The Economist imitates Sound Politics

This week's The Economist has an article about the woman who is known at Sound Politics as "Mrs. Gregoire" [subscription only]

2. An interesting sidenote to this discussion is the current nationwide manhunt for John Wayne Thompson, a Level 3 sex offender who is suspected in a least one murder in Longview and the disappearance of two other people. One part of the story just doesn't seem to be getting much publicity. In 2002, he was recommended for civil commitment due to his criminal past and history of refusing treatment. However, the Attorney General declined, saying that he didn't appear to meet the criteria of likely to re-offend. But no where have I seen any mention of just WHO was the Attorney General in 2002...yet another disastrous decision by Mrs. Gregoire that will probably be blamed on a subordinate!

3. The Economist is well aware of a number of the public sphere excesses around here. The editorial staffs at both of the JOA partners should take note. Last year The Economist noted the worst transportation planning in the Western Hemisphere was in the Puget Sound Region.

4. Easy there! Gregoire might not have won the election but the Economist refers to *everyone* that way. President Bush is "Mr Bush" in the Economist and German Chancellor Angela Merkel is "Mrs Merkel."

Don't forget to point that out, Shark. It's funny but readers deserve the truth.

5. The real story isn't new taxes coming out of Olympia, the real story is how Olympia set the stage for new local taxes. Look at what the Dems did when they got full control of the legislature and gov's mansion last year. They set up two proxy pseudo-governments (Sound Transit and RTID) as the means to really slam down new taxes. They can sit back in Olympia and say "we only raised taxes a little," but they passed legislation so that IF APPROVED in the off year 2007 general election local governments will nail millions of people with enormous new taxes. ST and RTID are uber-Dem cabals that operate as nothing more nor less than fronts for the Dems that will generate staggering tax revenues they can use as pork for literally generations to come.

6. SUzi--exactly! funny how we are diverted away from her Atty. Gen. 'buck stops here' accomplishments--like that blown court deadline costing us millions; industry workers are fired, tarred & feathered for waaaay less; emergency bill, anyone?
