Read my earlier post from this evening, "Mail Ballot Horror Show (VI): "Witnessed" ballots " for context and then come back and see this example that Bob Edelman just e-mailed me: copies of two mail ballots cast in Pierce County in November 2004 under two different registrations with the name Thaddeus Gaddy (same address, born on the same date, one in 1921, the other in 1922). One of the ballots appears to have been signed by the voter, the other ballot was "witnessed" on the pretext that the voter is unable to sign his name. Edelman's comments follow in the extended entry.
No-excuses absentee voting is bad enough, but If we're all forced to vote by mail we might as well dispense with the pretense of elections as we know them and admit that they're little more than contests to stuff the ballot boxes with the likes of votes from mailbox residents and out-of-state friends and witnessed ballots. Any public official who tries to tell you that the current regime of voting by mail is a secure and legitimate way to choose our government deserves to be tarred and feathered.
Edelman: The attached illustrates a major problem with our absentee ballot laws. Two Thaddeus Gaddys are registered at the same Tacoma address. They share the same birthday but the years of birth are 1921 and 1922. Both cast ballots in the 2004 General Election. One signed his envelope but the older Thaddeus was unable to sign so he marked an 'X' that was witnessed by two people.
Our laws do not require witnesses to identify themselves so it is next to impossible to locate them from just their signatures. Even if they could be found, the act of witnessing gives no validity to the voter's identity -- all they need witness is that someone put an 'X' on the ballot envelope.
Here is a multiple choice quiz. Pick one of the following:
How many other ballots were returned without signatures but accepted because two unidentifiable people signed as witnesses?

The system is already this way. The "Democrat Producers" get to walk away with all of our tax dollars and pimp their Candidate Idols after each election season.
We simply need to rename the current system to reflect it's lack of integrity and seriousness and point out that it is strictly for entertainment. Instead of KCREALS, it should be renamed:
Democrat Idol

McDimwit is an odds-on favorite to set a world record for times stepping on his dick during a radio show.
Poll voting is safer and better. The forced mail voting is a sham and a shame.
Posted by: JP on May 26, 2006 09:06 AMSince I live in Seattle, most of my friends vote for the dark side and are actually good people, even if they are clueless about the issues. But quite frankly, because of the control the media has over what the public sees, most don't realize how critical this issue is. The press has once again failed to inform the public as to what is really going on with the King County Elections Department, so most people don't understand what a huge mistake all mail voting would be. Golly, you don't think the bias of the local press has anything to do with the unions or "I've never lived in the real world" journalists?
Posted by: Burdabee on May 26, 2006 11:18 AMWithout some sort of meaningful security, absentee ballots are an open invitation to fraud. In the days when most votes were cast in polling places, the limited number of absentee ballots limited the amount of mischief. But going to 100% mail-in balloting would throw the door wide open.
Posted by: supercat on May 26, 2006 03:29 PMI've been so frustrated with the way government works and want desperately to do more.
Thanks for showing me how I can vote more often without going to jail. I'll get on it first thing Tuesday Morning. Please, please, please tell me it's not to late to register and register and register for the primary...
I love the internet. It's so informative.
Posted by: want to stay out of jail on May 26, 2006 07:07 PMYou must have missed the Washington State Democrats memo on this. They are the experts!
Posted by: Deborah on May 26, 2006 09:03 PMAs usual the tyrannists are short sighted.

Read the Seattle Times and go to the King County Elections website for more information on
how to be a corrupt petty criminal Democrat. They are teaching lessons daily, but they are really not necessary.
As a Democrat, you know that liberal pettiness and criminality come naturally to you.
