Book Sale Tomorrow And Sunday

The Friends of the Seattle Public Library are having their spring book sale this weekend.  I'll be there, probably both days, and you should be, too, if you like book bargains.   Here are the essentials:

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library holds two major book sales each year.  At each sale, over 200,000 books and other items are offered to the general public, . . .
, , ,
Most books cost $1.00, . . .
. . .
Book Sale hours are Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, April 23, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
. . .
The Book Sale is held in Building #30 at Warren G. Magnuson Park, Seattle.

Magnuson Park is located at 7400 Sand Point Way N.E., just northeast of the University of Washington.

I usually get there before the doors open to get a better selection, and to avoid some of the crowds.

To give you an idea of the bargains available, here's what I bought last spring.

(Do these book sales support a good cause?  At one time, I wouldn't even have thought to ask that question.  But our libraries, especially those in cities like Seattle, have become so strange that the question must be asked.  Tentatively, I would say that the public libraries, even in Seattle, are still a fine cause, net — but I am not sure that's true for the main downtown library.)

2. What? You don't like "cutting edge" architecture?

3. This a GREAT event… last year I was able to buy 50 copies of “It Takes a Village” and 30 copies of “Heather Has Two Mommies” all for $5 bucks. They looked great in my FIREPLACE this winter!!!

4. I'll pass - I have more meaningful things that need to get done and usually don't support Seattle causes.

5. I went this morning and picked up an eclectic bunch of stuff, including a history of the Republican party and Up from Liberalism by William F. Buckley.

They had zillions of copies of books by Michael Moore and Al Franken. I guess they aren't as popular to check out now that the election is over.
