Kayak Attack On Friday Bush Fundraiser

Darcy Burner's Last, Best Hope?

From olyimc.org, the latest on earned media protest plans this Friday June 16 while POTUS raises money for U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert (WA-8th) in Medina. First came news of a "Walking Dead" march from Bellevue and a "die-in" at the fundraiser. But permits for street protests are required in Medina, so maybe nobody's gonna croak on Peter Neupert's driveway after all. Now the plans include a flotilla of anti-Bush kayakers in the waters of Medina in a transparent bid to draw earned media that Seattle Camp Wellstone students could discuss in their class later that same day. Anyway, note the protest sponsors, and the whole waterborne and freeway-related logistics.

A question: Will the publicity from protests such as this, trying to directly confront Bush on Iraq and national security during his fundraising trips for tight House and Senate contests, have any effect on the '06 election cycle? Bush's negatives are way up there now, assuming you care about those kinds of polls, and that voters in unrelated contests also do. But he still raises hella cash for Republicans, cash which is smartly husbanded for direct mail and paid media that helps win elections. So far it seems the anti-Bush and anti-Republican meme is - again - all the Ds have going into gametime. That's not good for their side.

Here's an excerpt from the latest pitch (first link, above) by protest leader Kenn Dzaman at the olyimc.org site.

Please help protest this president and his failed leadership. (Illegal WAR, illegal imprisonment, domestic spying, white house leaks, media manipulation, congressional manipulation; and many other abuses of executive power and the constitution.) Help stop the "Bush corporate-war-money-machine"; - President Bush will be there, will you? Help to stop the fear and terrorism of war. There are protests being planned in Medina and Bellevue Washington, Friday morning, June 16th, at 9:00am. There will be a lot of people practicing their first amendment rights as to free speech, the right to peacefully assemble, and protest.

There will be boats on the shores of Medina with protest banners. There will be people in kayaks protesting on both sides of the 520 bridge. There will be banners and protesters on bridge overpasses going into Medina. There will be protests at Downtown Bellevue Park, Medina Park, and Maydenbauer (sic) Park. There will be speakers at Downtown Bellevue Park - 10201 NE 4th St, people with signs and posters, and a march is planned. (Downtown Bellevue Park is next to Bellevue Square in downtown Bellevue, speakers to be announced). (There are confirmed groups and individuals coming from as far away as Portland; also Seattle, West Seattle, Olympia, Olympic Peninsula, and Bellingham.)

Organizers, and people, who have shown support, and are planning to attend: Not in Our Name...; Eastside Fellowship of Reconciliation...; Work For Justice...; Democrats DFW...(chadshue(at)hotmail.com).

Jes' wondrin: would those boats with banners on the shores of Medina be owned by Democrats, Greens, socialists or anarchists? Are we talking purring yachts with wet bars, owned by friends of George Soros; downscale dinghies; or good working-class Alaskan fishing vessels? Enquiring minds will want to know.

MSM: The lead organizer, Dzaman, gives his phone number in the above-linked post. How about an in-depth profile? And that Thursday night protest planning meeting at the Seattle Public Library's U District branch might be worth attending too, doncha think, political editors? Give us some real insight into the people behind the protest, not just the usual paint-by-numbers quotes from those at the event.

I can see the Sunday package, front-page with a color photo spread: "Kayaking For Peace And Justice." C'mon, make my day.

UPDATE, 6/14/06: The Seattle Times runs a a story this morning on the planned protests. After the Moonbat sorties on the Eastside Friday morning, the State Democratic Party will hold a Seattle rally featuring as a speaker......Reichert's opponent Darcy Burner.

1. Great for Reichert. Once a few normal 8th CD voters hear about this, they'll be able to make a more concrete link:

Dary Burner = Moonbat Gathering

Doubtful that the secret service will let them get all that close. You never know when one of these BDS cases is going to go too far and start acting on the fantasies they comment about at HA. Best to make sure they are kept at a distance.

2. These folks have forgotten!

Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands, The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified.

It was censored in the US from all later reports.

Or maybe they have forgotten what their darling boy had to say to Oliver North:

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore!

Remember that come election day!

5. I think the weather is supposed to be real crummy, isn't it? I keep hearing we're supposed to get thundershowers one of these days. Can't imagine it would be very comfy in a kayak ...

6. Regarding the Oliver North / Osama bin Laden / Al Gore story above, unfortunately this an urban myth cirulating. See snopes.com

7. I see "not in our name" is participating. I woinder if o-2 watada will be able to get leave to come up and insult his Commander-in-Chief?

8. FYI: the Ollie North questioning did happen, however it was Abu Nidal, not Osama Bin Laden that Ollie was talking about.

9. GS you're advancing some highly inaccurate information on the testimony made by Col. Ollie North's. In fact, the testimony is partially correct but he named Abu Nidal as the one he feared for his family and his own safety.

10. rbb, I can garantee that Lt. Watada will not be there. He would be in violation of military law (again). Military members are not allowed to participate in protest against the government they have sworn to defend. If he were to show up he would find him self locked-up until his trial for certain.

11. "Illegal WAR, illegal imprisonment, domestic spying, white house leaks, media manipulation, congressional manipulation; and many other abuses of executive power and the constitution." Looks like little Kenn and his peabrained friends should have been protesting against the last administration, not the current one.

Since Kenn and company are such fans of al-Zarqawi and his kind, we should send them over there as soon as possible to mingle with their fellow Bush bashers. I'm sure Kenn won't mind getting his head cut off in the name of the cause. Too bad the MSM is going to give the protestors front page coverage. If the media had any backbone at all, they would give these bozos minimal coverage on the back page.

12. In honor of the POTUS, will this be a "dry" event?

Posted by: WenG on June 14, 2006 05:35 PM
13. Hi GS,

However, the Abu Nidal story is an interesting one. Abu Nidal was an international Arab terrorist who killed ~900 people and was involved in some of the most horrible and public massacures. Abu Nidal was a Baath party member and under the protection of Saddam Hussein for more than 15 years. He was murdered in Baghdad in the run up to the Iraq War. I never understood why the Bush Adminstration did not use him as an example of Saddam's support for terrorism, including Saddam's financing of various terrorist groups around Isreal. Perhaps because Bush kissing friends in Saudi do the same thing.
