Joel Connelly, the contumelious liberal columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer shared an interesting epiphany in his column this Monday about 9/11:
Ponder the basic message:This isn't such a surprising revelation to those of us who instinctively trust individuals more than we trust government. But it's nice to see such sentiments expressed in such a bastion of big-government liberalism as the Seattle P-I. It also resonates with the current discussion over mail-only voting -- ask yourself who you would trust more to help ensure that your ballot is handled correctly -- a group of your neighbors volunteering for poll duty, or a warehouse full of Teamsters, out of view of the public and working under the direction of political appointees? Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at May 10, 2006 05:26 PM | Email ThisOur powerful federal government bungled warnings, ignored warnings from the field, and had no strategy to counter a homeland attack.
Ordinary Americans, caught on a hijacked plane, instinctively figured out what to do.
The issue isn't individuals versus government; it's chimpybushitlerove and his incompetent administration versus decent, deserving people who just want to wprk hard and live their lives without being spied on...
(how did I do?)
Posted by: South County on May 10, 2006 05:45 PMHmmm....Is this a trick question?
Neighborhood poll workers tend to represent ALL political parties...whereas Teamsters represent only the Democrat party. They make no attempt to hide their affiliation with the Dems - as they call numerous times before elections to try to sway voters to vote "D". The caller ID will always state some union local number and the person is always pushing for a Democrat vote...
This shouldn't be legal! Just another reason NOT to have All Mail voting in King County..or ANYWHERE!

Posted by: MrEdly on May 10, 2006 06:42 PMI am appalled when I heard the White House was tipping off the Mexican Consulate on the locations of Minutemen ! This has been verified. The President owes us an explanation - he is appearing to be two-faced about this issue. What is the difference between he and Clinton on the borders ? Not distinguishable as I see it !
Posted by: KS on May 10, 2006 09:22 PMOf course ordinary Americans figured out what to do. That is the nature of our world. And the Internet we are using to post on this site demonstrates what Americans are capable of doing if left to their own devices and not overly regulated and/or taxed to submission.

So . . . JOEL CORNHOLEY . . . what about it eh??
Posted by: Amused by liberals on May 11, 2006 12:02 AMHow does that saying go? Every once in a while even a blind leftist socialist from the "206" can stumble upon the truth.
Posted by: Smokie on May 11, 2006 07:34 AMUnfortunately no epiphany!
Posted by: Fred on May 11, 2006 07:44 AM(first figure total pages in Federal register, second figure number of Federal regulators)
1970: 20,036 90,000
1980: 87,012 146,000
1990: 53,620 152,000
2000: 67,702 175,000
2006: 78,000 241,000
Federal regulations cost the U.S. economy around 1 Trillion (with a 'T') or about $8000.00 per household a year. No matter what Connely wants/wishes secretly or overtly Bush has helped them win.
Posted by: G Jiggy on May 11, 2006 10:09 AMA vote for the libertarian party is a vote against the Republican Party and for Democrats. Wise up.
Libertarians have a lot in common with conservatives but not enough to form a viable political party that can win on any practical scale worthy of note.
Libertarians have some things in common with liberal rats as well but not nearly enough to be happy under the rule of a liberal power structure.
If you like liberal politics and policies better than conservative ones . . . vote libertarian.
Try putting the phrase “Gorelick Wall” into the internet search engine of your choice, and settle back for a view of things you have been missing if you get your information from those who write for the Seattle P-I. You will get over 200,000 hits on Google using that search. But amazingly, if you search the Seattle P-I website, you will not get a single one.
How could a columnist write about someone who was so involved in the failure of imagination that was 9-11, without mentioning that while she lectures us she was herself part of the failure, and not a small one at that? There is a technical term for this type of writing... it is called "lying".
Posted by: Sherlock on May 11, 2006 05:18 PMSad, but I don't think that the President really cares about what most people are concerned about, by his actions. I'd like to be proven wrong, but am not holding my breath.
Posted by: KS on May 11, 2006 07:16 PMBide your time. I believe (though I cannot prove) the facts will show that this is another coup by the media ~droning between the lines~ about a complex situation the administration cannot clarify without exposing more significant problems wrought by our enemies.
You read history, imagine FDR being forced to explain ANY PART OF THE EUROPEAN OR JAPANESE campaigns.
Mexico is taking advantage of the political vulnerability of the Bush administration and they will pay in a big way for it.
Be patient and don't lose heart.
Bush is doing the right things. Otherwise he would clamor to restore his popularity without substance like slick Willie did.
He's the real deal, (he hasn't mislead or lied to us us so far) and what they are doing will make sense soon enough.
