State Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerry Alexander is whining about the fact that his opponent, John Groen, accepted some perfectly legal campaign contributions.
"We followed the law," said Charlie Klinge, one of Groen's law partners and chairman of his fundraising committee.Sheesh. I thought judges were supposed to make judgments based on the version of a law that was passed by the legislature, not the version of the law that the judge wished had been passed by the legislature. But Alexander's campaign accused Groen of flouting the spirit of the new law and urged him to return the excess donations.
Chief Justice Alexander seems to have a chronic problem with that concept, which is why this would be a good opportunity to thank him for his many decades of service and wish him a long, healthy and satisfying retirement starting at the end of this term.

I know for one thing; I will always vote for someone who interprets rather than makes laws.
