First responders support Reichert

Congressman Dave Reichert continues to make steady progress toward re-election, while his unserious opponent Darcy Burner goes down in, uh, flames.

Back in March, Reichert won the endorsement of the Seattle Firefighters Union. Burner's campaign manager said this to Eli Sanders at The Stranger:

the Seattle Firefighters Union is clearly out of touch with the needs of first responders in the 8th Congressional District ... The endorsement that's really relevant for this race is the State Council of Fire Fighters, and we feel like we have a strong shot at their endorsement.
But Burner's credibility was torched by the fire fighters, who yesterday endorsed Reichert. Last week the Washington Council of Police & Sheriffs also endorsed Reichert, with the statement that "There is no other US Congressman who can contribute more knowledge and expertise to our Homeland Security efforts than Dave Reichert".

5. Endorsements are interesting, but too much is usually made of them. Interest groups will consistently support incumbents, especially incumbents in the majority party. It would take an extreme politician, or one who had bad poll numbers, to encourage most interest groups to switch to the challenger. There is very little to gain (for an interest group) from supporting someone who is both the challenger and the likely loser.

6. Did a woman named "Burner" actually believe she would be endorsed by firefighters?

7. I said it before, I'll say it again. Darcy Burner is a mixed up woman whose priorities are at the least, questionable. This is for you JOHN MCDONALD! Reichert's the MAN, especially when it comes to homeland security! I don't quite like his tree-hugging sometimes, though. And he's got the backing from alot of people that know about homeland security, Mr. McDonald.

8. I agree about Burner's mixed-up priorities. I feel sorry for her pre-schooler.

9. Henry makes a good point: Established interest groups have a vested interest in backing incumbents.

Any group, of course, can make an endorsement. That don't mean much for a discriminating voter, without know the WHYS and WHATS behind the endorsement.

10. Glad to see that Bartelby agrees with Henry who agrees with the majority of the voters in the 8th District "Darcy Burner, Likely Loser".

12. Vote to give Henry Burner rights to a full time mom. Vote Reichert.

13. Amen to that, Jeff B. Little Henry deserves at least that.

14. A woman's place is in the home, not in Washington.

15. Yes, Interest groups have a stake in incumbents...but you don't often see resounding support from firefighters for a republican candidate. It's good stuff.

16. There may be something to Firefighters ironically supporting the opposition to Burner. Besides that, Dave Reichert is not an empty suit/skirt like his opponent is - he will grab most of the independent votes and sides with the Republican House on securing the borders first..

17. I'm stunned that dtrain posted "A woman's place is in the home, not in Washington." Completely stunned. How do you feel about Condi Rice? I wonder where you feel a black woman belongs.
