OLYMPIA - Law enforcement officials armed with pepper spray and dressed in riot gear guarded the gate at the Port of Olympia Monday night, where about 150 activists gathered to protest a military ship that arrived to take equipment to Iraq.Protestors chanted "Out of Olympia, Out of Iraq" as they rocked the chain-link gate so hard that it looked like it might give way. At least three people tried to use wooden boards to pry the gate open.
....Activists had been waiting for the military ship since they learned more than a week ago that equipment bound for Iraq would be loaded at the port. Military vehicles and containers are being sent to the war prior to the yearlong deployment of the 3rd Stryker Brigade from Fort Lewis next month. Convoys of Stryker vehicles and other equipment were routed through downtown last week, where protesters tried to stop them from reaching the port. Police made 16 arrests for interference over three days last week.
....A number of activists said they had rearranged their work schedules or skipped school last week to protest the use of the port for military shipments. Caleb Hollatz missed three days of class at The Evergreen State College and said he probably would lose credits.
Joe Lieberman isn't the only D who gets it, tho.
UPDATE: Progressive Maladaptive Syndrome (PMS) deepens, along with ITMFA buzz. (Hat tip: commenter Dave J.). ITMFA has to do with the Bush impeachment fantasy, and involves a naughty, naughty word that apparently makes its users feel very grown-up. Another feather in Western Washington's cap, 'fa shizzle. UPDATE II: The party's national figureheads continue to set a ridiculous, unconstructive tone. Al Gore tells The Guardian, in tomorrow's edition, that the Bush administration is "a renegade band of rightwing extremists." Yeah. Especially on immigration.

America should warn the Islamic world that the next act of terrorism will result in Mecca being blown off the map; followed by Medina, Tehran, Damascus and so forth. An then follow through.
They may blink, given the choice. Time is on their side. Sooner or later America will allow the Dimocrats back into power. Islam is waiting, licking its chops for that day.
Posted by: Saltherring on May 30, 2006 03:39 PMI hope these moonbats learned a lesson. But it's doubtful. Even the more rational moonbats whom I've debated like to cite Clinton hatred by conservatives from 92-2000. But I don't recall it ever getting to the levels we see today from the hardcore left. Lots of profanity on most left leaning blogs. Outright hatred of our President that almost none of these people even know personally. Slashing of tires, bruning effigies, pouring of paint, attempts to stop shipments to Iraq, etc. These folks are truly unhinged.
I always disliked Clinton for his socialist ideas and his inability to stay away from sexual scandals, but I never hated the man. I don't see how you can have hatred for someone you've never met. You might not agree with their ideas, but this moonbat hatred goes far overboard.
I think it's that Left leaning ideas are finally reaching the end of their service life, and so, cornered and frustrated, all that's left to these moobats is to lash out in fury like animals.
That's why we have pepper spray.

Posted by: Giffy on May 30, 2006 03:55 PMWhat never ceases to amaze me about people like Giffy is how they would've reacted if we hadn't taken out Saddam Hussein after we whacked the hornet's nest in Afghanistan.
They completely ignore the very real (if not obvious) possibility that the fleeing members of al-queda would've been welcomed with open arms in Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Those members would've been put up, trained, funded and given safe haven to improve their training and tactics.
And WHEN this happened, the Left would be screaming (rightfully so, imo) that we knew Saddam Hussein was dangerous. That he used WMD against his own people. That he violated the terms of the 1991 cease-fire mulitple times. That he fired on US aircraft enforcing the UN no-fly zone. That he attempted to assassinate a former US president.
Geez. How stupid is Bush? Saddam is one of the 20th century's most brutal dictators, has twice attacked his neighbors and is actively pursuing weapons of mass destruction. Why is this stupid president not following Clinton's 1998 official position of regime change in Iraq? And now we've got a country full of terrorists being financially supported by our Number 1 pain in the butt, Saddam Hussein. We know Saddam is a bad guy, but stupid Dumbya just let him sit there. Just like his daddy did.
But see, none of that matters to people like Giffy. Because whatever George W. Bush does, Giffy will choose the equal and opposite decision.
Google "boogie to Baghdad" Giffy. It may, just may, knock some sense into your melon.

If they don't like their Port being used, then let them protest to the Port Commissioners, or to any other elected official whose decision results in this action. The soldiers who are doing their duty should not be the targets.
Somebody needs to send the local police some stingball pepper grenades and some tasers so these soldier hating scumbags can get what they deserve.

They have a right to protest anything they want, but they should be savaged any time they disrupt civil society or attempt to interrupt our military. We need another Kent State but this time act responsibly and tell the truth about it. Those who died at Kent State well more than deserved to die. I have no compassion for any of these people any more than I do our enemies in the feild.

They blew up apartments in Russia killing hundreds, they kill Isrealis, they kill Philipeanos, they kill Chinese, they kill Indians, they behead liberals more then they behead conservatives, they kill over a frick'in cartoon. All we can do is fight their thoughts and kill them before they kill us. You peace idiots have no solution to Islamic Fascism - or I'd like to hear one solution from you that would not take at least 3 strong buds and a few shots of whiskey to make sense.
My big problem with the Bush Adminstration is that he keeps making nice with so many of these Islamic facists. We need to fight their facist ideas, unfortunately our commander in chief can barely speak english let alone combat a real idea.
So many liberals have bought into the poor Palenstian people lie that they cannot see Islamic Facism for what it is. Think about it, what does genocide in Darfur (yes genocide by followers of the same idiology) got to do with the West Bank. I dearly wish Liberals would pull their heads out and think for a moment. Posted by: Misty on May 30, 2006 11:41 PMUmmm. I really don't see Saddam welcoming Al Qaeda into his country. Saddam was nothing if not protective of his power and he was also anything but a theocratic. He played up the Islam card when it suited him, but Iraq was not Afghanistan or Iran. In fact Iraq was one of the more secular middle eastern countries. Hell if memory serves Osama was more on Iran’s side. However after our little adventure in Iraq it seems that Al Qaeda is setting up shop there.
As for me not supporting war. I support wars that work. I was in favor of Afghanistan and wish we had sent more troops and fully secured the country and caught bin laden. I would even support a war against North Korea although there potential nuclear weapons makes that problematic. I am not a pacifist, but that does not mean I think all war is good. Iraq is a disaster and likely to stay that way. It is a distractio from the war on Al qaeda and other islamic terrorist groups.
To recap, we could have had a total victory in Afghanistan including the decapitation of Al Qaeda and a contained Iraq, but instead we got a tenuous Afghanistan and an Iraq that’s a haven for terrorists. Heck of a job Bushie
'there is no such thing as gray' sounds to me like the very sort of person who thrives on the net. I imagine an overweight man or women living in their parents basement unable to find a job because 'no one appreciates there overwhelming intellect' and who has no friends because ‘people just can’t handle me’.
Of course, that's not really indicative of anything, is it?

However I need to get the house painted before it rains again. I rearranged my work schedule for more important things.
"Anyone who spouts the word nazi or fascist at people who have different views from themselves, whether liberal, conservative, democrat or republican needs to just shut up and learn the actual meaning of those words."
Many know the meaning of both words very likely better than you ever will. If those words fit the ideals and enforced practices of people, it warrants being pointed out. This "Godwin's Law" has something to it in terms of rhetorical excess but it can also be used as an arbitrary way to shut down useful dialogue in favor of a kind of political correctness. The distinction bears more than peremptory obediance, so I don't buy it. There are Nazis and fascists’ right here amongst us in the good ole U.S.A. and nearly all of them are on the left side of the spectrum. What better artifice to hide behind than trifling political correctness?
If you don't agree with this, make an argument but don't attempt to shame or coerce people out of making useful intelligent observations because you don't happen to understand or prefer them based on your particular connotation of the terms. Such coercive tactics are the stock-in-trade of liberal Fascist Nazis.
During a half-hour lull in the hullaballoo Tuesday night, several activists gathered around Steve Niva, a professor at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, as he led a teach-in about the areas in Iraq where the Strykers are being deployed.
Most of these protesters are probably Evergreen State students and other moonbats that are part of the Olympia Left culture. Interesting to note that they sat right down with the Evergreen State prof for more moonbat programming.
Violence and sit-ins may have been thought provoking back in the 1960s when they were uncommon. Now they are a dime a dozen, and the vast majority of citizens know that such protests have little effect on any government action. Rationally, these moonbats would be far better off, and make a far bigger splash if they all dressed in their nicest clothes, shaved their dreaded hair and went to the Capitol building to voice their concerns in a sincere yet respectful way. The mere fact that moonbats were willing to clean themselves up would be big news. But instead, they resort to these tired tactics that don't work and have long since failed to evoke any symapthy whatsoever from US citizens as a whole.

Posted by: Saltherring on May 31, 2006 12:48 PMI agree in spirit with your comments but when you twist and torture the facts it seriously diminishes your point.
Illegal immigrants will bring lots of people with them, but they will not bring 200 million family members to the USA after becoming citizens based on this legislation.
All illegals will NOT get US citizenship while staying and working in the USA. Guest workers will be required to return to Mexico, and a great many of those who are eligible for citizenship will fail and be deported (so long as Republicans vote for Republicans and force their feet to the fire).
Illegals will spend far more when they are in the shadows as they are today than if they are brought forward by provisions of the new program (so long as Republicans vote for Republicans and insist on enforcement).
The IRS will impute their incomes for the last three years just like states impute the incomes of so-called dead beat dads (so long as Republicans vote for Republicans and force their feet to the fire).
We will consult the Mexican government in building the fence -- with a letter of intent and an approximate schedule. These details are all fluff and nonsense and nothing to get bothered about.
THE IMMIGRATION REFORM ACT SUCKS
You are right to be outraged about this legislation but if you are not accurate about it, you are part of the problem rather than the cure. Its time to start boosting Republicans for doing something rather than ALL of what we would like them to do. If Democrats were in power, we would get ZERO, BUPKUS, NOTHING; hell we would barely even discuss the issue. It seems feeble now, but this legislation represents a step in the right direction (so long as Republicans vote for Republicans and force their feet to the fire).
POPULISM IS THE GREAT WEAKNESS OF DEMOCRACY
Only if Republicans are elected can we coerce them into doing the right things. The media feeds all of us mixed messages about these issues because they have an agenda outside the best interests of America; boosting liberalism. Republicans are afraid of losing their elections based on what they perceive as exercising popularly unelectable positions. Please don't be fooled by this or let your best judgment be overcome by anger.
I am with you but PLEASE USE YOUR INTELLECT ABOUT THIS RATHER THAN YOUR PASSION
Many Republicans are wrong about the electoral dynamics, but so are you if you expect Congress and the administration to do everything you and I may want about illegal immigration all at once.
Honestly, this will all work out for conservatives and America if we keep our heads while the liberals are losing theirs.
Thanks for the list.
Posted by: Amused by liberals on May 31, 2006 01:35 PMYou wrote... "when people protest members of the military what they are doing is giving them the knowledge that just following orders isn't the only option"
I fail to see how giving my friend the finger as he drives his vehicles to the ship and shouting curse words at him and his soldiers imparts any knowledge other than hate for who these soldiers are and the job they are doing.
Read my post and you'll see that I am not asking anyone to support the war, but simply direct the protest towards those government officials who actually make the decisions that the protesters are angry about.
A few of the protestors flashed a peace sign as they tried to obstruct the vehicles, but beyond that, there was nothing but vile animosity communicated towards the men and women in uniform.
Suggesting that a bunch of hippie kids flipping off soldiers on their way to war will somehow impart knowledge upon the soldiers, who will then mutiny against their commanders and end the war is absolutely absurd and gives an observer cause to think that if these protestors are that stupid about their course of communication, their cause may be equally lacking in merit.
This has nothing to do with effecting real change, and everything to do with a deep seated animosity towards the men and women in the military. Soldiers, like everyone else in this country have diverse opinions, and I am sure there are plenty who disagree with the war. Obstructing these soldiers as they get ready to ship out, with vulgarity and hate does nothing to help them.
A wiser person than me once said that each person owes it to their cause to fight in the most educted and effective manner possible. I believe it is undisputable that these protestors are doing nothing for their cause, and may likely be working to increase public sentiment against their position.
So I say break out all the nasty less lethal tools in the domestic LE arsenal and give the scum a jolt to the system!

This is partly what our troops are dying for, an Islamic Republic that wants to kill Christians. I cannot vote for R's anymore until they start reflecting my values again. The imposition of Sharia law is exactly what Osama wanted, little did Mr. Bin Laden realize that George Bush would be the person to make good on his dream.

Posted by: KS on June 1, 2006 09:27 PMThe exact title of Afghanistan is the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. See www.af if you don't believe me. The following (below) is the start of the current Afghani Constitution.
It is under this constitution that a Christian could be lawfully subjected to the death penalty. Only by declaring the Christian to be insane was the death penalty avoided. This is the government that George Bush enabled and help put in place. All laws in Afghanistan are subject to Sharia Law (Islamic Law) which demands the execution of coverts from Islam. No president from FDR to Reagan set up communist countries to fight communism. No president set up facist countries to fight facism. But this is exactly what GWB has done, as he tries to make nice with Radical Islam. One of Osama Bin Laden's major goals is to establish Sharia Law, and now thanks to the help of GWB he is getting his wish in Afghanistan and probably Iraq shortly. If it was not for the Sunni Insurgency, Sharia Law would already be in place in Iraq. What a weird world, were some of our enemies are fighting are to be secular, and other are fighting us to have religious facism and we are simultaneously doing both! Our state department bashes the secularist in Russia, Uzbekistan, and most of Central Asia who fight religious facism, Our pentagon bashes the religious facist in the middle east who fight the secularist. I think the sum total of our foriegn policy is to basically piss off everyone.
