How much attention will Seattle's liberal media give to the latest House ethics scandal?

The Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer have published dozens of news articles on the topic of "DeLay" and "ethics" since 2005. The Times published four unsigned editorials and a number of signed columns on with the keywords "DeLay" and "ethics" this year and last. The P-I published seven unsigned editorials on that subject during the same period. I salute our local dailies for shining a spotlight on the ethical lapses of elected officials.

I can't help but wonder how much attention either paper will give this story: "Senior Democrat Exits House Ethics Panel"

Rep. Mollohan, Top Democrat on House Ethics Committee, Leaving Panel to Defend Financial Conduct ... The Wall Street Journal reported two weeks ago that Mollohan steered millions of dollars in appropriations to nonprofit groups in his district with much of the money going to organizations run by people who contribute to the lawmaker's campaigns.

1. I am totally, utterly SHOCKED the Times and P.I. didn't report on this one. I guess maybe they couldn't double blind check their sources? Or maybe it's just a nasty right-wing conspiracy. There just must be some reason...

2. Maybe it is not really a newsworthy item? After all what did they say about our favorite local Rep. that was also removed from the ethics committee? As I remember not much.
You see liberal lying, cheating and lawbreaking is really not news...it is a way of life!

NONE! "Move along, there's nothing to see here."

Whatever else could you possibly expect?

4. Here's why no one reported on it ... THERE IS NO SCANDAL. There was the appearance of a conflict, so the democrat temorarily stepped down. Key words: "appearance of" and "temporarily."

Contrasts quite sharply with words like "resigned" (DeLay) and "currently in jail" (that crook in CA).

5. Remember the rules of scandal:

With republicans it is the "seriousness of charge" that matters, it needs to be mentioned as often as possible until something juicier comes along.

With democrats they are innocent until all appeals are exhausted, as such not worth reporting till the time it is old news and no longer worth reporting.

6. As usual, Stefan gets it all backwards.

Here's a guy who is taking responsibility...something the many, many republicans have refused to do.

You should be calling on the republicans to follow Mollohan's lead....

7. Appearance of scandal?

You lemmings and apologists better check your facts - one minute the man can't pay his bills because he's in debt over $100,000 and the next his PROFIT is close to 7000% and he's a multi-millionaire... sorta reminds us of Hillary and her cattle futures... "Move along, there's nothing to see here."

Right.

8. And enlighten us... why is it as recently as Thursday evening he claimed he would NOT step down and here we are on saturday he has??

9. Once again molto-meal reaches for the golden ring of credibility, only to fall on his face.

Nice job of projection there molto-meal. Democrats taking responsibility - now there's two words you don't hear very often in the same sentence!

The dip was right about Duke Cunningham (crook on CA) - he's a scumbag and got what he deserved. He/she/it was also right about the contrast between this molton guy and Tom Delay (but he/she/it had it twisted up stupid-style). Delay resigned his leadership position - something that no democrap has the guts, class, or character to do in similar circumstances. molton dodged and weaved and avoided doing the right thing for months. Other than that, both should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Difference between Republicans and Democraps is that we don't tolerate crooks & degenerates like you do. We oust them. We prosecute them. And we imprison them.

You guys invite them on the lecture circuit and pay them big bucks to leer at the girls at commencement ceremonies....

10. wow. Sounds like a certain KC councilperson that is no longer on council and hasn't been for at least a few years.

11. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

So when a Demoncrat steps down, it is somehow ok, and somehow excused! But when a Republican steps down it is an absolute scandal!

So How's about ole McDermott, when he has been found to have absolutely broken the law, in a massive law suit where even the supreme court found him breaking the law.........does he step down....Nooooooooooooooooooo

He's a Demoncrat

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Let me laugh some more!

12. Mollahan actually stole a page from the Republicans playbook by voluntarily stepping down, so he can defend himself. For example, Tom Delay, Bob Livingston and Trent Lott are Repubs who voluntarily stepped down before having to. Just because one has a D in front of their name doesn't give them license to refuse to do the right thing - like Sen. Chappaquiddick Kennedy, who should have stepped down back then and Harry Reid should also step down for accepting kickbacks for Abramoff & his associates, which he will eventually get charged with. They are in the majority and in cases like this - Democrat politicians typically show less integrity than the Republicans. Once again, Molto, you missed several chapters.

13. How much ink does the Right Wing Media give to the DeLay scandals?

Posted by: Raw Data on April 22, 2006 09:36 PM
14. The right wing media does not have much ink to give. BTW - Delay has not been convicted yet, so whats your point ? With that said, in the end Delay did the right thing by not running for a new term.

Besides the left wing media, which has a vast majority of ink has already convicted him and thanks to their subjective and distorted style of injecting opinions instead of facts and not doing justice to putting out a decent product - but instead they give us subtle versions of the Pravda.

15. Also McDimmwit's jihadii handmaiden. Has that been in the news? Holding . . . breath . . .argh . . . blue . . . aack!

16. To answer your question Stefan; None. The double standard is in place as always. Do as they say, not as they do. Cynthia McKinney was a victim of race, but Michael Steele deserves to be punished because he's black and didn't play the victim card, etc., etc. It's always OK, as long as one spouts the ideas of the left.

17. KS,
You poor baby.

18. Not sure about that, but Peeattle Times sure likes Cantvotewell. They should have to declare the value for this campaign contribution/posted letter to the editor:

I agree with James Vesely, that "This is a political campaign down to its roots. It might be less about oil and more about power, but the two commodities have always had much in common."

The stakes are high for policies protecting the environment, drilling, dealing with global warming and establishing a strong renewable energy policy. Sen. Maria Cantwell has demonstrated strong leadership in support of environmental protection and renewable energy policies. Sen. Cantwell courageously stood up to Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, against Arctic drilling.

Big Oil and big money are pushing to drill in the Arctic again and they are pouring money into Republican candidate Mike McGavick's campaign. Alaska Rep. Don Young, Sen. Stevens and Vice President Cheney have come to town here within days of each other to campaign for him. At a major fundraiser in Anchorage for him, energy industry officials attended who support opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.

Let's not let Big Oil run our state. Re-elect Sen. Cantwell.

— Peggy Willis, Seattle

19. I'm all for Big Oil. Yet another reason to vote McGavick. Leftists think that Oil is the boogeyman. It's gonna coat us all in thick crude so we all die. And all the guns are going to go off by themsleves and shoot us. And if not those two, then we will all die from Global Warming and the earth flooding.

Makes for good sensationalism, but not for rationality. Vote McGavick.

20. I'm all for big oil, too. The liberals are against drilling, against new refineries, against nuclear power, against wind turbines (ala the Kennedy's) against, against, against. What are they for? We need to do something, and in case the liberals think some new source of energy for cars will fit the bill, they need to consider that the oil companies will probably be in control of that, too, since they have the distributorships! Then they can be against that, too! Will the liberals come out "for" anything at all, except, of course, killing babies?

21. katomar, I think you're selling the democraps short - they also have a penchant for spending other people's money!

22. Raw Data - you poor victim - you fit right in the the Democrat party. They have handouts for ya and want to keep you on the plantation.

23. I have to say I love all of the cute little puns and namecalling displayed here. With material like this it's an absolute crime you conservatives hold zero sway in the great state of Washington.

There are charges against Mollohan so he stepped down from his position temporarily to defend himself against them. In the words of KS: Mollhan "has not been convicted yet, so whats your point?"

Posted by: Warren on April 24, 2006 02:23 PM
24. Yes Warren, we conservatives are just filled with hate and venom.

Pfffftt..

Have you been over to DU or Kos lately?
