It's in the P-I (II)

Yesterday's P-I published this guest op-ed "'Never again' gone mad in Israel". For some reason, the P-I editorial page has a fetish for printing op-eds from depraved individuals who shrug their shoulders at terrorists who attack random Jews for the hell of it, but whine and moan when Jews have the nerve to defend themselves.

Meanwhile, I'm listening to Israel Radio news live on the Internet -- the Hizbollah has rained dozens of Katyusha rockets on the major cities throughout the northern part of country, including Haifa and Safed. Dozens of people have been injured and at least two have been killed. The Israeli Navy is now blowing up the fuel tanks at the Beirut airport. Anybody care to wager when we'll see the first editorial in a Seattle daily criticizing Israel for escalating the situation?

1. When? Tomorrow.

2. Obi-Wan - how optimistic! Why do you think it will take that long?

4. Fred, Stefan was wondering about the Seattle dailies. Since the Pee-Eye and Slimes are morning papers I figured that tomorrow was the earliest they could get an article into print. But I did forget about some of the other dalies, and the web sites. I stand corrected.

When? Today, 1pm.

5. People in Seattle do not think very deeply -- about anything....

6. Obi-Wan - I did purposely mis-interpret the meaning to beyond the dailies. But I didn't think they could possibly wait that long to get some "poor little terrorist" story out.

7. Sandy Tolan, a freelance reporter, a grad school professor at Berkley. His credentials say it all. Pity those poor souls eating by candlelight in Gaza? Hell, people in Seattle pay good money to dine that way.

In Tolan's warped and slanted assessment he blames this on Israel's response to a kidnapped soldier. Hmm, he conveniently overlooks the fact the soldier was kidnapped during an offensive armed raid upon an Israeli military installation.

Rather than criticism Israel should be commended for putting up with the BS it has for the past few years. Sure Israel is bombing and lobbing artillery. Their targets are specific and tactical unlike random innocents on buses and in restaurants being blown up. Unlike indiscriminate rockets lobbed into Israel.

Israel should be criticized for waiting too long. Thankfully they didn't cut and run as happened with the USS Cole.

8. Hector: Exactly my thoughts. I'm kind of hoping they go ahead and take out Iran's nuclear facilities, again. They've hung around too long listening to the rest of the world tell them they should be ashamed for defending themselves, and to trust in diplomacy. Ha! Good for them! I hope they kick the living $$it out of all of the terrorist harboring countries over there who want to destroy Israel, and then move on to the rest of the infidel world.

9. You sure got it right Stefan. As the drama in the middle east escalates this afternoon the MSM slant is focusing on the damage Israel is inflicting on Lebanon. Gosh what a surprise.

10. Of course all the mainstream papers will feel sorry for the terrorists. The NY Communist Times still doesn't understand why there is such an uproar about divulging a secret program used to help catch terrorists.

Israel has every right to defend itself. The papers conveniently forget to mention that the Israelis are greatly outnumbered by Arabs. Israel knows it is smarter to nip the problem in the bud instead of waiting until it escalates. More power to them as they send a strong message to the terrorists of the world.

For all those who are bleating about how terrible it is for the terrorists, why don't you go over there to show your support by standing in front of the targets? The scumbags will be happy to have you sacrifice yourself for their cause while they run away to alert the media.

11. If there is a lesson to be learned from this, it ought to be "Don't mess with Israel. They will patiently stand guard and defend themselves. And when they have had enough provocation, they will swiftly and efficiently take out their attackers."

12. I Pray that Israel will wipe out everyone of their current terror enemies...all the way to Iran....and Al-Sandy's loathing and hatred of his fellow man drive him to suicide. You Jew haters blahhhh!

13. Did you catch this letter to the editor in the Times yesterday?
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/opinion/2003120790_wedlets12.html

I'm not surprised at the anti-Semitism displayed in the letter. I am surprised that the Times would publish it. Their letters editor is about as poor as they come.

14. I heard about it from one of the "talk show radios" ;'} but have been surprised that there hasn't been more knee-jerk anti-Semitism than what we've seen (locally - there's been plenty on the national scene). I guess they must be distracted by free gubmit cheese.

15. Israel is one country of people who REMEMBER their history. If only our country could remeber our history we could win this war on terror a hell of alot quicker!

16. It's already been written and will appear tomorrow.

It's a mystery to me why anyone would lift a pen in support of Hezbollah. But, Seattle is full of people with insular and unrealist views of the world.

17. Liberals want Jews to silently march back into the gas chambers.

18. I find it very interesting that the majority of American Jews vote for the Dems. Considering that the staunchest defenders of Israel's right to self-defense are the Republican Party and conservatives, this is puzzling.

Perhaps it's because over the years the attitudes of the parties has been reversed. Where once the Dems were Israel's defenders, now it's the Reps.

Perhaps it's because most American Jews are somewhat detached from Israeli politics, and multi-culteralism trumps everything else.

I dunno.

What I do know, as a Naval Academy graduate, is that Israel must respond with overwhelming force. Negotiations and prisoner swaps will only lead to more kidnappings of Israeli solders. To show weakness to the enemy is to encourage him.

I've been to Israel several times. I love the country, the people, and their spirit. I've been to Masada; it's story inspires. The Israelis are a caring, proud people.

If anything, the Israeli's government's response so far has been restrained.

Israel should pound the savages into the ground. And that includes Iran's nuke facilities, with US assistance. Only then will the savages understand the consequences of their actions.
