollah. Everytime I turn around this adminstration sinks to new lows. Guys like Reichert are the new typical Republican, I have no idea what he stands for, how he will vote, he loves to run against his base, he brags about spending, he says he is for one thing and does another. He is no liberal, he is no conservative, he is no moderate ... he seems to enjoy position, power, spending, and a cool hair-do. In the end, he'll only end up with the hair-do. I've reached my limit with all these worthless Republicans, I know I'm not the only one.
Posted by: John McDonald on August 11, 2006 11:56 PMFor clarification....
the democrats are better how?
Posted by: karl on August 12, 2006 12:32 AMThe Democrats will be held accountable for what Bush is getting a free pass on, as he shreds conservative's principles and violates common sense because too many people like you are party first, thinking brain cells second.
The Democrats control spending and balance budgets.
The Democrats don't send our men in uniform to jail and threaten them with the death penalty.
The Democrats didn't propose making another 20 million illegals citizens.
The Democrats won't set up a government like the current one in Iraq that has already started their Jew hating.
The Democrats will strengthen the military by adding divisions and going in with overwhelming force.
The Democrats will raise the value of the dollar thus lower gas prices.
The Democrats will run a real emergency response system on a federal level instead of just spending billions on it. Citizens will not be abandoned for a week in the heart of a major american city ... because busses and bottled water aren't available.
Posted by: John McDonald on August 12, 2006 07:37 AMDems would not make illegals legal? so--they would deport them all? don't think so--look at Kennedy amendments to any immig. bill; how does dollar lower gas price? ingoring supply-demand? 'strengthen' military like the Clinton years? abandoned in LA? after warnings and local dufus mayor & governor failures and blaming everyone but selves? remember the rasist 'chocolate' quote by LA mayor? that a Dem virtue? control spending? maybe, but control taxes? not so; Dems won't negotiate w/ terrorists? no?--like all the past attacks on Cole, Khobar Towers, Somalia, WTC1, & Marines in Lebanon?
36 & 37 are noble thoughts & goals; but actual history and actions tell me otherwise if my memory serves me, correct?
Posted by: Jimmie-howya-doin on August 12, 2006 08:22 AMliberal~john, it is obvious that the nuances of politics are way beyond your reasoning abilities. Why don't you go back to buggering small animals and leave the important stuff to the rest of us...
Posted by: alphabet soup on August 12, 2006 09:02 AMSo the Dem's will save us. Just like they did for the people of NAM john. Or do you remember?
After we pulled out the DEM's sold them down the drain and pulled all Mil help and money. 1975 came real fast and how many died john because of the dems john?
Your a fool.
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 12, 2006 09:42 AMWhat is it about liberals that compels them to go as far as John has and set up an entire website masquerading as a disgruntled conservative? Reminds me of the people that call talk radio and lead off with "I voted for Bush twice but..." And then they regurgitate the latest Democratic Party talking points.
Then there are the lefties that claim they are "centrists", "moderates" or my favorite, "mainstream". Makes you wonder why they are ashamed to just simply say who they are and what they believe.
Posted by: Bill Cruchon on August 12, 2006 09:42 AMThe Democrats don't negotiate with terrorists.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh thats funny. One of the mainstays in the democrats protests of Bush's handling of the Iraq war is how he wont negotiate.
You can't trust Bush to kill terrorists
And yet more have been killed under Bush's watch then Clintons....
Nuff said, John is a troll just playing around.
Posted by: karl on August 12, 2006 09:49 AMSo you say the Dem's will help our armed services.
"Really"
So when will they? As a person who has used the VA and helped out there let's start from there.
The VA has never had the best funding but does the best with what it has. Until Bush came along their funding sucked. So did the pay for our guys & gals and shall we talk about life insurance. What was zip from Carter on.
Both Carter and can't keep my ziper up Clinton cut the funding for all armed services and both couldn't of done whis with out the dems being in control. (Congress/Senate)
Charile and John you both know nothing of which you speak of. Buddy I have been there and seen it& lived it!
Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on August 12, 2006 09:55 AMNegotation with Terrorists. George Bush and the Republicans just leaned on Israel to declare a cease fire with the world's #1 Terror Group. This is a fact. George Bush and the Republicans refused to sell Israel cluster bombs. George Bush just equated Israeli civilian deaths to those caused by Hezbollah!!!!! Amazing, Israel is now the moral equivalent of Hezbollah according to Bush. These are the facts not your wet dreams of what you want the R party to be. Hezbollah and Iran just kicked our butts, get ready for the announcement of the Jihad atomic bomb soon, jeez if we can't even defeat there proxy, why would they fear us. Condi Rice really expects FRANCE to protect Isreal from Hezbollah with a live fire ban! Good Lord, this is the country that could not even protect itself from Muslim rioters. A country who would have surrendered to the rioters had they figure out who to surrender too.
Of course the leftist support making the illegals legal as they will get 90% of the vote of these new 15 million citizens. But instead of a Republican president supporting the leftist and splitting the party 1/2 out of loyality, 1/2 going the other way on principle. If a Democrat were in the White House the party would 95% on the same side and fighting for what is right.
George Bush has barely raised defence spending as a percentage of GDP from the Clinton years despite asking them to do so much more. There are wearing out their equipment and reducing their stock piles of weapons. How many new tanks have been built, jeeps (jeez it took years just to armor the one's we had ... compare that to FDR who fought a world war and defeated two superpowers in the same time). The inept Republicans are terrible managers.
Trolling ... NOT ... just really pissed off again and again, granted it must seem like trolling :-). At least Republicans had the terrorism angle up to the time they started setting Islamic Jihad governments. Bushy boy just handed that issue to the Democrats too. Is there anything left to surrender to the Democrats?
Finally, NOTICE how the price of oil did not spike when the Alaska pipeline shut down. Why???? because the supply and demand problem with oil is secondary to the value of the dollar. The dollar has dropped massively since the Republicans won control of everything when Bush took office. The price of gas has risen far less in Austrialia, Canada, and Europe as compared to America where it has skyrocketed. Why??? because our dollar is worth crap. It's a FACT, not a positional statement.
Posted by: John McDonald on August 12, 2006 11:14 AM??? Need I say more?
If Lamont wins (which he won't, but just for sake of argument), american women should start getting sized for a burqa.
Posted by: Me on August 12, 2006 02:47 PMBush Sr. and Clinton significantly cut the military through the bi-partisen base closing committees as part of the drawn down from the close of the cold war.
I was thinking my wife would look more modest in a burka with the little grid in the front of the eyes. #13: Another benefit to being a Muslim Women in American, all the cross walks are already equiped with audio assistance to help them make their way across. In Afghanistan they get around the vision problem with the necessary seeing eye male. We are so Jihad Friendly.
I just got a call from the VA telling me that they are expanding my VA health/dental benefits due to increased funding passed by the REPUBLICAN controlled congress. They have a new program that is fully funded and will allow me to go outside the VA for care. SO tell me again how this is cutting funding by $6 million?
Posted by: TrueSoldier on August 12, 2006 10:27 PMWell at least Liberal Insane John is consistent, he supports Darcy Burner too. Have you seen her latest ad, a picture of Riechert getting off of the plane together with the President and the caption "Enough said". Maybe we should put one together with a picture of Darcy with the caption "Nothing said". Or better yet a sample of Liberal Insane Johns rantings and footnote it as Darcy Burners biggest fan.
Posted by: Smokie on August 12, 2006 10:54 PMNot one word about it being terrorism.

Not one word on calling on the larger Muslim community to condemn it.

What a complete doofus. Please someone read about the Renton project and tell me how this creates 2,000 Jobs. I want to hear your fancy made up stories on Reichert math.
Reichert "If we employed oopma loopa for $1,000 per year and free chocolate, then we would get to 2,000 jobs created for $2M dollars."

Posted by: Smokie on August 13, 2006 11:18 AMBTW: It was the American military - klintoon had nothing to do with it...
How about the highway bill = 47,500 jobs in the 8th district.
With a couple of more million Reichert will have created more jobs in the 8th district, then their are voters in the eight. Now that is a great track record. ... Contrast this with the months and months and dozens of posts on Darcy being an executive or just a manager at Microsoft. Here you have a sitting congressman just making crap up like creating 2,000 with only $2M and no one on soundpolitics has the fairness to call him on it.
Vote Dave Reichert for Oompa Loopa land congress, where workers work for $1,000 a year and free chocolate.
So I thought Marx and Keynes where the ones who believe that government spending creates jobs. Socialist Dave.
Posted by: John McDonald on August 13, 2006 02:50 PMWith Liberal Insane John as supporter, Darcy Burner is doomed. Her campaign doesn't acknowledge him or his Insane rantings because he is "challenged". I hope someone who cares about him gets him the help he truely needs.

OK liberal~john, I freely admit that I have been dogging ya. For a while I was hoping that you would realize what an a$$ you've been. Now that I'm certain that you prefer to be an a$$, it's just too much fun showing you for the dimwit you are.
Personally, I'd pay money to get liberal~john up on a stage with barcy durner....
Posted by: alphabet soup on August 13, 2006 05:14 PMPosting a thought sometime would be interesting.
Still waiting for the someone to come to the defense of Reichert on government spending creates jobs and more specifically how $2M = 2,000 jobs. Clearly it is beyond my limited mental capability to understand this, so please help.
So far the best I can come up with is: ~$200K of spending creates about 1 job in the US, as that is the roughly the size of the economy divided by the number of jobs in the US. Reichert apparently has figured out away to spend $2M and create 2,000 jobs or $1,000 for 1 job. If this is really true, why not spend $4M and create 4,000 or $3 Billion and eliminate unemployment.
Nobel Prize winning economists are waiting for the Reichert Economic Theory which will revolutionize the world economy as we know it ... but when will he publish.
Posted by: John McDonald on August 13, 2006 07:43 PMMeanwhile, besides embellishing her resume, she spouts the standard Leftist talking points about how she disagrees with the votes and bills the Repubs have passed, but says nothing of substance about what she would propose as an alternative or how she would handle the borders. I hope that Reichert makes that an issue because people around here need to get their heads out of the sand and realize that illegal immigration will only get worse, unless something is done now before it is too late.
Posted by: KS on August 13, 2006 08:10 PMI am still looking forward to that link to Liberal Insane John's website from the Burner campaign, it's obvious they agree on everything. Posted by: Smokie on August 14, 2006 08:55 AMI was very supportive of Stefan's efforts during Rossi's election. I had a page on my website about Sam Reed, which I've taken down for now.
However, the next election cycle is not going to be close so don't worry about King County stealing it. That said King County elections is pathetic and needs a major overhaul.
By the way the Darcy Ad was very good, and did not imply that she was in the air force which she stated very clearly.
