Sen. Bill Finkbeiner (R-Kirkland) just sent out this press release:
OLYMPIA…Senator Bill Finkbeiner announced today that he will not run again for his Senate seat this fall. Finkbeiner serves the 45th District which includes Kirkland, Redmond, Woodinville, Duvall and Sammamish.I like Sen. Finkbeiner and wish him well in his new pursuits. Rumor has it that Rep. Toby Nixon will run for the Senate seat.“The first word that comes to mind when I think about representing my district in the Legislature is ‘grateful’,” said Finkbeiner, who was first elected to the House of Representatives fourteen years ago. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve in the Legislature, but at this time my family and I have agreed that the time is right to step aside and give someone else an opportunity to represent the district as Senator while I turn my attention to a career outside of politics.”
That said, it kind of sucks to now have an open house seat to have to babysit.
Any word on who's running to replace Nixon? Oh, and who's running to oust that one-term yo-yo Springer?
Posted by: Cliff on April 27, 2006 11:37 AMThis is a great and worst day for the State Senate, and certainly a bad day for the State House.
That said, I know of some good solid Republicans who could take over.
Posted by: A Watchdog on April 27, 2006 12:30 PMHow's you little Republican ship?
There seem to be a lot of rats scurrying away from it.
And why did old Dino not challenge Cantwell?
Oh yeah, the "family" thing. Yeah, that's probably not bullshit.
God how I would hate to be Falwell-sucking Republican right now. It must be a terrible feeling when suddenly nobody believes your crap any more.

Who wouldn't beg to have you for a car pool partner?
Please tell me that you chain smoke.
Posted by: Andy on April 27, 2006 01:31 PMHis vote for 2661 would've helped him in his reelection campaign. The 45th district (as is most of the Eastside) is becoming much more moderate and beginning to lean Dem. A vote for civil rights could only have helped him if he chose to stay in the Senate.

Posted by: JDH on April 27, 2006 02:10 PMThe Republican congress is acting like Democrats, eh? Or perhaps they have been lying to you, you ignorant little toad. You make me giggle with your chirping in the face of doom.
The Republicans steal from the future. And they kill so many tens of thousands for their lies.
Death awaits.
How many abortions have occurred in the last 30+ years? Who champions unrestricted abortion? How much of our country's future was stolen from us?
Your putrid rhetoric pales in comparison.
Nixon's work on trying to strengthen the election laws was a breath of fresh air. I hope he does well.
Posted by: SouthernRoots on April 27, 2006 05:48 PMI’ am with you pal... I feel Finkbeiner should be placed in the Washington State R.I.N.O. Hall of Shame!!!
PS. Fort Ord was great today!!! 70 and no wind.
If we lose all of the RINOs in the state, who will half of our posters have to kick around anymore?
You can't have wild conspiracies about some mythical mafia leading the State GOP off a cliff without Fink.
With that said, Toby Nixon is a good trade up, assuming we can get someone to fill yet another empty slot on the Eastside ballot. (And win!)
Posted by: Reporterward on April 27, 2006 09:45 PMIn doing so I made it abundantly clear that they were ‘on probation’ with me as far as contributions go.
To make a long story short, every Friday afternoon I get their emails begging money. I respond to these requests with this simple reply ‘Finkbiener and Sam Reed.’ If the State Party is supporting the likes to these two, then they are not working in my interest and I have had a belly full of the State Rerpublican Party hanging me with a rope that I helped to pay for.
I have given to the NRA and will continue to do so, they are the one organization that I have any faith in what so ever. Other than that all of my future contributions will be to individual campaigns after I have vetted the candidates myself.
Maybe there is hope for the Washington State Republican Party after all......

DUVALL CITY COUNCILMAN JEFFREY POSSINGER TO RUN FOR STATE HOUSE SEAT IN 45th LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT
Jeffrey Possinger, Duvall City Councilmember and Eastside business attorney, announced today he will run for the State House seat being vacated by Representative Toby Nixon.
Nixon, who has served five years in the position, announced yesterday he is running for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Bill Finkbeiner. Both Nixon and Finkbeiner have given their endorsement to Possinger.
Possinger said his style of leadership is to work collaboratively on solving problems.
“The issues we face today are new issues,” said Possinger. “And the same old approach to problem solving is not working.”
As the recent acting Mayor of Duvall and now current City Councilmember, Possinger said he plans to bring strategic thinking and vision to Olympia on behalf of the residents of the 45th District.
“Our schools need to prepare students for world competition,” said Possinger. “And we need to focus our state spending on fixing traffic and keeping our economy moving. Partisan bickering and irresponsible deficit spending only takes Washington further off track.”
Possinger said his background in local government and relationships in the region will serve him well in Olympia.
“We need a little less politics and a lot more progress in Olympia,” said Possinger. “With strategic thinking and a common vision we can improve our quality of life and our State’s position in the world economy.”
Representative Toby Nixon, who announced yesterday he would run for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Bill Finkbeiner, said he “enthusiastically” endorses Jeffrey Possinger.
“Jeffrey Possinger is exactly the kind of Representative we need,” said Nixon. “I look forward to working with him as a team to represent the 45th District.”
Possinger is a member of the Suburban Cities Association and a representative on the organization’s Public Issues Committee. He is a member of the Association of Washington Cities, serves on the Jail Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Governing Board of the Committee to End Homelessness in King County. Possinger is the immediate past acting Mayor of Duvall, and a current City Councilmember, where he serves as Mayor Pro Tem.
Possinger is endorsed by Senator Bill Finkbeiner, Representative Toby Nixon, Mayor of Carnation Bill Paulson, Mayor of Bothell, Mark Lamb, Mayor of Kenmore Randy Eastwood, Mayor of Duvall Will Ibershof, and every member of the Duvall City Council, and Michael Young.
Shelli and Jeffrey Possinger have been married for eight years. Shelli Possinger works as the Chief Financial Officer for the Emergency Physicians at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.
