Take part in the Virtual Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence

Repost, 6pmMonday

To celebrate Independence Day, we're organizing a virtual public reading of the Declaration of Independence here on Sound Politics.

If you want to participate, send me an e-mail (theshark AT usefulwork DOT com) and I'll assign you a few lines from the Declaration. Make a digital recording of yourself reading the lines and e-mail me an MP3, WAV or WMA file. I'll splice everybody's lines into a single audio file and post it here on July 4. I'll also list everybody who participates (you may remain anonymous if you prefer). We're mostly done, but we still need a few more readers this evening in order to finish in time for tomorrow. Everybody at my house, ages 4 through 73, has read some lines! Ask you spouse, your kids and/or your visiting relatives to take part!

I was inspired to organize this after reading Rep. Toby Nixon's essay on the Declaration of Independence. I also give a tip of the hat for this idea to West Coast Live, a radio variety show in San Francisco, hosted by Sedge Thomson. Thomson has a live reading of Declaration of Independence on his show every year, with volunteers from the studio audience reading the lines. I was in the audience for the one back in 1991. It's really a wonderful way to commemorate The Fourth of July and I thought it would be cool to try to organize a similar event online.

3. Thanks Stefan, this is a great idea. And this kind of positive, engaging and unique posting is what makes Sound Politics by far and away the premier blog of the Puget Sound area. Here you get a celebration as well as good politics. You even get good recipes.

On other Sound area blogs they just wallow in their echo chamber of homogeneity, negativity and profanity.

4. Hello All....
Mr. Cynical is on a very extended vacation and I'm very pleased to report that this whole great country of ours is not filled with idiots like Seattle is!!
How refreshing to be in a spot where when Eco-muffins screw with somebody's property rights they are likely to get an armed response.
Many thanks to my friends who are always RIGHT for holding down the fort in my absence.
Please remind the LEFTIST PINHEADED KLOWNS that that is precisely what they are!!
Oh, and throw in a couple LENIN'S USEFUL IDIOTS for good measure.

6. No matter how confusing and disrupted it all seems at times, the better instincts of freedom loving people throughout two Hundred and Thirty years created and sustained the opportunity we have to make life worth living, and America is blessed so long as we pay tribute to the best it has to offer.

Thanks to GW Bush and our troops for making it possible for us to enjoy peace and freedom, and thanks God for letting me be born in America.

7. Ditto, amused. And good to hear Seattle is an anomaly, Mr. C.

Off topic, but did anyone read about Mexico's recent "too close to call" presidential election? I though Logan moved to L.A., not Mexico City...
