I've never seen how leaving a mess behind amounted to much of an accomplishment. Or how blaming others for your failures solves problems. But then I'm not a Democrat. Today's editorial in the King County Journal on the resignation of county elections chief Dean Logan correctly challenges the prevailing meme among Seattle daily editorialists, and Democrats such as Logan and county exec Ron Sims that Logan's departure was really due to rabid partisanship and vocal critics.
Read on.......
So the bickering, back-biting, the "toxic environment," the "highly politicized and divided structure," "the recent incivility and disrespectful nature of proceedings" finally got to King County elections chief Dean Logan. He resigned Monday to take a job with the Los Angeles County elections department. The way Logan's boss, County Executive Ron Sims, sees it, Logan was run out of town. And not because he presided over a department that misplaced absentee ballots, accepted ballots of felons and dead people among other voting irregularities, but because "some unscrupulous people bent on partisan gain have chosen to treat Dean unfairly as they have worked to undermine confidence in our elections system."
Apparently, Sims has forgotten the election fiasco that got us here in the first place....Logan's department screwed up, he was the guy in charge, so is the continuing scrutiny over the elections department any surprise?
Logan started taking heat again more recently when he and Sims promoted adoption of a vote-by-mail system....Republican members, but they were set to be outvoted by the Democratic majority on the council - that is until one "D," Bob Ferguson of Seattle, wavered in his support of Logan and questioned the capability of the elections department, which had not filled several vacancies. That, apparently, did it for Logan whose resignation letter cited "the recent incivility and disrespectful nature of proceedings with the County Council related to the vote-by-mail proposal" as pushing him toward quitting.
In a press release, Sims called on the County Council "to rise above partisanship and establish an atmosphere of trust, collaboration and joint problem solving..."
And let it start in Sims' office.
BTW, the KCJ has recently unveiled a redesigned, much less clunky-looking Web site, and expanded the daily online newshole. Good going!
Posted by Matt Rosenberg at June 14, 2006 09:16 AM | Email This1) Yet another well executed Rovian plot.
2) Chimpy Bush-Hitler hates all Democrats and wants to disenfranchise voters like he did in Ohio. Logan was just a victim.
3) Another symptom of Global Warming. The heat that KCE felt must have been caused by increased CO2 emissions.
"to rise above partisanship and establish an atmosphere of trust, collaboration and joint problem solving..."
Republicans should not miss this opportunity to shut their mouths.

Posted by: Chris on June 14, 2006 09:51 AMOr is it that maybe they aren't really telling the truth and there is a far larger dissatisfaction?
Either way, it is no compliment!
Posted by: Fred on June 14, 2006 10:09 AMThis is why I take the KCJ instead of any other daily. More clarity.
Posted by: Misty on June 14, 2006 10:56 AMIt's pretty clear what happened: Sims plugged into the old boy network of fellow traveler democrats and got Dean-o a job:
"Hey - I've got a hot potato I need to offload. Got any room for my boy Dean?"
However the truth is that Washington State was just the probationary period for Logan. It was his chance to prove how corrupt he could be and whether or not he could get away with it.
Needless to say, he came through with flying colors. His masters were quite pleased with his performance and want him in the "big show" in CA. Apparently non-citizens don't need papers to vote down there according to Democrat Busby.
Who knows, maybe Logan can go to Ohio and show Democrats how to fraudulenty register voters without getting caught. After Chad Statton go convicted for trading fraudulent registrations for crack cocaine, it left yet another mark in the Democrat's soiled history of tamany hall style election theft.
Posted by: pbj on June 14, 2006 12:46 PMI am Logan, Hear me roar.
With bloggers too shrill to ignore.
And I know I’ve counted votes from every one.
I’ve got Goldy on the phone,
Sharkansky won’t throw me a bone.
And a dead man just returned his absentee,
Ohhhh yes I can count,
But it won’t add up the same
Ohhh yes, It’s a shame,
But I’ll never take the blame.
I am Logan,
I am untouchable
I am Logan……

DEFIANCE - Two months after pleading not guilty to faking voter registration forms in exchange for crack cocaine, a Defiance man has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of false registration.
Chad Staton, 22, of Stratton Street appeared in Defiance County Common Pleas Court Thursday to enter pleas to the 10 counts of the fifth-degree felony. In December, a grand jury returned indictments against him for filing forms in the names of Mary Poppins, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Michael Jordan, Dick Tracy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Brett Favre, George Foreman, Maria Lopez, and George Lopez.
Each offense could result in a fine of $2,500 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months. Mr. Staton's court-appointed attorney, Tiffany Reighter Beckman, was unavailable for comment yesterday. Mr. Staton could not be reached for comment.
Posted by: Chad on June 14, 2006 12:52 PMI must have missed that one on the Republican platform.
Note to "Progressive":
Please take your meds.
Posted by: swassociates on June 14, 2006 01:03 PMHow totally progressive! You mean as opposed to forcing your new progressive religions on us. Warmism, socialism, atheism, whale ism, trailism,
abortion ism, liberalism, illegal alienism.
Please take your meds.
"Progressive": you don't need to worry about anyone here forcing their religion down your throat. That's tilting at windmills. But you'd darn better be concerned about Islamofacism forcing itself down your throat. The president of Iran has worldwide domination by Islam as his goal (with nukes to help that cause along)---a goal shared by other Islamofacists who cut off heads elsewhere in the world. You would do well to put your energies to fight that, instead. Would make much more sense.
Posted by: Michele on June 14, 2006 01:32 PMAnd then you complain about Bush trampling your civil rights.
You can't be serious can you? I mean really, this is just too absurd!
Posted by: Fred on June 14, 2006 01:39 PMI welcome Lt Watada's brave stance against this administration. We need more good progressives like Lt Watada to stand up and act now to end war and racism! When will we learn to stop our imperialistic ways? This whole thing with the "War on Terror" is a joke. It is something Bush cooked up in Texas.
Posted by: Progressive on June 14, 2006 01:41 PMYou want to learn about people forcing their "religion" on others, read Godless by Ann Coulter.
I just finished it. A very fun read and boy, does it expose the "liberal religion" as the random belief system that it is.
You guys want to make fun of people "of faith?" Take a look at some cold hard facts and then tell me your own "progressive" ideology is really anything more than a bunch of myths that are held together by faith.
Posted by: johnny on June 14, 2006 02:17 PMI didn't realize the World Trade Center and Pentagon was in Texas. Silly me.
I think "Progressive" should keep talking. He is the new voice of the Democratic Party. All should know and hear his wisdom.

Michael Jordan and George Lopez are real people. Tiffany Reighter Beckman, on the other hand...that's gotta be a fake.

Posted by: South County on June 14, 2006 03:26 PMGood luck with the smoke and mirrors Deanie.
Posted by: Holden Cowfield on June 14, 2006 04:54 PMUnfortunately, the divisiveness is still aplenty in King County - the Council Dems will continue to try and hijack all-mail voting against the will of a majority of voters. Progressive oppression accompanied by smoke and mirrors of leftist pondscum continue to ruin the day.
