Axis of Evil (I)

The House of Representatives yesterday passed H.R. 921, reaffirming its "steadfast support for the State of Israel", condemning Hamas and Hizbollah for "engaging in unprovoked and reprehensible armed attacks against Israel on undisputed Israeli territory, for taking hostages, for killing Israeli soldiers, and for continuing to indiscriminately target Israeli civilian populations with their rockets and missiles" and supporting "Israel's right to take appropriate action to defend itself".

The resolution passed 410-8. Among the 8 Nays was Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Seattle/Baghdad). McDermott explains his objections to HR 391 in this statement. He claims "unwavering support for Israel", and that Israel has "every right to defend itself", but he is unwilling to support Israel taking appropriate action to defend itself. Nor does he condemn Hamas or Hizbollah.

McDermott's opponent in this fall's general election is Steve Beren.

1. It sounds to me like Baghdad Jim took a play out of John Kerry's play book.....He voted for the bill before he voted against it.

2. Steve is a good guy. I hope he makes hay out of this. It's gotta be easy to paint Bagdad Jim as 'out of touch' even to the people in his district.

I hope Steve hits him hard on this and the conviction for wiretapping a private conversation.

3. I'm proud of the House of Representatives.

4. I hope Israel does what the UN is unwilling to do and that is Disarm Hezzbollah in accordance with UN Resoulutions. Iran needs to be sent a message that they need to stop messing with the security of countries that want democracy. Iran funds Hezzbollah = Terrorist strikes into Israel.
Iran funds Iraqi insurgency = a longer time to gain a stable government in Iraq. We need Steve to hopefully get this point across in Congress seeing that Baghdad Jim wont.

5. I wish Steve well, but given the outrageous behavior and statements of the incumbent previous to the past election, I can't imagine the challenger having a chance to unseat McDermott. I attribute the incumbent's re-election to the fact that he represents an electorate that generally shares his emotional and incorrect view of the world. Am I wrong?

6. Yet another reason to throw this jerk out of office. I know of people who vote for him only because he's a DemoCrap. The fact he hates our way of life and thinks child molesters deserve a chance to disappear into society makes no difference. If there is a "D" after the name, these moonbats will mark the dot.

I will be doorbelling with the Beren campaign as part of the face to face effort. This latest stunt of Baghdad Jim will definitely be on the talking points list.

7. Swatter:

You are a liar. McDermott was *not* convicted of wiretapping anything. He passed along a conversation that others had recorded, and was found liable in a civil suit. So stop spreading your lies.

You rat wingers will beat McDermott when pigs fly to the moon.

8. This guy is an insult to the office--however the bigger insults are his repeated re-elections; even jackass voters like the sound of their own brays; insanity, but a part of the elective system; nothing yet created is idiot-proof as routinely demonstrated in his voting district;

9. This just in.....NASA announces that a flight to the moon is planned for the near future to determine the effect of the moons lower gravity on pigs.

You are right he wasnt convicted only found liable in a civil suit. But I guess it is ok for Baghdad Jim to record a private phone conversation between two Americans, yet you lefties find it wrong for the government to tap ohone calls to known terrorists.

Posted by: TrueSoldier on July 21, 2006 11:02 AM
10. McDermott was found guilty in a civil case where he illegally disclosed the contents of an illegally recorded domestic cell phone conversation, violating the privacy rights of those involved in the call.

What a guy.

11. TrueSoldier:

Do you have even the slightest respect for the facts or are you just another dumb dittohead like Swatter?

McDermott DID. NOT. RECORD. ANYTHING. He passed along a recording that others had made.

And in addition, nobody objects to tapping the phones of "known terrorists." Any true patriot would insist that our government OBEY THE LAW when doing so.

This disaster of a president refuses to do even that, and his incompetence and misfeasance will spell the political doom of you lot at every level of government.

Please join Burdabee in doorbelling the 7th Congressional District in opposition to McDermott. What a great comedy act that will be.

12. as you said Ivan stop spreading lies. President Bush has not been convicted of anything or even been found liable in a civil lawsuit.

14. Heh heh, if the Islamists were in control, the first executions would include babbling drooling Ivan. You see, Ivan, Islamists detest weakness, muddled morality, etc, etc. It is breathtakingly amazing that liberals do not comprehend that their attitudes, beliefs and lifestyles are protected here, and would be casually snuffed by those who liberals like McDermott and Burner actively support and secretly admire-Islamists. Islamists, who do not seperate church from state, and, with glee, kill infidels. If you leftists had any brains whatsoever, the elimination of Islamists by GWBush would be your very first priority and you would be his most vocal supporters. Ivan, you are unbelievably stupid and delusional.

17. Ivan--go back to HA to be with your own kind. McDermott was found guilty. In fact he even sent out requests for his loyal subjects to send money to help him out. He wasn't convicted for making the tape. He was convicted for what he did with it. He knew it was illegal and decided to take it any way. Now he's upset because he got caught.

19. Ivan's not "back." Ivan reads SP every day, every comment on every thread.

"Islamists" have as much chance of taking over this country as the rat wing has of unseating McDermott, or pigs flying to the moon. Americans do not like to live in fear, and always in our history we ultimately have rejected fear as a political motivator. Rejecting fear makes us strong and keeps us that way. Embracing fear weakens us.

Keep spreading fear, you guys. Fear of "Islamists," fear of nonexistent "voter fraud," fear of gay people, fear of public schools, the lot of it.

We don't fear any of that, and we don't fear you. We will always be vigilant, but we always will reject fear, and those fools and knaves who spread it.

iban likes talking in the third-person (if you were a POS like iban, wouldn't you?!). Iban also likes to make simple-minded statements like ""Islamists" have as much chance of taking over this country as the rat wing has of unseating McDermott..." when he knows that the Dhimmicrats are the "rat-party".

iban is a perfect illustration of invincible ignorance - squeeze his eyes shut for fear that he may see - clamp his hands over his ears that he might hear - oops! He does like to run his mouth! OK iban, you keep an eye on us...in between your regular duties cleaning the toilets down at the union hall...

21. The House of Representatives needs to stay in Republican control. Nancy Pelosi or another leftist speaker of the House (with Democrat majority) is equivalent to inviting Hezbollah into US congress. The choice is up to you and I.

27. Here is my press release from late last night (and in a separate post I will post my statement from back in March when the Federal Appeals Court ruled that McDermott was in violation of Federal law):

Beren criticizes McDermott vote on terrorist attacks on Israel

Steve Beren for Congress (WA - 7th CD)
www.berenforcongress.com

On Thursday July 20, Congress voted 410 to 8 to pass House Resolution 921, condemning the recent attacks against the State of Israel, holding terrorists and their state-sponsors accountable for such attacks, and supporting Israel's right to defend itself. Among the eight members of Congress voting "no" was Jim McDermott (D - WA 7th CD).

Steve Beren, the Republican candidate running to unseat McDermott, made the following statement:

"The terrorist actions by Hamas and Hezbollah, backed by Syria and Iran, deserve strong condemnation. Israel has the right to defend itself against those who would destroy it. McDermott's failure to condemn Hamas and Hezbollah show that he is way out of the mainstream. Recent terrorist actions against India and Israel, and the nuclear ambitions of Iran and North Korea, show that national security is the central issue facing America. The 7th C.D. needs a Congressman who will firmly defend the state of Israel, our ally in the war on terrorism, and the foremost democracy in the Middle East."

In the resolution, Congress reaffirmed its "steadfast support" for Israel; condemned the terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah; and condemned Iran and Syria for their continued support to Hezbollah and Hamas. The complete text of House Resolution 921 is available online at

29. I live in West Seattle, and painfully, I am represented in Congress by Baghdad Jim. Rather, make that he represents my district - definitely not me. And for that matter, I am not so sure that he represents my district very well. I believe that Jimmy pretty much does what he wants to do and knows that he will likely die in office as his district will continue to blindly re-elect the boob.

32. ok , Israel wants the UN to disarm Hezzbollah.
What exactly does that mean and entail?
Isn't that what Israel is trying to do?
so they want to leave and let the UN fight them and let the French the germans, chinese and canadians die in a battle against them.

Hezzbollah will NEVER be disarmed as long as there are Lebanese people , cause they are just potential Hezzbollah's.

bottom line, Israel should just fight their own battles instead of getting others to die for them.
