Joel Connelly has an epiphany

Joel Connelly, the contumelious liberal columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer shared an interesting epiphany in his column this Monday about 9/11:

Ponder the basic message:

Our powerful federal government bungled warnings, ignored warnings from the field, and had no strategy to counter a homeland attack.

Ordinary Americans, caught on a hijacked plane, instinctively figured out what to do.

This isn't such a surprising revelation to those of us who instinctively trust individuals more than we trust government. But it's nice to see such sentiments expressed in such a bastion of big-government liberalism as the Seattle P-I. It also resonates with the current discussion over mail-only voting -- ask yourself who you would trust more to help ensure that your ballot is handled correctly -- a group of your neighbors volunteering for poll duty, or a warehouse full of Teamsters, out of view of the public and working under the direction of political appointees?

1. No, no, no.

The issue isn't individuals versus government; it's chimpybushitlerove and his incompetent administration versus decent, deserving people who just want to wprk hard and live their lives without being spied on...

(how did I do?)

2. Ordinary Americans also figured out that we should attack Islamic Totalitarianism on 9/12/2001. We are still waiting for our government to figure this out as well. Here's a clue: STRIKE IRAN NOW.

3. "ask yourself who you would trust more to help ensure that your ballot is handled correctly -- a group of your neighbors volunteering for poll duty, or a warehouse full of Teamsters, out of view of the public and working under the direction of political appointees?"

Hmmm....Is this a trick question?

Neighborhood poll workers tend to represent ALL political parties...whereas Teamsters represent only the Democrat party. They make no attempt to hide their affiliation with the Dems - as they call numerous times before elections to try to sway voters to vote "D". The caller ID will always state some union local number and the person is always pushing for a Democrat vote...

This shouldn't be legal! Just another reason NOT to have All Mail voting in King County..or ANYWHERE!

4. South County-------

Facts are inconvenient things, aren't they?

5. Connelly obviously forgot his good home training for a moment.

6. I'm sure his answer is bigger government. Not such an epiphany.

7. Connelly also had some interesting things to say about Dwight "Cuba" Pelz, and his anti-Cantwell propaganda slip-up earlier this week.

8. I always fear Joel Cornholey "weighing-in" on any issue. With his 350lbs. of Liberalism hanging over his belt, he is more interested in being a Michael Moore wannabe than being truthful.
Anyway, Mr. PhatAss is merely a pawn of the Seattle LEFTIST PINHEADED establishment. Any KLOWN like Cornholey who justifies registering to vote at his Island County weekend retreat and justifies his pals who never lived in Washington also voting from his 700 sq. ft. retreat cuz "they might live there someday" is beyond contempt.
Hey Joel, where exactly does that 4th voter live?? You know, your "gardener" who is also registered at your Phlop-House????????????????

9. Would Joel C. had said it this way if the Democrats were in the White House when 9/11/01 occurred ? Probably not - he is slightly objective, but face it, it is pile-on time on Bush - and he has some of it coming.

I am appalled when I heard the White House was tipping off the Mexican Consulate on the locations of Minutemen ! This has been verified. The President owes us an explanation - he is appearing to be two-faced about this issue. What is the difference between he and Clinton on the borders ? Not distinguishable as I see it !

10. Joel Connelly should have a Enema of the mouth and writing hand. That is the only thing that might save that paper!

11. Who would I trust more?..my vote is definitely for the neighbors volunteering for poll duty. The very thought of those public employee union members who endorsed Gregoire and poured money into her campaign counting the ballots with no accountability is really sickening.

12. Unbelievable! Jamie Goerlich has the unmitigaged gall to spew forth about how our security agencies failed to prevent 9/11? The main architect for muzzling the agencies in the first place, and making it impossible for them to coordinate, share information, work together, now is complaining about that very situation? Somebody hand me an aspirin and a barf bag, please.

13. The first paragraph may apply to Pearl Harbor or any other attack suffered during the last century.

Of course ordinary Americans figured out what to do. That is the nature of our world. And the Internet we are using to post on this site demonstrates what Americans are capable of doing if left to their own devices and not overly regulated and/or taxed to submission.

14. Cynical,

Please don't hold back on our account.

So . . . JOEL CORNHOLEY . . . what about it eh??

15. Joanie Balterbash in todays TIMES is getting in on the action as well. She call Pelz a "lefty" in her defense of Cantwells campaign. She goes on to critize some of his Eastern Washington recruits (Imagine that, a hardcore leftist commie doesn't play well in Eastern Washington).

How does that saying go? Every once in a while even a blind leftist socialist from the "206" can stumble upon the truth.

16. I'm with Michelle on this one. It is a call for more government, and one run well (i.e by a D, and especially not by GWB). The comparison is if individuals (who are not as bright and all-knowning as government) can figure it out, then surely a bigger, better, government (read Democratic) could have done much better to protect the little people.

Unfortunately no epiphany!

17. How's Joel C's voter fraud issue going up there in Island County? Did he pass along the illegal ballots that were delivered to his cabin so non-residents (who intended to retire someday on Whidbey Island) could vote? The two illegal voters, according to voting records participated in elections dating back several years, but recently have withdrawn their registrations after publicity here on Sound Politics.com. But what about Joel C's complicity in this fraudulent voting?

18. joel connele doesn't need epiphanies - but he could use an enema.......

Posted by: alphabet soup on May 11, 2006 08:26 AM
19. Connely is only saying that because the Reps are in charge. Had in been a Demo administration, he'd have nothing but praise. He is a political hack.

Posted by: pbj on May 11, 2006 09:12 AM
20. It doesn't really make any difference who can do what better anymore. They (as in big government) has won. The Mercatus Register has just published these interesting "Red Tape Rising" figures:

(first figure total pages in Federal register, second figure number of Federal regulators)

1970: 20,036 90,000
1980: 87,012 146,000
1990: 53,620 152,000
2000: 67,702 175,000
2006: 78,000 241,000

Federal regulations cost the U.S. economy around 1 Trillion (with a 'T') or about $8000.00 per household a year. No matter what Connely wants/wishes secretly or overtly Bush has helped them win.

21. Vote libertarian, and you will never have to hear: " I am with the government and I am here to help you"

Posted by: Jason Woodruff on May 11, 2006 12:34 PM
22. Jason Woodruff,

A vote for the libertarian party is a vote against the Republican Party and for Democrats. Wise up.
Libertarians have a lot in common with conservatives but not enough to form a viable political party that can win on any practical scale worthy of note.

Libertarians have some things in common with liberal rats as well but not nearly enough to be happy under the rule of a liberal power structure.
If you like liberal politics and policies better than conservative ones . . . vote libertarian.

23. In his recent article Joel Connelly solemnly assured us that “Ex-Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick was not here to… grind axes.”

Try putting the phrase “Gorelick Wall” into the internet search engine of your choice, and settle back for a view of things you have been missing if you get your information from those who write for the Seattle P-I. You will get over 200,000 hits on Google using that search. But amazingly, if you search the Seattle P-I website, you will not get a single one.

How could a columnist write about someone who was so involved in the failure of imagination that was 9-11, without mentioning that while she lectures us she was herself part of the failure, and not a small one at that? There is a technical term for this type of writing... it is called "lying".

24. The Republicans had better start showing some cajones and shoot back at the Dems loudly or else they will be on the short end come November. The future is up to them and it starts with what kind of an immigration bill the Senate decides to pass. Not a threat, just a promise.

Sad, but I don't think that the President really cares about what most people are concerned about, by his actions. I'd like to be proven wrong, but am not holding my breath.

25. I really hate to say this, but I am beginning to wonder what's up with W's administration and the border, especially with our own Border Service advising the Mexican government of the exact location of the Minute Men lookout locations. What's that about? It's about the only thing I'm miffed with Bush about. This love affair with Mexico and Vincente Fox has been apparent since his election, and I have always wondered what the heck that was all about?

Posted by: katomar on May 12, 2006 12:47 PM
26. Katomar,

Bide your time. I believe (though I cannot prove) the facts will show that this is another coup by the media ~droning between the lines~ about a complex situation the administration cannot clarify without exposing more significant problems wrought by our enemies.

You read history, imagine FDR being forced to explain ANY PART OF THE EUROPEAN OR JAPANESE campaigns.
Mexico is taking advantage of the political vulnerability of the Bush administration and they will pay in a big way for it.
Be patient and don't lose heart.

Bush is doing the right things. Otherwise he would clamor to restore his popularity without substance like slick Willie did.
He's the real deal, (he hasn't mislead or lied to us us so far) and what they are doing will make sense soon enough.
