KCJ: "Logan Can't Take Heat, Gets Out of Kitchen"

I've never seen how leaving a mess behind amounted to much of an accomplishment. Or how blaming others for your failures solves problems. But then I'm not a Democrat. Today's editorial in the King County Journal on the resignation of county elections chief Dean Logan correctly challenges the prevailing meme among Seattle daily editorialists, and Democrats such as Logan and county exec Ron Sims that Logan's departure was really due to rabid partisanship and vocal critics.

Read on.......

So the bickering, back-biting, the "toxic environment," the "highly politicized and divided structure," "the recent incivility and disrespectful nature of proceedings" finally got to King County elections chief Dean Logan. He resigned Monday to take a job with the Los Angeles County elections department.

The way Logan's boss, County Executive Ron Sims, sees it, Logan was run out of town. And not because he presided over a department that misplaced absentee ballots, accepted ballots of felons and dead people among other voting irregularities, but because "some unscrupulous people bent on partisan gain have chosen to treat Dean unfairly as they have worked to undermine confidence in our elections system."

Apparently, Sims has forgotten the election fiasco that got us here in the first place....Logan's department screwed up, he was the guy in charge, so is the continuing scrutiny over the elections department any surprise?

Logan started taking heat again more recently when he and Sims promoted adoption of a vote-by-mail system....Republican members, but they were set to be outvoted by the Democratic majority on the council - that is until one "D," Bob Ferguson of Seattle, wavered in his support of Logan and questioned the capability of the elections department, which had not filled several vacancies. That, apparently, did it for Logan whose resignation letter cited "the recent incivility and disrespectful nature of proceedings with the County Council related to the vote-by-mail proposal" as pushing him toward quitting.

In a press release, Sims called on the County Council "to rise above partisanship and establish an atmosphere of trust, collaboration and joint problem solving..."

And let it start in Sims' office.

BTW, the KCJ has recently unveiled a redesigned, much less clunky-looking Web site, and expanded the daily online newshole. Good going!

1. Ultimately the real reason for why Logan left will come out and he will be vindicated. I think at this point, it comes down to three possibilities:

1) Yet another well executed Rovian plot.
2) Chimpy Bush-Hitler hates all Democrats and wants to disenfranchise voters like he did in Ohio. Logan was just a victim.
3) Another symptom of Global Warming. The heat that KCE felt must have been caused by increased CO2 emissions.

2. Come on Jeff B. Logan isn't a victim, this was all well orchastrated! WA was just a training ground. They now send him to a big state where his processes can be implemented on a grand scale. LA is full of illegals. His job is to get them all registered before RealID is implemented.

3. "the recent incivility and disrespectful nature" .. Sharkansky was questioning his patriotism and oppressing his free speech!

"to rise above partisanship and establish an atmosphere of trust, collaboration and joint problem solving..."
Republicans should not miss this opportunity to shut their mouths.

Now that is a theory!!! But I am sure it will become a reality soon.....I don't trust those Dem's.....

5. The Times also had an apologetic editorial about Logan. Run out of town due to talk radio and blogs. Funny--top level conservatives or "R" politicians are immediately asked to step down when some liberal victim group stubs its toe or is the slightest bit offended; forget about basic job failure and incompetence; people in business are fired daily for NOT acheiving goals THEY AGREED TO and SIGNED UP FOR; waaaaahhh!

6. Jimmie-howya-doin - that sure sounds like they admit to what pathetic spineless whimps they really are if talk radio and blogs, the supposed fringe, are able to drive them out of town.

Or is it that maybe they aren't really telling the truth and there is a far larger dissatisfaction?

Either way, it is no compliment!

7. "And let it start in Sims' office."
Well, that's pretty much it, isn't it? Why is that so hard for them to see?

This is why I take the KCJ instead of any other daily. More clarity.

8. The only people being disrespectful at the KCC meeting were Larry Phillips, who couldn't be bothered to listen to public comments, and Julia Patterson, whose non-sequitur rant at Stefan was for the ages.

It's pretty clear what happened: Sims plugged into the old boy network of fellow traveler democrats and got Dean-o a job:

"Hey - I've got a hot potato I need to offload. Got any room for my boy Dean?"

9. He's not running from Seattle, the DNC gave him a promotion. They recruited him to rig the Ca Governor's election.

Posted by: Andy on June 14, 2006 12:42 PM
10. Why didn't he take Ron Sims with him! Nuts! How could an employer actually hire this clown? Did they check his records and references? Oh ya, he's a lefto-crat. All sins forgiven. More like what sins. Thanks for screwing us all Dean! Now get lost!

11. Everyone is assuming Logan left under a cloud. Well, if your measure of a good elections official is honesty and ethics, then he did leave under a cloud.

However the truth is that Washington State was just the probationary period for Logan. It was his chance to prove how corrupt he could be and whether or not he could get away with it.

Needless to say, he came through with flying colors. His masters were quite pleased with his performance and want him in the "big show" in CA. Apparently non-citizens don't need papers to vote down there according to Democrat Busby.

Who knows, maybe Logan can go to Ohio and show Democrats how to fraudulenty register voters without getting caught. After Chad Statton go convicted for trading fraudulent registrations for crack cocaine, it left yet another mark in the Democrat's soiled history of tamany hall style election theft.

13. (No idea why this tune is in my head)

I am Logan, Hear me roar.
With bloggers too shrill to ignore.
And I know I’ve counted votes from every one.

I’ve got Goldy on the phone,
Sharkansky won’t throw me a bone.
And a dead man just returned his absentee,

Ohhhh yes I can count,
But it won’t add up the same

Ohhh yes, It’s a shame,
But I’ll never take the blame.

I am Logan,
I am untouchable
I am Logan……

(With apologies to Helen Reddy)

14. Googled Chad Statton. Found this:

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050219/NEWS02/502190352/-1/NEWS

DEFIANCE - Two months after pleading not guilty to faking voter registration forms in exchange for crack cocaine, a Defiance man has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of false registration.

Chad Staton, 22, of Stratton Street appeared in Defiance County Common Pleas Court Thursday to enter pleas to the 10 counts of the fifth-degree felony. In December, a grand jury returned indictments against him for filing forms in the names of Mary Poppins, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Michael Jordan, Dick Tracy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Brett Favre, George Foreman, Maria Lopez, and George Lopez.

Each offense could result in a fine of $2,500 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months. Mr. Staton's court-appointed attorney, Tiffany Reighter Beckman, was unavailable for comment yesterday. Mr. Staton could not be reached for comment.

I must have missed that one on the Republican platform.

Note to "Progressive":

Please take your meds.

17. "forcing your religion on us"

How totally progressive! You mean as opposed to forcing your new progressive religions on us. Warmism, socialism, atheism, whale ism, trailism,
abortion ism, liberalism, illegal alienism.

Please take your meds.

18. Guys, don't feed Goldy's troll.

Posted by: Steve_dog on June 14, 2006 01:20 PM
19. spinmd, LOL!!

"Progressive": you don't need to worry about anyone here forcing their religion down your throat. That's tilting at windmills. But you'd darn better be concerned about Islamofacism forcing itself down your throat. The president of Iran has worldwide domination by Islam as his goal (with nukes to help that cause along)---a goal shared by other Islamofacists who cut off heads elsewhere in the world. You would do well to put your energies to fight that, instead. Would make much more sense.

20. Progressive - you sure gave away your agenda - pure socialism. Can elections, just put in the proper person. The people do not count, deserve no say, and do not know what is good for them, so us progrssives will take care of it for you.

And then you complain about Bush trampling your civil rights.

You can't be serious can you? I mean really, this is just too absurd!

21. I keep trying to take my meds (marijuana) but you rethugs don't allow me to take them. You take them away.

I welcome Lt Watada's brave stance against this administration. We need more good progressives like Lt Watada to stand up and act now to end war and racism! When will we learn to stop our imperialistic ways? This whole thing with the "War on Terror" is a joke. It is something Bush cooked up in Texas.

23. Progressive - it is no surprise that you would welcome someone that gives his word when he volunteers for something and then doesn't do it. That is the type of integrity the left admires. Fortunately the country didn't go for Flip-flop Kerry. They like people that stand for something that doesn't change with the number of bong hits.

24. I don't know. This post should have started at with a "Logan's Run" reference, giving the nod to the classic '70s sci-fi flick.
Some of the folks on the other side of the political blogosphere made a suggestion that house warming gifts be sent in Dean's direction.
I'll get out of the way the cursory brown paper bag set on fire and left on the front porch step.

25. So, are there any other 'Rats leaving the burning ship?
Progressive--dude--puerile attempts at agitation just reveal your lack of actual intelligence or interest in adult discussion.

26. Hey "Progressive" (meaning liberal idiot.)

You want to learn about people forcing their "religion" on others, read Godless by Ann Coulter.

I just finished it. A very fun read and boy, does it expose the "liberal religion" as the random belief system that it is.

You guys want to make fun of people "of faith?" Take a look at some cold hard facts and then tell me your own "progressive" ideology is really anything more than a bunch of myths that are held together by faith.

27. Better one faker pretending to fear the forcing of religion on the masses and signing himself 'progressive', than other fakers pretending to 'protect' the environment by seizing sixty percent of your property and signing with the names of the King County Council.

28. After reading the Seattle Times lead editorial today mourning Logan's departure, I think they wrote it after smoking the same marijuana that "Progressive" must have used before posting those rants.

29. This whole thing with the "War on Terror" is a joke. It is something Bush cooked up in Texas.

I didn't realize the World Trade Center and Pentagon was in Texas. Silly me.

I think "Progressive" should keep talking. He is the new voice of the Democratic Party. All should know and hear his wisdom.

Good luck with the smoke and mirrors Deanie.

35. You can tell who the partisan leftist kool aid drinkers are - anyone who thinks that Logan did a good job. He may have once did a good job, until the 2004 election and after that it was all downhill.
He become the puppet of Ron Sims and a partisan hack through and through.

Unfortunately, the divisiveness is still aplenty in King County - the Council Dems will continue to try and hijack all-mail voting against the will of a majority of voters. Progressive oppression accompanied by smoke and mirrors of leftist pondscum continue to ruin the day.
