Mrs. Gregoire sends feds bill to cover the costs of illegal immigration that she encourages

Mrs. Gregoire has sent an invoice to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, demanding $50 million reimbursement from the federal government to cover the state's costs of incarcerating criminal illegal aliens in Washington prisons.

Surely, it's primarily the feds' responsibility to protect legal residents from illegal immigration. But Mrs. Gregoire also bears some responsibility for the problem of criminal illegal aliens, as her own policies provide incentives for more illegal immigrants to come here in the first place.

As the Evergreen Freedom Foundation reminds us, Mrs. Gregoire's administration provides non-emergency medical benefits to illegal immigrants. She also objects to federal laws that would require verification of legal residency for Medicaid recipients. She opposes sensible identification checks for foreign visitors entering the United States from Canada, encourages Mexican citizens in Washington schools to study using a Mexican curriculum, promotes what is effectively an amnesty program for illegal immigrants, and declines to require the Washington National Guard to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border.

1. I am at a complete loss! If they will not check who is here legally or not, how do they know how much to bill the feds? Or is it they do know and choose to ignore/encourage illegals.

I also thought the arguement was that illegals were a net plus for the economy. Surely the feds should be sending her a bill for all the illegals coming to WA, and the benefit WA is getting for the feds' lack enforcement.

Which is Chrissy? Or does it depend which group you are pandering to today?

2. Stefan--yes--you & EFF beat me to it--my exact thoughts on all points--the hypocracy of the WA system--

discount college fees to illegals and a host of other bene's to illegals while our own legal citizen veterans, seniors and disabled who paid in to the systems get diddly squat; an upside-down world; remember her recent gracious hosting of Presidente Fox? Why wasn't an invoice laid on his placemat at the formal gov mansion dinner?

This whole benefit thing to illegal immigrants is an affront to the sheep taxpayers who just pay and bleat. When do we end it? When we are sucked dry and it's too late for everyone to recover? We do not have an unlimited purse for all the world's freeloaders. Again I say--dry the well--the 'free drinkers' will leave on their own.

3. This state is one of less than a dozen that issues driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

5. I don't think you should be talking about the 2008 Clinton new US Attorney General like that. She knows the law (doesn't she?).

7. This is the same lady who was whining about how much it will cost to verify ID for Medicaid eligibility: http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/06/06/20/100loc_a1medicaid001.cfm

For the Medicaid eligibility the state is taking it upon itself to be the one to pay for the documents needed instead of putting the reponsibility on the recipients (federal law does not require the states to do this). If the state had been verifying ID all along as they should have, we wouldn't have this mess.

As for the crooks, send them back to the hoosegow at home. Bus tickets would be a lot cheaper. And make a big deal about it so the Mexican government can't look the other way. I am sure the locals will be pleased to see the lowlifes returned home.

We have a problem because for too long the state has chosen to look the other way. The chickens have now come home to roost. As for the prison costs, take away the amenities and serve a limited menu. Do just enough to maintain sanitation, but make it austere enough so word will spread that this is not the state to be arrested in. The sheriff of Maricopa county doesn't see too many repeat customers--those who decide to reoffend go elsewhere.

8. Sending an invoice to DC sound like another Christine Gregoire publicity stunt

Why just 2 years? Why not go back to 9/11/2001 or would that portray former Governor Gary Locke in a poor light

Brian Sontag, State Auditor, has already caught Christine Gregoire paying for nonapproved procedures and non US Citizens

I can understand Christine Gregoire and British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell asking President Bush to delay proposed passport rules for people trying to enter the United States, but to be taken seriously Christine Gregoire needs to enforce the existing regulations first

Requiring passports will slow the cars crossing the border, but why are cars less subject to scrutiny than passengers on an airplane or boat

Also the terroists for 911 and the millenium bombing did enter the US via Canada, so unfortuneately we have to redo the procedure when the individuals enter the US (versus accepting the Canadian review)

9. Who is she going to bill for the tuition of illegal immigrants that now get in-state tuition that Gary Locke signed into law, while she was AG?
It was a publicity stunt that her tone deaf administration just doesn't seem to get! She has little or no credibility when it comes to our illegal immigrant population. She did NOTHING as AG, she has done nothing but give perks to illegals as governor, especially since she is so grateful for their votes as provided in King County.

10. The funny thing is she said she is doing this so that the taxpayer gets reimbursed. Where does she think the Feds money comes from? If she were truly serious about reimbursment for the taxpayer she would send the bill to her good buddy Vicente Fox and the Mexican Government!

11. No the democrats want to give money to illegals. It buys their votes and then they can try to get the feds to pay for these payouts. Blame it on the feds that the Illegals are here you have to pay for them. Let the feds pay for buying illegal votes for Democrats. Wait they are not citizens so they cant vote right??????

12. David,

to quote Fancine Bubsy (ex-canidate CA 50),"You don't need papers to vote".

13. Christine,

Thank you so much for your concern. To verify your claim, we require the following information on each and every illegal alien:

Name:
Age:
Current Address:

Once we are able to locate each of these individuals, you and I will sit down and have a chat about how they all ended up in your state in the first place.

Regards,

17. How can Fraudoire complain about the prison bill? If she had authorized the National Guard to go to the southern border in the first place then perhaps the prison bill would be lower.

18. This is Gregoire's crafty plan to solve the transportation dilemma. Problem is the Mexican peso won't buy as much asphalt as the dollar will but she'll take whatever she can get her hands on. Did a dandy job with the tobacco money. Go girl go!!!

19. Please forgive me... for this is way off target...but I must say this...

37 years ago today, July 18 1969, the "MORAL COMPASS" off the Demo rat Party drove his car off the Chappaquiddick Bridge near Edgartown Massachusetts, "drowning" his passenger Miss Mary Jo Kopechne. R.I.P.

20. PacGrovePhlash and anyone who wants to know the horrid details of what Ted Kennedy literally got away with, go to yTedk.com and you'll see a very comprehensive, very interesting description of the circumstances surrounding the accident, and how Ted told no authorities for 8 or so hours. And more. The story is very gripping and shocking. You'll found out that it's very likely, from the evidence found in the car, that Mary Jo was likely alive for about 1-1/2 hours after the accident and being left in the car. And that if Ted had just gone to a nearby house and summoned help, she would almost certainly be alive today.

21. She wants it both ways. Ask not what I can do for my state, but what my state can do for me ! She has definitely earned the nickname of Fraudoire. JFK is spinning in his grave not only about his younger brother, but to other phony politicians such as the former Attorney General of WA.

23. ...how about the bills we (taxpayers) will pay for the baby (allegedly) tossed into the retention pond in Marysville WA by an (alleged) south-of-the-border 'visitor?' will this story be deep-sixed or softened for diversity reasons? yet another symptom of an immigration problem ignored;
