Breaking News: Karl Rove [not] indicted [again]

Our good friend Eli Sanders of The Stranger was the first local blogger to break the political blockbuster story of the decade last Friday: Karl Rove has been indicted:

it's late in the day, so I'm only going to give you the most certain-sounding of these indictment predictions. It comes from Truthout:

Within the last week, Karl Rove told President Bush and Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten, as well as a few other high level administration officials, that he will be indicted in the CIA leak case and will immediately resign his White House job when the special counsel publicly announces the charges against him, according to sources.
Oops. The Truthout story was baseless. I think the website that broke the "story" is called Truthout, because there is no truth in it.

This wasn't the first time that Sanders was gulled by a bogus Rove indictment rumor --

April 28, 2006

"I felt burned by all that speculation last fall about an imminent Rove indictment, because it all turned out not to be true... Or, maybe, not yet true".
April 21, 2006:
"Rove Indictment Coming? Truthout says it's likely."
December 14, 2005:
"The chatter that Rove may be indicted soon is getting louder, and as Dan noted yesterday, there’s even dates being bandied about. Everything suggests that if it happens, it will happen before the new year."
October 26, 2005
* But fast forwarding to now, and to the blogs, Raw Story has the juciest news, reporting that when the grand jury convened today, Fitzgerald asked it to indict both Rove and Libby on perjury and obstruction of justice
Keep at it, Eli. One of these days you'll report something correctly, whether it's the Rove story or something else.

1. Of course we'll all be very interested in your comments when he finally is indicted (as if there is any doubt).

2. This is just silly. That said, I don't like Karl Rove - he's Lee Atwater without a conscience.

His win-at-all-costs and ratf@#k-the-other-guy approach has brought Republican victory at the price of civility, adherence to principle, and maybe the party's very soul. Maybe I'm old fashioned.

3. I am kind of sorry he did not get indicted, but maybe he will.
That might have put more pressure on the White House. Rove is the voice behind Bush selling out this country to Mexico and the voice of the neo-Cons, This guy has ratcheted up the polarization that is going on in this country between the R's and the D's.

In spite of what came out of Bush's mouth tonight, I'll believe it makes any difference when I see it. This is coming from someone who typically loathes liberal Democrats. Face it, when it comes to the border, Bush and Clinton are no different and Bush is parsing words just like Clinton did.

4. The left has been salivating over getting of Rove ever since they were trounced back in 2000. Claims need not be truthful at all to satisfy them, just hints of scandal are good enough.

I fail to see how Rove gets the blame for incivility in today's politics, that has been coming from the left as far back as I can remember.

6. The libs are salivating over this...They're so incensed that Rove whipped their butts over the last several election cycles this is the only way they can beat him. I doubt that Rove will be indicted.

Typical liberal mind set; wanting to see someone "frog-marched" out of the WH on trumped up charges, while members of their party flout the law, break the law, and ignore court orders, among other offenses.

But what else do you expect from a party whose values include perjury, official misconduct, fraud, deception, obstruction of justice, lying, cheating, rigging elections, taking private property, and surrender.

7. Thanks Stefan! I knew you'd find a story that would coax Witless out from under his rock.

There's something particularly satisfying with blind partisanship when it compels someone to pluck his own eyes out in favor of maintaining the illusion. In witless's case, the liberal (no pun intended) expression of BDS has been so completely knee-jerk that one must wonder how he can manage to motivate his enormous girth whilst spazzing about.

Never let the facts that Rove never did anything immoral, unethical, or illegal get in the way of a good tantrum there Witless! Get out there and shake it fat boy!

9. Take a moment to apply some lip balm, Steffy.

Fellating Doktor Karl and whistling past the graveyard on behalf of Der Administration seem to have rendered you incapable of putting forth any genuine ideas.

I trust that you and your 29% (and ever diminishing) slice of the electorate enjoy that ever deepening pit of ideological guano into which you have dug yourself.

Bon Appetit!

10. Oh please, just because a poll shows that at this moment in time only 29% "approve" that does not translate into votes for the opposition in the future. Disapproving conservatives will change their own, not vote for loonies.

Surely, even you are smart enough to realize this.

11. Wow, Sound Politics accuses someone else of making a false prediction! Tell us again, O wise court observers, how Judge Bridges will rule?

It's not Eli Sanders' fault that "Republican" and "indicted" now sound natural together. They've been working long and hard to make that connection themselves.

12. Karl Rove is as fine, decent and honest a man as any who has ever walked into the White House and that is why liberal Democrats want to try to smear him.

Liberals are so twisted with their own corrupt hatred, perversion and depravity that if they cannot make their perceived enemies look as bad as they know that they are, they go into jags of depression. The only thing Rove has done was to help throw a wrench into the liberal communist suck-a$$ machine, restore our economy, win the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and put decency back into the White House.

Scummy morons that support Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy love the idea of punishing people on false charges because they are vindictive spiteful zealots who love to spite those who disagree with their phony pretense of moral superiority. Those who act as if Rove's indictment is a fait accompli are literally stupid enough to believe that there is something in the Valerie Plame farce to indict someone (anyone) about. The Valerie Plame farce indicates the desperation liberals feel at having absolutely no character, ideas, intellectual honesty, intellect or integrity.

If the Bush administration was one tenth as arbitrary and corrupt as liberals say, they would have eliminated the problems liberals pose in aways that no Democrat can stop, but never mind the facts, this isn't about truth -- it is about petty liberal partisanship. If Republicans took even a little bit of the same attitude, we would have no one to argue with because there wouldn't be a Democrat left in office.

A liberal Democrat indicted Tom Delay but will never convict him of anything because he is not guilty of anything, they may yet indict Rove but it will only be because they will stoop to anything. That they want to shows how little else they feeeel is important to do -- like formulate ideas to lead anything . . . or . . . help anyone.

Liberals are sick jokes.

14. Wow, did some liberal write that, as a very (c)rude parody of modern Republican "thought"? I would hope that liberals show a more deft command of words ("... vindictive spiteful zealots who love to spite... ") but it still reads like a parody:

"Those who act as if Rove's indictment is a fait accompli are literally stupid enough to believe that there is something in the Valerie Plame farce to indict someone (anyone) about. The Valerie Plame farce indicates the desperation liberals feel at having absolutely no character, ideas, intellectual honesty, intellect or integrity."

The Vice-President's (former) Chief of Staff has been indicted on multiple counts of perjury, all relating directly to Traitor Novak's felonious destruction of Valerie Plame's career. (Remember when lying under oath was a bad thing? BTW, that does not imply that anyone named Clinton was ever actually indicted for anything. Republicans spent much of 1995 and 1996 falsely claiming that Mrs. Clinton would be indicted.)

I love especially this "proof" of White House goodness:

"If the Bush administration was one tenth as arbitrary and corrupt as liberals say, they would have eliminated the problems liberals pose in aways that no Democrat can stop..."

That does not imply innocence, only incompetence. A desire to hurt one's (real or perceived) enemies means nothing without the ability to do so. They tried to smear Ambassador Wilson's credibility by exposing his wife. Now a prosecutor rips into their White House, and Mr. Wilson looks like a godly fount of wisdom compared to his attackers. These guys make their idol, Richard Nixon, look smooth and polished.

My guess is that anything that would get paddy-whacked out of his crypt and to actually defend this goofy witch-hunt with a straight face (so tell me paddy-whack, do you even get a reflection when you look in a mirror?) must be striking the right nerves!

Wilson outted his own old lady. Novak whored the info as part of his gossip column. Lefty morons (but I repeat myself) like paddy-whack and Witless are desperate to drag the rest of humanity down to their degenerate level, and seize upon any opportunity, no matter how foolish, in that effort.

Someone should run a very convincing, but fake story that plays that heartstrings of all liberals. It would be funny to see them falling all overthemselves with glee. Just when they think it's wonderful, pull the rug out from under them.

I suppose now that you know that the elections staff are Teamsters Union members you are going to tell us that there is no reason anyone might ever think that having our votes counted by them in backrooms is questionable.

I'm sure you would also be very comfortable to have the Building Industry Association of Washington do the final tally and issue the final elections certification.
While the BIAW is not in the habit of creating spreadsheets without column summaries, and making false reports to the voters like the Teamsters en camp with petty criminals like Deanron, they can add, subtract, and discern the difference between right and wrong.

28. I remember hearing about how the trial lawyers support the dems, but they both deny it. According to this, it sounds like it's true:

"Fuzzy on the Details?
The crowd at the annual meeting of the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association came to its feet this weekend at the news that senior presidential adviser Karl Rove had been indicted on perjury charges in the CIA leak case. Trouble is, it wasn't true.
The rumor appears to have been started by a left-wing Web site called, of all things, Truthout.org, which reported that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald went over the charges with Rove's attorney for 15 hours on Friday, and that Rove later informed the White House of his impending resignation.
Rove's lawyer says no such meeting occurred and that Fitzgerald was in Chicago on Friday. And a spokesman for Rove denied any such conversations with White House officials. Truthout.org, meanwhile, says it stands by its story."

30. "Which is it? Is this an "incompetant administration"? or a brilliantly evil one? For the life of me I can't see how they can possibly be BOTH!"

Why should we liberals have to choose? Fascism, cronyism, and incompetence have, historically, made for very cozy bedfellows. Stalin's regime excelled in domestic spying, imprisonment of dissidents, and mass murder of internal enemies, real or imagined. It abjectly, utterly, totally failed to protect itself against external invasion.

Can anyone think of a modern, unelected regime whose criminal operatives spy upon their domestic opponents, but have failed to protect their homeland against external attack?

31. Getting back to the original post, we can understand the mistake which Eli Sanders made. One member of the executive branch has already been indicted for lying about the Plame case. Mr. Rove has appeared before the same grand jury multiple times, and looks like a prime suspect for feeding Traitor Novak the covert identity of Ms. Plame. Prosecutor Fitzgerald has shown no hesitation against using tough tactics; he squeezed that well-connected liar, Judith Miller, until she told the truth.

As for the errors which Sound Politics made in the election challenge lawsuit, no such mitigating circumstances apply. Judge Bridges had made clear the burden of proof which the plaintiffs faced, a burden imposed by the legislature and legal precedent. By the end of the two-week argument phase, the plaintiffs had completely failed to produce a single piece of evidence in support of their case. Despite the total lack of evidence-- not one felon was shown to have voted for Gregoire-- Sound Politics boldly claimed that Judge Bridges would void the election.

When Sound Politics apologizes for this error, it can criticize others for their mistakes. After all, conservatives stand for individual responsibility, right?

33. Maybe Rove is not guilty, but as a conservative I do not care for the attitude of the Bush Administration. Their arrogance causes polarization. He has got in some good digs at liberal Democrats, but is a double edged sword. Machievellian is a description which has validity when speaking of Karl Rove. Driven by Greed and Power - "Power corrupts" - time will tell how corrupt this Administration is - A Kerry Administration would have been more corrupt, as Clinton was proven to be.

Rove and Bush are RINO's much of the time (more accurately Neo-Cons), who believe in Big Government and Globalism - they really want open borders. WIth that said, I like Bush's Supreme Court appointments, but his performance for the 2nd term gets a D-. He has not followed up on Tort Reform, had no coherent plan that he could communicate to the people for Social Security and is finally showing a half-hearted attempt to secure the border, while Iraq goes on. Finally, I voted for him twice. A majority of the Democrat politicians are sleezier and with little or no conscience when it comes to serving the people who elected them - witness King County and Olympia. Sad !!

35. KS,

Wise up.

Everything looks easier than it really is and doing the right things means compromising, taking hits, and losing popularity. If you have ever been responsible for peoples lives in trying conditions you would know that. Bush is doing the right things, and the best proof of it is that liberals hate his guts enough to completely surrender their sanity in exchange for the mere idea of his defeat. Just because you don't understand why he does some of the things he does, doesn't mean liberal garbage reasoning applies. Aid them now and you are worse than they are.

Clinton sold yours and my a$$es down the road because he wanted to be loved and admired and now Bush has to contend with the insanity, stupidity, and the outright treason of liberals like Paddy Crap who believe in fairy tales, rap song lyrics, and morons like Ted Kennedy, and Al Gore.

Many of us understand despite the MSM prejudice that Iraq is a resounding success, but it will continue to go on a lot longer (many years) -- get used to it -- war is never easy or pretty.

Leadership is keeping your head when all of those about you are losing theirs. GW Bush is keeping a cool head, his eye on the ball, and his attention on carefully guiding America through dangerous waters. Liberal dip-Shits are flagellating themselves about Valerie (non issue) Plame.

Tort reform is small potatoes, and no one can force Social Security reform on idiots who will not see the truth. I agree whole heartedly that these things are dissapointing, but you cannot expect a President -- any President -- to make up for the imbecility of the likes of a political party full of morons like Unkl Witz, Bartelby or Paddy crap.

There are liberal Republicans making things difficult as well, and you are coming dangerously close to acting like one of them. Please knock it off -- those of us that are sane and responsible need you. Unfortunately it is popular to be an idiot like these people and if they have their way, soon you will be lamenting the fact that Bush is no longer in charge.

The only thing that can defeat America is the war against GW Bush. Not because of who he is, but what he truly represents -- honest, straightforward, unvarnished leadership.

From Wayne Madsen Report:

Several sources have told WMR that an announcement concerning the indictment of Rove will be made on Friday, May 19 generally following the same scenario from October 28, 2005 -- the posting of the indictment on the Special Prosecutor's web site followed by a press conference at Main Justice.

From OpEdNews:

It is now 12:39pm on May 17, five days after the publication of Leopold’s article on Truthout. I spoke a few moments ago with William Rivers Pitt who reassured me both that he and Jason were not offended by my Monday article and that they stick by their assertions 100%. I can not tell the entire contents of the conversation as much of it was off the record, but as a result of it, I am going to hold off further speculation until the end of the day on Friday, May 19, or until, how shall I put it, events obviously dictate otherwise. Again, here is the interaction which occurred on 12 May:

I said:

Are the ballots going to counted at a different location than they have been? Will partisan and non-partisan observers no longer be able to observe the ballot counting process?

"...then they try to take away your right to choose how to vote, and to force all of us to have our votes counted in Backroom Alleys by member of the Teamsters Union."

How are the teamsters involved? I'm sure it would be a terrible thing if the ballots were counted by people with decent wages and health care benefits.

Will there be options for those who would rather not fill out their ballots at home or mail them in?

Wouldn't a more uniform voting system throughout the county make it easier to ensure accuracy?
