The Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer have published dozens of news articles on the topic of "DeLay" and "ethics" since 2005. The Times published four unsigned editorials and a number of signed columns on with the keywords "DeLay" and "ethics" this year and last. The P-I published seven unsigned editorials on that subject during the same period. I salute our local dailies for shining a spotlight on the ethical lapses of elected officials.
I can't help but wonder how much attention either paper will give this story: "Senior Democrat Exits House Ethics Panel"
Rep. Mollohan, Top Democrat on House Ethics Committee, Leaving Panel to Defend Financial Conduct ... The Wall Street Journal reported two weeks ago that Mollohan steered millions of dollars in appropriations to nonprofit groups in his district with much of the money going to organizations run by people who contribute to the lawmaker's campaigns.Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at April 22, 2006 12:43 PM | Email This
NONE! "Move along, there's nothing to see here."
Whatever else could you possibly expect?
Posted by: Cheryl on April 22, 2006 02:30 PMContrasts quite sharply with words like "resigned" (DeLay) and "currently in jail" (that crook in CA).
Posted by: BlueSeattle on April 22, 2006 03:17 PMWith republicans it is the "seriousness of charge" that matters, it needs to be mentioned as often as possible until something juicier comes along.
With democrats they are innocent until all appeals are exhausted, as such not worth reporting till the time it is old news and no longer worth reporting.
Posted by: JCM on April 22, 2006 03:36 PMHere's a guy who is taking responsibility...something the many, many republicans have refused to do.
You should be calling on the republicans to follow Mollohan's lead....
Posted by: Tom Molto on April 22, 2006 04:09 PMYou lemmings and apologists better check your facts - one minute the man can't pay his bills because he's in debt over $100,000 and the next his PROFIT is close to 7000% and he's a multi-millionaire... sorta reminds us of Hillary and her cattle futures... "Move along, there's nothing to see here."
Right.
Posted by: Cheryl on April 22, 2006 04:20 PMNice job of projection there molto-meal. Democrats taking responsibility - now there's two words you don't hear very often in the same sentence!
The dip was right about Duke Cunningham (crook on CA) - he's a scumbag and got what he deserved. He/she/it was also right about the contrast between this molton guy and Tom Delay (but he/she/it had it twisted up stupid-style). Delay resigned his leadership position - something that no democrap has the guts, class, or character to do in similar circumstances. molton dodged and weaved and avoided doing the right thing for months. Other than that, both should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Difference between Republicans and Democraps is that we don't tolerate crooks & degenerates like you do. We oust them. We prosecute them. And we imprison them.
You guys invite them on the lecture circuit and pay them big bucks to leer at the girls at commencement ceremonies....
Posted by: alphabet soup on April 22, 2006 06:29 PMSo when a Demoncrat steps down, it is somehow ok, and somehow excused! But when a Republican steps down it is an absolute scandal!
So How's about ole McDermott, when he has been found to have absolutely broken the law, in a massive law suit where even the supreme court found him breaking the law.........does he step down....Nooooooooooooooooooo
He's a Demoncrat
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Let me laugh some more!
Posted by: gs on April 22, 2006 08:12 PMBesides the left wing media, which has a vast majority of ink has already convicted him and thanks to their subjective and distorted style of injecting opinions instead of facts and not doing justice to putting out a decent product - but instead they give us subtle versions of the Pravda.
Posted by: KS on April 22, 2006 10:17 PMI agree with James Vesely, that "This is a political campaign down to its roots. It might be less about oil and more about power, but the two commodities have always had much in common."
The stakes are high for policies protecting the environment, drilling, dealing with global warming and establishing a strong renewable energy policy. Sen. Maria Cantwell has demonstrated strong leadership in support of environmental protection and renewable energy policies. Sen. Cantwell courageously stood up to Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, against Arctic drilling.
Big Oil and big money are pushing to drill in the Arctic again and they are pouring money into Republican candidate Mike McGavick's campaign. Alaska Rep. Don Young, Sen. Stevens and Vice President Cheney have come to town here within days of each other to campaign for him. At a major fundraiser in Anchorage for him, energy industry officials attended who support opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.
Let's not let Big Oil run our state. Re-elect Sen. Cantwell.
— Peggy Willis, Seattle
Makes for good sensationalism, but not for rationality. Vote McGavick.
Posted by: Jeff B. on April 23, 2006 09:18 AMThere are charges against Mollohan so he stepped down from his position temporarily to defend himself against them. In the words of KS: Mollhan "has not been convicted yet, so whats your point?"
